Sorry if there is a thread on this but I could not find one.
I know lacrosse goalie is a lot about being mentally prepared. When I have my friends shoot the ball on me I am never prepared for it and usally don't save it. During games I save the shots. Is there any way I can get my mental aspect of my game up? Any advise would be appreciated.

Sounds like you're relaxed with friends, but pumped during your games. What's wrong with that?

The problem is that I want to make it feel like a game so I can become better. I play lacrosse with my friends only a couple times so when I do, I want to try to play hard.

You probably have more adrenaline pumping during games.
When you practice, get pumped up! Make yourself feel like it's a big game. Keep your mind saying, "This is it. If i don't save this shot, i'm going to be kicked out of the house, with no place to live." Make yourself believe that the practice is more than that.

I will probably try that. Games are more intense for me so I have more adrenaline.

this is corny but.......
tell yourself, its the mll championship, you're greg cattrano, and you're up against baltimore's attack line!
if that doesnt get the adrenaline rushing, nothin will

Or maybe you just dont want to look bad in front of your friends so you try to play good and then stink, thats what happend to me when I used to play hockey. What I did to stay pumped is to hit the post with my stick before every shot.

The thing is that I have no posts to hit. I have not made a lacrosse net yet so I just draw the net on the wall with some chalk. But that is a good thing to do in hockey. I do it all to time when I play hockey.

goalie mentailty...hahahaha, goalies dont have brains, they dont think, THEY"RE INSANE!!!!having shots whipped at them on average 80 MPH(high school), id say when your with your friends just try to relax if your gettin nervous about looking bad, if thats not the case then jus imagine the game scenario in your head try to picture someone else

what's there to think about? Ball in net bad, ball in stick good. that's 90% of a keeper's job.
