couldnt really think of any appropriate title...

im 16 years old and had my first summer job this year n im gonna continue to work during the year. this summmer i put a good 2,500 in the bank which im proud i havent spent it all... But now that school is staring up i need some new supplies, clothes and not to mention the new lines of lacrosse/ snowboarding stuff is coming out soon :clap: , but i really dont feel like spending all my money on clothes and supplies.. And they dont mind buying me all these things because i help out alot with no allowance and not to brag but we are pretty well off.. but i cant help but to feel guilty asking for money even though they dont mind giving it to me.. i feel like now that i have a job i should be responible enough for this stuff but i dont know if im just over analyzing....

so opinions from older/parents would be awesome, but anyone feel free to give me ur opinion.. as long as its intelegent

If they're willing to give you money for clothes I would take it and keep the money in the bank because you will most likely need it later on for something more important.

I worked all summer and my parents matched whatever i put in the bank so I ended up putting half in the long term savings account and the rest in short term.

I say be grateful to your parents and family and think of what they're getting you as the essentials, like clothes. Dude, you're only 16, give yourself a break, without even a solid job not to mention. You shouldn't have to provide everything for yourself yet, you deserve to get new lax stuff if you got $2,500 on your own.

Just think of that money to go for a college education or a new car. Your parents will be so proud and understanding that they wouldn't mind. You need that money for something more important. The best thing to do is save it and put it bond account or something. I hope this makes sense.

When I started working I spent my money on stuff that I wanted. Even though my parents wanted to, I never had them pay for anything else after that.

ya dude, take what u can get now...u siad ur "well off" so i dunno what college will be/is like for u but i know msot people go pretty broke durin college & w/ even little stuff like gas as insane as it is right now, when they're willing to give u money take it....the only downside is if they give u money for no reason, when u find something like say a new head or board that uw ant more then likely they wont offer to pay for it as quickly

yea i made close to $2000 this summer on the weekends just cutting grass, i have to use the majorityy of it for car insurance and gas, they are letting me use a car. but yea i HATE spending money on anyhting cause i know how hard i workded for it, like if i needed a new head or somethin, id be searching for weeks on ebay till i found one for cheap. my parents buy my clothes as long as their cheap, so i do a lot of shoppng at TJ MAxx, Kohls, etc.., if I want sometin nice from AE or AF or hollister or soemthin, then i gotta buy it. I also have to pay anything over $20 for my shoes. I have to pay for my own haircuts to. weird??

keep the money in the bank and save it for college. trust me, either way, they're gonna spend the money on you. whether it's for clothes now, or college in a couple years. if they're willing to give it to you, they're gonna be spendin it sooner or later.

Personally, I'd invest it in a mutual fund. That way it'll increase 3-5% every year.
