My 10 year-old son played in his second lax game today, and got the game ball. For his first game last week, we taped him, as he didn't believe it when we I told him that he just didn't look prepared when waiting for a possible shot (he's a goalie). He didn't do that great his first game, but when he saw the tape, he realized he wasn't bent at the knees enough and his hands were too close to his body. What an improvement a week makes, and what a difference getting a game ball makes for boosting his confidence. His clears are fantastic as he can hit a breaking middie, or an attackman waiting at midfield. But now he looks so much better in the cage. He just needs to get his stick more vertical at setup and step into the ball at the shot. I know the camera will come in handy. If you have never seen yourself on tape playing, I highly recommend you find someone to tape you (or your kid).

WEll done for your son. He is a quick leaner. It takes some people forever to learn a simple thing the coach tells them to do such as bending their knees and using 2 hands, i guess watching a video tape does work great.

Are you serious? He's ten? And already is analyzing his game tape? Jesus, I have a hard enough time remembering which foot to step with, maybe he could help me?

Haha, for my game today I wanted my sister to tape me so I could see what I need to work on, but I forgot to plug in the battery, so it didn't work. :banghead: :dummy:

Whichever side the ball is going towards, that's the foot you step with.

Awesome. That's kind of cool to hear about, who knows, maybe the next tillman or cattrano. Just please, please do not be one of those psycho dads who forces their kids to play all the time, practice all the time just so they can get better. I have seen a few in my 16 years of existence and almost every time the outcome is the same; the kid usually ends up dropping the sport due to sickness of it by the time they reach high school/college or they end up hating the sport and not enjoy it at all. That's great you're using the tape and encouraging him to become better, just don't cross the line between you're kid having fun, enjoying the game because it's lacrosse and all I want is my kid to get better to be the best so he/she needs to practice all the time and do everything whether they hate it or not to become the best. I'm not saying you are, you seem to be doing a great job, just don't become one. I have just seen to many take the fun out of the game and make the kid's life abesolutely miserable because the parents forgot that the kid is supposed to have fun.
But my main point is congratulations! I do love working with the little ones that actually comprehend what they are doing wrong. Then if they go the extra step to fix it, it is just an amazing feeling. Props to your son, you must be proud (I would if I had a kid like that)

This is a really nice Thread. Congratulations on your son being a player. I wish him nothing but the best luck.

I fully agree that there's nothing better. My 8yr old is in his second year and has played 2 house league and 2 competitive box seasons and is now playing in his first field season. It's incredible what a difference there is in such a short time from a kid never touched a lacrosse stick before until now!
