A1 brings the ball into the attack area and is slashed by B1, flag down. A1 shoots, and the ball hits the post, then hits:
(1) goalkeeper B2, who is in the crease.
(2) goalkeeper B2, who is outside the crease.
(3) B1, who is in the crease.
(4) B1, who is outside the crease.
(5) A1, who is outside the crease.
The ball deflects off the specified player and then goes directly into the goal. What is your ruling in each case?

Excellent Quiz LaxRef! I never realized there was a difference between NFHS & NCAA. Which are you grading on? ...the new 2006 NCAA rule?

Well, here we have at least 4 out of 5, and I'll let the angle for the trick question out of the bag: which rule set are you referring to, NCAA or NFHS? If you answer that, I can tell you if you have 5/5 or not.

I was referring to NCAA rules

Ah! Well, then you have 5/5!
The key here is that in situation (3) (ball deflects of a player in the crease other than the GK and then goes into the goal), the NCAA rules say that it's a goal, but the NFHS rules say it's not a goal. I have no idea why there's a difference.
I have a colleague who blew this call in an NFHS playoff game, or so he says. I wasn't aware of the difference until he told me about it. They had the ball deflect off a defensive player in the crease and into the goal; they allowed the goal, which would have been correct in an NCAA game but not in an NFHS game.

I'm grading on the 2005 NCAA rule, since I'm not privy to the precise wording in the 2006 rules. This may well change for 2006.
