i've actaully never been injured..... never sprained/fractured/tore anything. i don't even get shin splits! but i'm really scared of tearing my ACL, beucas that's what 2 of my friends did during the season... and its a painful process

ACL, its something in your knee. my friend ksenia tore it during a game, and she had to get a bunch of MRI's, and they cut her knee open, and put these stiches in, and she's been wearing a brace for about a year.... it kills your season basically.

Longest
07-12-2003, 10:26 PM
It can kill more than that too, couple seasons sometimes. Some people are never the same after an ACL injury, depending on the severity.

Dan

yeah you stay away from the game for a while after knee injurie of any kind

you proabably partialy tore them cause i think after 3 times of tearing your acl you would be done.
i recently tore the mcl a ligament of much less importantce but still have to miss a lot of time, basically killed my summer.
it is even worse when you go back and they look at your mri and say you might have torn some cartalidge and maybe even partialy the acl. I hate knees

not always...some people are done after 2 times...some 4 times...but usually yes after 2-3 times you cannot play anymore...some cannot walk anymore. it,s pretty hard to predict

Funny thing about an ACL if your legs are strong enough you really don;t need it. I know quite a few football players(skill position players too) who tore their ACL and it hardly effects their play or their life. They just wear one of those neoprine sleeves. No other forms of stablization needed. No metal or plastic hinges and bars nothing.

bigOHlax
07-18-2003, 11:04 PM
that is intersting i never knew that
the way people talk about how important it is they make is seam like the whole world matters on how you acl is

johnnyicesae
07-18-2003, 11:50 PM
well to probably 80-90% percent of the population that is what holds your knee together and that is what gives you knee any form of stability. It's those select few athletes with the muscles built up around the knee that can withstand this

bigOHlax
07-19-2003, 12:58 AM
wish i was one of those athletes that could do that

being a defenseman, and in mens lax,you know you need a lot of gear. But my worst fear is a crazy outside shot going straight for...well I think you know where this is going.anyway defensemen don`t wear as much as golies, but shots still come blazin` through some times, and if it is a bad shot, the defender who take the shot there, has a lot of courage.:cry

WarriorLax22
07-20-2003, 07:34 PM
well, i'm afraid of getting a shot ripped right at my heart. 'cause you can die like those goalies did. i probably won't 'cause i play attack and stuff, so i really don't have to worry that much. :) (all these smilies and no simple happy face...)

i injured my back lst year running cross country. it destroyed my entire running season, and pretty much destroyed my lax season. i would be playing at times when it hurt so bad i couldnt walk so i had to keep jogging. and, my coach had to pull me from a few games. i finally got smart and took some time off (this whole time, i had been going to physical therapy) and went to the chiropractor. it's finally fixed but now, i stretch more than anyone i know. im just really scared that it will come back again and will destroy my season again.

I honestly have absolutely no idea what i did to it, never went to a doctor for it. i messed it up in freshman year kept playing on it then this year...my sophmore year i totalled it. I can actually do pretty well with it although i feel it bigtime after any kind of game. street or league.

the pex muscle is in your chest correct. but there are ligaments and tendons connecting that muscle to the infraspinatus muscle ( A muscle that assists the lifting of the arm while turning the arm outward) basicly the shoulder muscle that allows rotataion.

I used to fear the ankle or knee injuries, mostly because I had my right ankle reconstructed and both of my knees scoped. But after having the surgeries they are better than when I was a kid (I'm 33 now).

Now I fear shoulder and head injuries.

I recently injured my left shoulder and it is amazing how much you actually depend on your shoulder for movement and strength. I am hoping after surgery on this one it ends up like my other injuries.

As for head injuries...concussions really aren't cool at any age, but it's a real challenge to go to work with that kind of head-ache!

The Pectoralis Major is the large muscle that on your breast. There are two. Are you sure its not your lats? If you have really large lats they extend and make your chest look broader when you lift your arms up. It seems like it would make more sense if your lats were torn a tiny bit.

But anyways, back on topic, I always feared of getting my achilles tendon hurt really badly, it just seems like it would be the most painful thing, and you wouldnt be able to walk. Also, I am scared of damaging my family jewels. Hernias also blow.

I am scared about the knees. My fathet injured his 20+ years ago and he just had surgery again (fourth time)on the same bad knee. He had to replace the cartilidge under his kneecap and I remember him in pain for a month and a half.

I have broken 6 bones left wrist 2 times right wrist left ankle. left elbox and my strernum( bone in center of chest) They all hurt alot buy right now I am sitting here with a broken wrist and I think it hurts the most out of all of them because I broke both bones in the wrist!

Im definetely most afraid or knee injuries. just last season after the first 2 weeks or so of practice i got a stress fracture and i pulled my MCL!! I was out for about 7 weeks and most of my season went down the drain.

now i really watch out for stuff like that and i train hard to prevent them...i get the feeling that the injuries were a result not being in to good of shape.

I saw a guy at a game tear his and it rolled up in the back of his leg so there was this funky looking bump on his calf area, was nasty.
ANyways, I fearhand breaks, I broke something inside my hand and my small finger healed odd so my right handled cradling is quite unusual looking, I fear breaking a more useful finger though, That and maybe my upper thigh-bone, can't imagine walking to well if that thing comes popping out of my leg.

i never had ne real bad injuries either until i was moved up to varsity. i pulled a hami, strained my lower back, and both knees started giving mr trouble. out of all of these i fear knee the most.

lacrossetitute

my worst injury ever was tearing a muscle in the right side of my lower back. The sad thing was i wasn't even playing a sport when i tore it. I had a really bad cold and was in bed at a funny angle and coughed really hard. tore it. I couldn't walk for a while without going through excruciating pain. Surprised i could even go to school. Hurt to walk for about a month, then about two weeks after it healed i hurt it again playing volleyball in gym class. damn that sucked.

My most recent injury was doing something to my achilles. It started off as a sprained ancle, but eventualy by playing it i managed to screw up my achilles. It was weird, i could walk on it fine, but i couldn't run. I saw the doctor and he thought it was something on my inner foot, where there are no ligaments or anything that i could possibly injure :wtf He told me to take 4 advil before every practice and game and play on it. Still hurt with all that advil, but i still played. I decided not to do any sports over the summer and now its all better.

I probably fear the most either redoing my achilles, or blowing out my knee, or taking a really bad shot to the sternum.
