If you could design a lacrosse stadium, for a college or an MLL squad (or even a NCAA final venue), how would you make it?
I'm tired of lacrosse teams playing in aluminum benches that pass off as "stadiums." I want a small capacity venue that still can have all the aspects of a professional quality stadium. This (http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pictures/europe/slovenia/murska_sobota.jpg) is a stadium in Slovenia that only seats 5,000, but wraps around the field, actually has individual seats, and has concession stands and other amenities with it that you expect to find in a pro stadium.
My lacrosse stadium, for the Los Angeles MLL team, would seat 5,000, along the coast, maybe in Newport Beach or something.
There would be three sides to it, with the open endline showing an awesome view of the ocean. The seats would be 8 feet from the outline, and only 2 feet off the ground, because hardcore lacrosse fans don't worry about getting hit.
I'll reluctantly put luxury boxes, because in this day in age, sports teams need em. I'll just stick about a dozen on top of the sideline grandstands. But I think a "fan zone" should be set aside on the endzone grandstand, where the hardcore fans can yell, scream, drink, do whatever, like the Dawg Pound in Cleveland.
The grandstands will be covered by a canopy-roof, like in the high school stadiums you find in Seattle, to protect from the elements and keep crowd noise in.
I'd put a jumbotron on at least two corners, probably on the open end. There would be ribbon boards around the top of the roofs with out of town scores and other stats like that.
I don't want lacrosse turning into minor league baseball where half the stadium is empty because kids are running around playing all sorts of crap. But I would surround the stadium would be a "lacrosse zone" sort of thing with stuff for kids to do before and after the game. But maybe even better, would be a small lacrosse training complex, consisting of practice fields that youths can use.
And under the seats would be a pub, just for my sake.
That's all I have from now, but maybe with your guys "perfect stadiums", I can add to it.

Sounds like a pretty good "perfect stadium" you got there, to me.

if i could make a stadium i would make it monumental but in a legitament place for lacrosse not somewhere on the west coast i would make it in the new england or midwest regions and it would seat about 200,000 to 300,000 people in it and it would have a retractable roof on it to play indoor and outdoor, it would also have gurf (grassy turf) so it wont get ruined in the rain. it would look sumthing like this but with a retractible roof and much larger

Sounds swell, won't be much different from the Mutant League.

So basically, you're proposing Maracana but with a roof and working bathrooms.

5,000 isn't enough. Attendance is raising, and the average for MLL games was around 4,000, so in a couple years your 5,000 capacity stadiums wouldn't be sufficient.
I loved that idea with the stadium being on the ocean, and one endline being open so you could see it...but that's not likely.
I'd say a stadium that wraps around the entire field, seats around 20,000. No roof of course...I love being in the fresh air watching a good football or lacrosse game. The front row seats would have to be like, five feet up from the ground...don't want your field to feel like a coliseum.

No, I think 5,000 is good. You gotta create some demand for tickets and have a consistantly lively atmosphere. Even though MLL average attendance is 4,000, I actually think it'll be hard for the league to push past 5,000. I say it'll take at least 4 years.
And domed roofs suck ***. But the type of roof I suggested was the one that only covers the seats and not the playing field. It gives the stadium an arena atmosphere without blocking off nature. Like the one shown here.

Would the Home Depot Center fit your definition? :D

now i'm no engineer or anything like that, but could you really make a stadium that holds 200-300 thousand AND a retractable roof? can you even make a stadium that big with just a normal roof, lets take it further can you even make a stadium that big. i'm sure you could but it would be terrible for about 2/3s of the people, they would so far away from the action that they couldn't see anything
and temp i think you should make it 10,000, 5,000 would be a nice up close and personal setting but i think you'd need 10,000 just to get by and it wouldnt be too big

Lets just ignore it, can't do much with the "Eastern Establishment." And 300,000 stadiums can work, you just can't put in any seats and make it all terracing, making it almost certain that there will be a human avalanche afer every goal.
Neyland Stadium started off as a 5,000 seater. Now, it's a 105,000 seater. No, I'd actually like to start mine off at 5,000.
http://www.charlestonbattery.com/stadium_overview.asp
the Charleston Battery soccer team built a 5,000 seater, and they've made a profit most of the years they've been there. I'm sure at the current state of MLL and current budgets, a team can make profits with only 5,000 seats as long as they control the stadium.

i still think my idea of it being in the ocean is the best
when nclax35 said a stadium that seats 200,000-300,000 and a retractable roof it sounded cool you said a perfect stadium not a realistic one

Ok. Lacrosse can never fit 200,000-300,000 people in our lifetime.
And that's not in any form realistic. NFL stadiums hold 80,000 at best. NCAA hold 105,000 at best (packed in like sardines). 200,000 to 300,000 is not realistic.

You guys can throw around crazy ideas, but I'll say that I don't like the idea of 300,000 seats, whether plausible or not.
The stadium in the ocean, though, even if kinda out there, sounds really cool. I think it can work, but realistically, it can't be too far from the coast, and there needs to be several wide bridges (you don't want stampedes).

I' d would do something similar to Ravens stadium. I 'd keep it the same size. I'd have much better concession stands, more comfortable seats, and turf fields. I'd put resturants, lacrosse stores and stands, and fields with cages surrounding the field so you could stay their the whole day, not just leave after the game.

Ok, new rule, no more ideas for NCAA Lacrosse Championship venues.

I like the overseas Football Clubs with the Clubhouse right next to the fields, but for a larger venue, I would like to have a football stadium with areas on the sideslines to warm up goalies like bullpins for pitchers. That would be awesome. Also having a cooler area for the bench, like elevated seating so you could see the field better or something like that

it couldn't be too big. like already stated, it needs a lively atmosphere. WIth lacrosse growing at the rate it currently is, I'd say about 6000 seats. And luxury boxes, except they would just be one end of the stadium, top to bottom. The other end of the stadium would be open, like a big U. outside the open end of the U would be about 10 lacrosse fields, side by side, so it's like it's lacrosse as far as you can see. Each major company would have a large booth underneath the stands, and we'd bring in independent caterers, and work a deal with them to keep the prices down (no more $3.50 water bottles for me). at the open end of the u would be just a large pit, slightly sloped towards the field, where people could just walk in and watch the game (for hardcore fans too, really close to the action).

i think 5,000 is a good amout of seats, and i also like the gurf idea, but its gotta be a dome and a jumbo tron is good also, seets about 5 feet off the ground, with induval seats not benches, and some of the best conssions stands, with a team store or 2, and in Central New York. Its a great location becuse i am from this area. lol  . and its open all year round to play in.(when there are no games going on of corse.) but a fea to use when open for use.

I think something like Central Coast Stadium in Gosford, Australia.
Seats 20,000 all in nice new individual seats, no benches. With one end open looking right out over the pacific ocean, i reckon it would be perfect.

Your point? That was a waste of a post.
Anyways, my idea is similar to freestylewalkin's idea. There would be a massive barge with a lax field on it. Around it would be barges with bleachers. However, one end would be open for people to come up in boats.

i seem to remember another thred like this. anyways, in the bleachers, nice plush seats that recline and you can put your feet up kinda like a lazy boy. nice cup holders. maybe some shag carpeting. BIG tvs in lots of places so if you ahve a bad seat you can still see the game. a wicked nice grass field. THE ENTIRE STADIUM CAN BE MISTED WHEN IT GETS HOT. that would be sweet. sweet locker rooms. also carpeted in shag, with some wicked comfy uber awesome chairs, hot tubs, massage chairs. nice big walking areas for food and vendors and such. a decent amount of seats. retractable dome incase the weather sucks. im sure ill come up with more crazy ideas later.
