Are the ALL games going to be on Fox Sportsnet TV again this year?
Are Victoria favourites again or do WA have a chance of winning it this year?
I think the ALL is great there were some good competitive games last year, it should be even better this year with the build up to World Games 2006.

I haven't heard for sure if the games will be televised on Fox but i have heard rumors that they will not be shown.
I think Vic do have the tag of favorites, but i think WA will have an improved team with guys returning from OS and some very good young players comming through the ranks. As far as SA go they do have some class players and i think they will be able to keep up with WA and Vic. So all indicators say it will be a tight competition and should make for some good games.

Vic, with their depth, are still the favourite, but I would say that both WA and SA will be fielding better teams than last year. I know the SA defence is looking better than it did last year. That and with Pete Inge in the face-off we will have more possession or at least first use of the ball.

The ALL unfortunatley wont be on TV this year. But hopefully they still film all of it. At least so UK can add to his collection!
WA gets the welcome addition of Kim Delfs fresh out of 4 years at Adelphi.
SA gets Peter Inge, the nations most recognised player, Aaron Lawman from Vic team 2004 and hoepfully some more motivated guys.
Vic team is stronger by adding N Stiglich the 6'4" highest scorer in the VLA this season. Mike McInerney(AA at Adelphi). Jim Buchanan(Australian rep 2002), Sam Marquard(aus rep 2002), Rhiain Barr(all world 2003) and Keith Nyberg(AA at Limestone). Should be fun.

Yeah the should film the games and then sell the DVD's over ebay like they did last season. As far as the other team's go well i don't know, Are you allowed to give us the SA team list Bluedevil or is it being held top-secret like last season.

Gus campbell who commentated some games last year told me theres going to be no coverage because the ALL blew the deal. If you are planning on going to the Victorian games come earlier to watch the Victorian Under 15 sides play curtain raiser games. Metro will dominate but the rest will be close competions

Pete W. is a good player and a great kid but i would have thought there were bigger, stronger, better poles than him in SA.

Bigger, stronger...Yes
Faster, more agile and able to keep up with the speed of the WA young guns... Not many jump to mind. (Langstrethe and Andrew Stone didn't try out. )
He would have made the SA U/19 team except for one reason. The coaching staff (myself included) were not told he wanted to play. Having played with him during the ASPAC tryouts (They needed a team to play against) I would have picked him even though he couldn't make training due to work.

I think peter Inge will make a missive difference across the midfeild, and it should be a good battle in the f/o between him and Robbie Stark.

I think all the state's will stay pretty level as they are now over the next few years. I think all the juniors have been pretty even over the last few years (with the exception of the 03 under15's), so i don't think any state will "dominate" the ALL any time soon.

Looking at that SA team and the following Aus Squad members are missing:
Brett Howe
James Inge
Cameron Adams
Wes Green
Trent Machner
Stephen Mortimer
Obviously a few of those will be playing college ball in the US, but given they are required to be at trials directly following the ALL final I thought Brownie might retain them in the SA squad in case they make the finals?
What is the deal with ALL team numbers this year? I heard they were thinking of bringing down from 23 so you couldn't rotate players out.

Brett Howe and James Inge are no longer in the Aus squad and i also herad that Trent Machner isn't in it anymore because he is no longer at Adelphi and has to get his grades up to get back in. And the other 3 guys are all based at colleges in the US.

Yeah Machner is back at Catonsville, but that shouldn't mean he's out of the squad. Other things may complicate his participation
I hadn't heard that Howe was out. thats a shame for SA, fair shot on him.

As far as numbers go, I think it's still 23 (though we only picked 20, with an alternate long, short and goalie)
As for retaining any of those guys in the SA squad just to play in the final. Can't be done. Everyone who plays in the final must have played at least 1 qualifying game. Given that most of these guys are flying in just for the camp, they wouldn't be able to play any other games.
Howe and Inge have both pulled out. I'm not sure why, but I think becoming fathers recently may have changed their priorities in life.

Yeah they sould have an All-Aussie team for 15's but aparentley the Australia Lacrosse people think that it is not good to have it at 15's level because it makes the kids who didn't make it feel "left out". Hell we didn't even have on at the 17's national this year, stupid new format.

they have the lacrosse academy thing where they send you a letter. i think thats the top 40 players. They should just pick maybe two all star teams and make it clear that just because your in that team doesn't mean your in the australian team and vice versa. That way no-one would feel left out.

bluedevil49, so what happened?
In the first game we got out to a really slow start, 1-4 at one stage. Other than that it was a pretty good game. Both teams had good opportunities and the both teams pretty much went goal for goal. Unfortunately for us, WA went ahead with 44 seconds to go.
Game 2 was a different story. We got beaten on transition from O to D. If you ever see footage of this game, you'll know what I mean.

There has been very little reporting of the games. i.e scorers etc.
Who do you think stood out for both teams?
After these games how do you assess WA and SA versus a stong Vic team on paper?
bluedevil49
10-25-2005, 08:51 PM
This is what I thought of both teams;
Goals - All 4 goal keepers did a great job. Brown in particular seems to have adapted to the turf as he got many saves this year that he did miss last year. Williams was suprisingly good for a first timer. Vickery and Sargent gave good performances, but had a lot of quality shots put up against them
Defence - WA's team defence was pretty good. They slide well and had great communication. I don't think that they had too many takeaways (checks, not food) but just applied pressure to force errors. SA's defence was very quiet, unlike our trainings. Little communication leads to a less than expected outcome.
Face off- WA lacks a National level face off player. SA had Inge and he did very well.
Offence - WA had great ball movement and few unforced errors. Their outside shooting is great. On man up it was hard to cover the outside as everyone has a strong outside shot. SA's offence played well in game one but did not get shots on the cage when the opportunites developed in game 2. I think that we need more outside shooters to free up our inside game.

Wins Losses Points Goals For Goals Against Percentage
WA 2 2 12 42 49 85.71
SA 0 2 0 21 29 72.41
VIC 2 0 12 28 13 215.38
So basically SA have to beat Victoria twice convincingly in the next two matches to have a chance on making the finals. And considering that Vic easily beat WA who beat SA, then it should end up being a VIC vs WA final.......if that makes sence

A few comments on the WA vs Vic games from the weekend.
Game 1
Victoria D looked fantastic and WA attack looked scrappy at times (Surprising as BlueDevil had commented on how well WA moved the ball last weekend). Kim Delfs did not play for WA but was replaced by Kim Gillespie.
Faceoff was clearly dominated by Reggie and Robbie but did not equate to goals.
I thought Jimmy Buchanan played well for Vic.
Game 2
WA got out to a 3-1 lead late in the 1st quarter....then a few things changed!
Brad Ross and Dan Pus were on fire, Vic dominated the face off, and Marquard and Shepherd are possibly the best d-men going round. Joffa held his own in goal (although WA shot poorly on the turf!). WA started to throw the ball away under pressure, but just got starved of possession from the face off.
It became very clear that Vic is a team that has been playing together for over a year and will be tough to beat. Ingey will be crucial to SA's chances and Peter Brown will have to think on his feet if they are going to win.
Brad Ross and Dan Pus will have gone a long way to securing a spot in the Aussie team with their performances....slick!

10-30-2005, 09:13 PM
Thanks Griffo,
Dan Pus tore up the ALL in 2004 so its good to see he's back at it. Having him and Brad makes it tough to match the Vics because you can sub their pace out for either the big attack line (Stiglich boys) our the cutting and fed from x game with Jimmy Buchanan and Josh Ardossi.
Good to see Jeff went well, how did the young fella from WA go in the net? (and why arent you in the team?) also how do you see scoot and waz on form? (its fairly clear that I have a vested interest).
mrg16
10-30-2005, 09:26 PM
Oh I forgot to say Jimmy Buchanan should make it back into the squad after seeing him play this weekend.
I have been carrying injuries all year and decided it was time to let them heal after the Aus squad adventure ended.
Wazza played really well Saturday night, and Scoot was ok but wasn't challenged enough to make an impression - one of the downfalls of having a dominant defense!
Wazza was under too much pressure in yesterdays game - the Vics really did carve them up. Sam Williams played about the last 12 minutes but only faced maybe 5 shots for 1 goal. He has a bright future after beating Sparksy for the U19 All Star spot.
One thing I will say about Jeff - he doesn't carry the ball in the open field as confidently as someone like Scoot or Waz, but his hands and feet were looking fast.
Keep at it mate, I still think you are in there with a chance!

Im not overly fussed mate, I know there are no super standouts right now so im just going to go in there as fit as i can be right now (bad ankle and knee!) and have a good crack and have some fun and hopefully learn my weaknesses (im sure they will all be tested!)
By the way why did WA not play Delfs, Toy and Rainey? they have to be among if not the best players in WA??
mrg16

Dave Toy is not in the country. Originally he was to be back early for T Roosts wedding, but I believe he will now only be back for the Aus Trials. Not sure if that makes him ineligible for the final if WA makes it?
Rainey was added to the list I think in the hope he would play. From my understanding this will not happen.
As for Kim Delfs, I think that is best left up to the imagination :agree: ....let the rumour mill begin!

Correct mrg16. Every player in the final has to have played at least one of the minor games. Also answers my own question of where is Travis.

i was at both games. WA looked promising at times but as many have you said they got booted out of the middle from the lack of top quality guys that face off. also we were slow of the wing with the VIC LSM's picking up numurous ground balls with little or no pressure. WA just lacked the composure and movement i feel that the Victorians had all over the park. but the games were very enjoying to watch. WA n VIC should meet again int he final unless something horribly goes wrong when VIC play SA.

WOW!
I was standing behind the Vic bench when Reggie came off. He looked winded but was also holding the back of his neck. I don't remember him being hit in the preceding bit of play????
And Jesse looked like had either disclocated his shoulder or done his collar bone so that is a shock as well!
I really hope they are both doing ok.

Nicholas was caught between two WA players just after a face off and one of the sticks was high across his back. As you described, he was rubbing the back of his neck when he came off and wasn't looking the best. Some of the clashes were aggressive and hard but that is what lacrosse is all about at this level. I had asked David Joy if there were any injuries to his players after the game on Sunday and he stated that everyone was OK. Hope he's not a medico in real life!!

I hope they both recover well. But I think Reggie should take the week off. (every little bit helps)
As for the above 2 post ^^, did he let him go in front to deliberately hit him, or was he just beat and then hit out of frustration? Either way, it isn't very sporting. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for big hits, but of the legal kind.

Probably have to wait and see the video replay and determine then what really happened. The clash would have been deemed legal by the refs as no penalties were incurred. Agree Reggie should have the weekend off and recover for the final and Australian Team training afterwards.

Ok everyone tonight Vic won 9-6 against SA. My first thoughts one the game are: Peter Inge didn't have good night he one all the face-off's but the rest of his game seemed to be lacking, Hell he looked like he wasn't even trying. Arron Sargent had a good game in the cage for SA stopping a lot of shot's. Anthonay Felepa also played pretty well putting away a few realy good goal's, SA made so brilliant offensive plays at the beggining of the second half but just couldn't finish. Craig Shikker is just a freakin moron, I mean who the hell punches a guy in the stomach after he scores a goal for no reason. Also there were a few illegal sticks Both James Buchanan and Justin Casagrande served 3 min penalties for this.
So if you can make scense of my post-match ranting you may just have a vauge idea of what happened.

^ yeh that was probably the most exciting part of the game. whilst clearing the ball scooter threw it up the field and got hit by 3 Sa players straight after he threw it and the the vics were on a fast break and got a goal. After that one of the Sa player punched the vic player who got the goal (Rob starr?). Scooter had to be taken off the field and was replaced by jeff joy.
South Australia started off weak with the Vic defence being far to strong. The halftime score was 5-1. The 3rd quarter was the best for South Australia and they came back to 6-4 and looked like they had a chance of winning. in the last quarter the vics came back though and won 9-6. The best player for SA was probably the goalie or Anthony Feleppa. For the Vics it could of been a couple of players as i don't think anyone really stood out. The vic defence was really strong and probably won them the game.

FYI: in the curtain-raisers first round, Metro smashed Warriors and Kings beat Southern Cross by three. Last night Warriors just got home by a goal over southern and metro were fast finishers against Kings to win the shield :(
Anyway....VIC won again in the ALL leaving SA without a win. Vic were leading the entire game and looked as if they hardly even broke a sweat. Joffy in goals had a great game however and troubled the SA offence who took many a crap and wastefull crank from outside.
Overall not as good entertainment for the crowd as the first VIC v SA but it should lead to a good finals series.

Yeah Victoria made and Inge-less SA look pretty sluggish in all area's of the park. They shut out Aaron Lawman and made Perham and Mangan ineffective. SA's d held up well considering the amount of ball that Vic had. However I would have changed goalies at half time if i were Coach. Vickery was not on song ( though he made one or two nice saves).
For the vics (who were missing 4 of their top 10 players) I thought Tokarua, Desmond, N Stiglich and T Fry were among the best. SA, Connoley did alot of work but needs a left hand, Feleppa had a good crack.

Vic, with their depth, are still the favourite, but I would say that both WA and SA will be fielding better teams than last year. I know the SA defence is looking better than it did last year. That and with Pete Inge in the face-off we will have more possession or at least first use of the ball.
pete inge got raped in the face and after the first game he was so hurt he sat out. :)

Darren Nicholas?
Scott Garnsworthy?
Peter Inge?
And has there been any talk of inclusions into the Aussie squad before next weeks trials?
cannon
11-06-2005, 10:10 PM
Inge was hobbling pretty badly while sitting out the Saturday game.
Nicholas looked to be moving freely and my guess is that he'll play the final in the place of Brammal who seemed to hurt himself on Sat night.
Scooter should be ok as he merely had concussion (although i hear he was twitching!).
Ryan Garnsworthy sat out the second game with a corky and will be right to play.

havent heard anything about inclusions though as ive noted elsewhere it think that
Buchanan
Lawman
W Brown
will be invited to try out

There's always plenty of talk. Time will only confirm the true ones. From what I've heard and seen these guys or on the list
W. Brown
J. Buchanan
C. Schicker
Perham and Lawman are good enough, but I don't think they want to.
As for injuries,
Reggie only had bruised ribs so will be playing on Friday
Scott Garnsworthy ? - didn't get the chance to speak to him but he seemed okay on Saturday
Peter Inge - Still not sure what he did, but judging by the amount of swelling around his knee, thigh area, i doubt he will play on Friday.

No free to air TV was negotiated this year as SBS had a change of heart and couldn't commit to this year. ESPN Asia may run a highlights package but other than that, you will need to order a copy of the 2005 Games Package to see all the action. Lacrosse Australia web site has links to the ALL.

Because that is all that were interested this year and only after the series had finished was this negotiated. It is going to Singapore for Broadcasting throughout Asia as CNBC have a Sports show on saturday afternoons and an American ex-lacrosse player works for CNBC Singapore who was interested in taking the programme. The ALL programme was rushed through production with only a couple of days to put it all together before they wanted the tape.
