Northwestern would be great. The Dyches really got hosed with the new stadium title, but that's neither here nor there. It's a great stadium, in a great location for prosperity. Evanston is an awesome place, and there is great lacrosse all around that area. It would definitely thrive there...Now if we could just overcome Title IX and get a Northwestern MENS NCAA program...(too bad it won't happen...)

Maybe you can bag yourself a free ticket or replica jersey if you asked nicely...or figure out where the hell they're playing next year.

thatd be awesome... i live like 20 minutes from benedictine!
fenwicklax89
10-17-2005, 05:21 PM
^^ i doubt they would play at benedictine, although that new stadium is pretty nice. the new fire stadium is lookin good right now, but its still under construction. most likely theyll play at northwestern. its somewhat close to the city, is in the heart of illinois lax, and has somewhat of a lax reputation (although its girls lax)

I heard that there's a state law that prevents pro sports teams from playing at Northwestern. I don't know if that's true and it sounds pretty stupid, but that could be what's keeping the franchise from announcing their site. The Fire Stadium will open in June, and although it'll be a nice facility, from what all you guys have said, the location just blows, since it's south of the Northern lacrosse base.
fenwicklax89
10-17-2005, 09:32 PM
is the law just for northwestern? because that could also keep it out of benedictine. ya the location of the fire stadium does blow. i think its in tinley park or palos heights, not too great of a town. its pretty much all hispanic (obviously why they put a soccer stadium there) and wont draw fans from that area. mainly the upper to middle class suberbs from around the city will be the main fan base. im not complaining though. the new stadium there looks really nice

you are an idiot, if it is in tinley or palos it would bring in fan's seeing as their is a grown lacrosse comunitly their with the 3 main high schools having a district lacrosse team, which just happend to beat you last season, so make sure you know what your talking about befor you speek.

So the MLL franchise has considered Bridgeview. And Peter Wilt is the president of the Chicago Fire (yea, he hangs out on the message board) so it's a credible source.

I take her with me to games, she loves it. We're getting tickets for the Portland Jax for Jan. 21st when Colorado's in town.

Location may be a problem, but most Americans commute long distances for sporting events. Right now, I think the Fire stadium in Bridgeview would be absolute class for this franchise. Here are construction pics (scheduled to open June).

Title IX is what keeps Northwestern (#1 women's NCAA lax) from getting a MENS program. That was what I was talking about previously.
Try READING next time...
You really think Northwestern would have a men's lacrosse team without Title IX?
Highly unlikely!
What incentive exists for a school to add lacrosse as a varsity sport, particularly in the midwest? No close opponents, travel by plane, expensive equipment. Not going to happen. A school like Northwestern would stay club in men's AND women's lacrosse without Title IX.
The flip side of the argument is that Title IX is driving the expansion of lacrosse (women's only) to non-traditional regions that wouldn't get it otherwise. With varsity programs brings equipment stores, coaches and clinics that benefit boys as well as girls programs at younger levels.
What did Title IX do for lacrosse in Chicago? It might be frustrating that only women's lacrosse is varsity at NU, but the program's success got the Trib's attention (as did the flip-flop "scandal"). There are more people talking about lacrosse in the midwest--even people who don't yet know which end of a stick is up--than there would have been otherwise.
Frustrated that there's no men's team at Northwestern. Stop blaming Title IX and blame the real enemy--football. Cutting scholarships from 85 to 50 (50 is the size of an NFL team, not to mention walkons) would fund at least three men's teams.
It would benefit Northwestern's football program as well, as the Big 10 behemoths wouldn't be able to hoard talent. They'd make way more money. Don't even talk about revenue--no one will boycott football games becuse the third string d-back in the nickel package happens to be a walkon.

Why is the team the machine? Chicago Fire makes lots of sense, but I haven't heard of any special machine that came from Chicago. If there is no history behind it, then it is a very stupid name.

It made a lot of sense to these guys (http://chicago.fire.mlsnet.com/MLS/chf/) too.
Apparently, it seems like "Machine" is supposed to stand for the politics and power of Chicago, though I'm not sure how that's supposed to be a good thing and how that's a great name for a sports team.
The season is 6 months away, I think it's getting time where they MUST announce the venue NOW, so that ticket sales aren't hampered. I'm guessing that all these "insider info" about Benedictine means that the two sides have had preliminary agreements but can't nail down a few little issues regarding rent.

its not really "insider" info, Iniside lacrosse stated that benedictine was goin to be their venue and from the options that they had it is the most logical. im not sure if its 100% set in stone yet but benedictine seems like the smartest choice for them.
I won't be quite as harsh on BamaBoy. It's like you may not know George Wallace was (which I assume BamaBoy would know - now if he doesn't know that being from Alabama, then....) I'm a native Chicagoan, as I'm assuming you are (fenwick) so it is quite obvious to us. Not excusing ignorance. Try to read more, BamaBoy.
Chicago Fire was also a pro football team in Chicago - the defunct world football league.

seeing as their MLL games, they will hopefully be on ESPN2 for the mll game of the week
but i think they have other things to worry about before they take care of this, even though media exposure is what keeps the league floating
