View Full Version : Pocket Placement?

I play attack, and recently I strung up my matrix with hard mesh and broke the pocket in middle/high on the head. It throws great but it really blows for one handed cradling. I'm considering restringing the head because of this. My question is this: where do you other attackmen place your pockets? Middle or high for a quick release or low for a strong one handed cradle?

i myself am a middie and attack. Most attackers have their pockets low near the throat of the stick. An example is Mark Millon...he has his pocket low. In my cyber i have the pocket somewhere low/middle. Same with my radius. Lower pockets are meant for great one handed cradling and they shoot pretty good aswell. Hope that helped

i'm a middie/attack and my pocket on the matrix is middle to high and i love it...you couldn't jar the ball out with a bulldozer

Yeah, this is posted in the stick tech forum as well. I posted it here first but wasn't getting any replies for about a day, so I figured I probably should have shoved it in stick tech in the first place, but then this thread got replies too. My mistake for the lack of patience, but atleast I got enough replies to come to a decision.

uh, i'm pretty sure that's illegal.

anyway, i play A/M like the rest of these guys. i like my pocket in the middle 'cause it has just enough whip. if my pocket is too low, i don't do quick sticks very well. if it's too high, the ball goes straight down. the middle will force you to have some serious ball control and give you with the advantages of time-and-room shooting as well as quick sticks. at least that's what i think.

yeh i like my pocket in the middle to, so when i cradle it slips down a little to near the throat and it is high enough to get a good quick stick from it

dude, thats all personal preference really, well most people set a high pocket for a quick release but u dont need to, it just helps it all depends on how u throw really.

high pockets are a must, if you are a good stringer, or know what u are doing you can get a high pocket that does move down on one handed cradles well, my pockets in my pics for example, work 100% fine on one handers, the ball makes my pocket move low, and it all happens because of the way i string the bottom of the head and pound my mesh, although all these are soft mesh, duramesh can attain this effect easily too, but it is much harder to do with the monster mesh and hard mesh.....

ok i know this thread is ancient, but i didnt want to make a new one. but ok i just got my razer strung w/ mid monster mesh and the pocket is low. i have 2 straight shooters and 1 U shooter, and it passes and cradles great, just like my previous sticks that had middle-high pockets. but when i went out back to shoot on goal, every single shot went flying over the goal, sidearm and overhand (which contradicts to what that laxnation pocket placement tutorial said about low pockets being great for hard overhand shots) is that normal for low pockets or is it my shooting strings or something else.

Right there:
Why? Because that's where the max pocket depth on a Torque occurs, also, I like a lowish pocket

I like my pockets in the middle... I string my own stuff, and I have a habbit to just string all my heads the same like that

I'll second this. His pockets are a great compromise - ball sits high most of the time, but falls low nicely when you're doing the one-handed vertical stuff.

Only catch is that his sticks whip too much for my shooting style, and I haven't been able to find a good balance between his stringing style and mine yet.

i usually try to get my pocket lowish middlish so its fine when i go one handed and when the pockets higher i recon u could probley get a little more power out of it

I play X and my pocket is up as high as possable for the quick stick and also a nice out side shot.

I found quick sticks to be a LOT harder with high pockets. My pockets are high but the ball always gets stuck toward the top.

Well thats what works for me.... i generaly for most quicksticks.. tend to not bring the ball to the pocket but rather hit it off of my shooting strings.. and with just little quick inside shots, or Dink shots i have a tendincy to bring it off my shoulder and you have to kinda force the ball out... just habbit i guess

My pocket is mainly right at the throat. There is some depth towards the middle as well, and when I bring it to a horizontal cradle, that's where the ball is. It doesn't stay at the throat. However, vertical cradling is effortless. Actually, I dont even really have to cradle much at all, the ball just stays there.

And I don't know what people are talking about, that lower pockets don't have a quick release. I've played with a low pocket for about a year now, and I've always had a quick release.
People have to keep in mind that stringing can help give you a boost with some skills, but alot of it is the player himself.

I prefer sack pockets (low)..because you get a quick release, and great one handed cradling..and If you string it right you can get tons of hold in it.

i like my pockets in the middle because i can get a good wind up and still cradle single handedly fairly easily
