Should be a great tournament with some of the best players

Hopefully they tier the countries though. I would imagine most of these countries will just use their field teams to play in the box, and I think it will be an eye opener for them. You can't run away in the box, and I think it wouldn't be fair to send some teams like South Korea, Japan, Sweden and so on, into the box with Canada. For those countries it should be about learning and having fun, and I can't see being physically abused and having huge scores against being very fun. But put Canada, States, and Iroquois in one Div. and it should be pretty good. But that's almost the Heritage Cup isn't it? Maybe I don't really see the point in the tourney. I can see the field championships being almost entertaining, but i don't think enough countries have grasped lacrosse enough to really warrant a World tourney in the box. And even though Halifax is a great sports city, lacrosse is non-existant there. Hope they come out just to come out. I do hope everything works out for all involved, but I think a true indoor world championships is still 25 to 30 years away. In all honesty, a better tourney would probably be a pool of Ontario, BC, New York, Iroquois, New England (including Maryland), and maybe Alberta. And have all the ther countries play in a B pool till one or 2 are ready.

You have some really good points and there is talk about 2 tiers. I'm not sure if the US even has a strong box goalie? It's about learning and the international teams will quickly realize how physical box is. A few years back a field player from the UK came out to a box practise...only came once....said it was suicide on two feet. It will take a number of years for countries outside the three you mentioned to play at their level of box. FYI - Greater Halifax has 3000 playing on teams at every level up to senior. Nova Scotia sent a Junior team in August to the Founders Cup and gave the BC provincial champions a run...score 11-8. Next year they will make a good run at a medal. It will be fun in Halifax and a great show.

Saw some of the "junior" games there this summer, and the midget championships too. And I had to actively work hard to find out about them. Very, very little lacrosse coverage in that city. FYI, I lived there for 2 years and go back quite often, and am familiar with the lacrosse scene. The "junior" team they sent played there *** off against a horrible BC junior B team. Keep in mind, while a huge step by Nova Scotia standards, the talented kids in BC go Intermediate A then to Junior A. Junior B in BC isn't like Ontario, so a bit of a tough comparison since they didn't play any decently talented players in the BC game. Most Inter A squads would have killed them. And while I hope every province canmake a run at a title someday, from what i saw, Nova Scotia won't be doing it with help from their Midget system. But I understand what you are saying, it is slowly growing there. Getting some serious clubs up in the Valley, Pictou, Cape Breton, Amherst and maybe Bedford area would help grow a bit more too. Need more than one city. Or do like hockey and create a junior league with all Atlantic provinces. But the main point, I agree that the city is one of the best, if not the best sports city in the country, but lacrosse is a big risk there. You're not talking Victoria here. Lacrosse will be a tough sell in a place that has very little knowledge or care about it.

I think australia wil have a decent enough team to play a in a world indoor championship, and I don;t think alberta is ready for a tournament like that give it 5 years and we'll be there with ontario and b.c at that age group.

Well, many europeans play box lacrosse much like Canadian box lacrosse.. there is a tournament in the prague and the netherlands every year.. and they are pretty tough..

Watch out for the Czechs as a dark-horse in next year's tourney. They learn new sports very quickly. (If memory serves me right, with ball hockey they were hopelessly outclassed first trip, and made a finals appearance next trip to world championships.)
Also, unlike other nations - box is the primary form played in the Czech republic. While they may not have a huge talent pool to draw from, they will have a box team, rather than a field team packed into a box.
I won't go too far out onto a limb, but I will predict they get their first win at the next WILCs.

Im not really surprised to hear that. Canada and Czech are primarily hockey countries, therefore have tons of rinks. And in the summer, they're not gonna be used for anything, so it makes sense to play box lacorosse. Thats why box is bigger in Canda. In the old days hockey players would play lax in the rinks to keep in shape for the next hockey season.

Really good comments about the Czech box lacrosse program. They are financially challenged to send a team but lets hope they work things out to get to Halifax in 07. I hear they are tough and learning quickly and in a few years...you never know.

I played against the Czech National team in 2003. Their box game was pretty good. It was on par with their field abilities of 2002. By the time 2007 comes around I think they'll be pretty good. Still won't challenge the big 3 (US, CAN, IRQ), but depending on what other teams play, they might do pretty well.
Australia on the other hand, will have a much better team than we had in 2003.

Have heard from well connected CLA members that Australia will be more competitive in box in 07. Only one country is named at playing up with the big three...Canada # 1, Iroquois Nation #2or 3.....United States #2 or 3 ...and Australia.
"The inaugural World Indoor Lacrosse Championships were held in Hamilton, Kitchener, Mississauga, and Oshawa, Ontario, Canada in May, 2003. National teams from Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, the Iroquois Nation, Scotland, and the United States participated. Canada defeated the Iroquois Nation in the final by a score of 21-4."

That's a very bold claim to make considering that they only two US born goalies spotted in the NLL that were even qualified to be there were Eric Miller and Dwight Maetche.
There might be others out there, but until they make a team and prove themselves, you can't really claim that there are lots who are NLL calibre, let alone standouts.
Good luck, though. May you make a team, get minutes in a real game, and prove me wrong.
Forgive me if I'm skeptical - I play in a couple high level rec leagues (high level defined as a number of ex pros, and plenty of ex Junior A and Senior A players) The shooters in those leagues are easily similar calibre to those in any local US league. I've played at this level long enough, and seen enough pro lacrosse to know that the top goalies in a high-level local league might find room in a 30 team NLL, but probably not a 12 team NLL.

JAPAN COMMITS TO THE 2007
WORLD INDOOR LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP
Halifax, Nova Scotia - The World Indoor Lacrosse Championship announced today that Japan is the first country to officially register to compete in the tournament. The World Championship will take place in May 2007 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Indoor lacrosse is relatively new to Japan. We are trying our best, aiming at being number one in the competition, says Tsuyoshi Abe, President of Japan Box Lacrosse Association.
We are thrilled that Japan is committed to coming to Halifax. We welcome their participation, says Mike LaLeune, Event Manager of the tournament. Lacrosse is played around the world by more than 750,000 players and it has become one of the fastest growing sports in the world, in part, because of its exciting action and its fast pace.
Japan is expected to be one of eight countries who will compete for the world championship. Other countries expected to compete are Canada, USA, Iroquois Nationals, Australia, Czech Republic and Scotland.
The Halifax Championship is the International Lacrosse Federation's pinnacle event in World Men's Indoor Lacrosse and will feature the top players in the world. All games will take place May14 - 20, 2007 at the Halifax Metro Centre.

Excitement continues to build as the 2007 ILF World Indoor Lacrosse Championship announces that six teams from Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Iroquois Nationals, Scotland, and USA, have will come to Halifax for the tournament to be held in May 2007. To complete the eight nation line up, there are six additional nations vying for the final two spots

Haven't heard anything about a Welsh team playing but I think it would be great if a team could attend. The more teams the better. Not sure of the calibre of box lacrosse outside North America but In believe the rules allow a team member to participate if they have a parent or grand parent from the participating country. Allows a number of good players from North America to participate.
LAX_07BOXWORLDS
08-07-2006, 06:37 PM
Great spectator sport and easy for kids to learn. Lacrosse is growing much faster than baseball/softball in North America and the Maritimes is experiencing similar growth. The worlds will open up a whole new crop of players to the sport in the Maritimes. Players are expected to double the next few years in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Qualified coaching and referees will be a challenge but the provincial associations will help move things out. Once you play lacrosse it is addicting.

Well the USA did defeat Canada in the 2002 Heritage Cup, so it's possible for them to do it again.
Yup.
I watched that abortion of a game. It was a very shameful moment in Canadian lacrosse history.
What went wrong?
-Bartley and Mouridian selected a team loaded with ~9 attackers, all offensive superstars. These attackers should have been able to score bucketloads of goals, but it seemed there were too many finishers, not enough playmakers, not enough muckers to fight for loose balls and open up space. The 5-on-5 attack was directionless and sloppy.
-Sloppy attack? Cue Team USA's transition game. Bad passes, bad shots, and failure to recover looseballs led to a lightning quick 8 goal run by Team USA. Most of these goals were on unbalanced 2-on1, 3-on-2 fast break plays. Team Canada's goaltending was hung out to dry. That said, they could have been sharper themselves.
-There were only four real defensemen dressed, with several offensive-minded players dressed as "midfielders" (whatever the frig that's supposed to mean in box lacrosse). Later in the game when Canada wasn't being slaughtered in a run-and-gun transition game, the five-on-five defense got tired quickly and couldn't perform as well as needed.
-The final score, 21-16 USA, really favoured Team Canada. At least 6 of the goals were garbage time, close to the end of the game, after Team USA had yanked their starting goalie and replaced him with Erik "Sieve" Miller.

I'm actually glad that APTN will be covering. Hopefully they travel with their own commentators. I'm sick of networks using their hockey guys. Shanahan always adds to a broadcast but 99 percent of the rest probably haven't seen a game that they weren't broadcasting.
It also eliminates the need to pay for poorly broadcast net streams.

That's the link to the World Indoor Schedule for the B2 Network.
http://www.worldindoorlacrosse.com/
That's the site for the tournament.
I don't see anywhere on major networks where they will be carrying anything, other than the Iroquois games, (which would be APTN) and the finals (ditto). I'm wondering if the ILF sold the rights to B2? But why would the Iroquois would have the right to broadcast their games on their network? And then the final rounds to boot? Possibly the native Canadians own the rights to games played by their teams, I'm not sure. I googled the heck out of it and only found APTN and B2. I can't even find anything on Rogers Sportsnet which broadcast yesturdays NLL Final.
I'm thinking B2 bought the exclusive rights but could not keep the Native Canadians out of the picture. Which is their right as far as I'm concerned, they did invent the game.

If you purchase that pass can you watch the game at any time or is it only live. No chance I waste 60 bucks for games that I wouldnt be able to watch.

i'm so confused on times for these things, there's one time on the b2 network site and another on the world indoor site. Any idea what time (eastern us) the US/Aussie game is?
must say, very disappointed with the low quality on the broadcast. Broadcasters sound like they're straight out of college, very amateur sounding. The feed randomly chopped out in a couple of spots. I mean granted there is only so much to do with an online feed but, i'm semi disappointed. Although the States looked good against the Aussies at the end. Picked it up to win 19-9. Kinda frustrating seeing nothing but penalties though.

Has anyone noticed what is being used for the floor surface for the tournament? It is the surface that the Ottawa Rebels used when they were a NLL team.

The final games was AMAZING. I dont think either teams desereved to win or loose that game they both played great. John Grant had alot of nice goals but his behind the back shot was the best in my opinion.
The game was such a fast pace, and all players were really into it. Even had a bit of a scuffle going on in the first half. That game in my opinion was better then some NLL games that we see.
Team Canada was missing i think two big name big names though.
Congrats to Team Canada on the gold medal win, and also congrats to Iroquois on a great game that could of went either way.

i have to say canada is the best lax nation in the world not only do they own box but they field an almost evely matched field team to the US even though we have way more people to draw from, all the D1 colleges, and all the teams in the MLL. probly because playing box made you canadians such sick ball caryiers and goal scores.

it helps in field when you can out smart the other team, something the canadians did very well against the US.
Loads of games up on e-lacrosse, from the groups to the finals.
