Yeah it's fun, just do what you'd normally do surfing. Or if you haven't surfed watch a video of someone surfing and do what they do.

I got a G2 classic pintail (its only on gearguys.com). I cruise around, bomb hills, and get towed by bikes. Getting towed by bikes is crazy becuase you can slingshot the corners.

I just started riding recently too but I ride every day and have gotten pretty good pretty fast. I mean for longboarding there isn't much to show your good other than just being comfortable cruising around but I really don't like riding shortboards.

Here's some pretty sweet boards in your price range....

06-27-2006, 11:05 AM
When you go to a store and you're buying a complete ask if you can go outside and ride it around in the parking lot. Most places are pretty cool about it and that's the best way to see if you really like the board. Also, some stores will put together a demo board that the people that work there will ride around on and then will sell at a discounted price. That's how I bought my board and I ended up getting a really nice board for a pretty good price.

Palmettolax45
06-27-2006, 01:42 PM
sweet thanks for the great tips when i go to the shop ill definitly ask about the demo that sounds like it will be a great deal.

Arbor boards are nice...they ride real clean but they're kinda expensive or atleast they can be. They have a real nice look to them though....pure style points.

Well, I first got into longboarding for fun a couple years ago, around here, I mainly just cruise, and it's a laid back way to get somewhere. Here are my rides.

Here's my custom made little one that I use the most. This one is just the most practical to get around on and I can go pretty fast on it. I made it with my dad.

http://imagesocket.com/thumbs/IMG_41212c8.JPG (http://imagesocket.com/view/IMG_41212c8.JPG)

She's got some Independent trucks, Bones red's bearings, and 76mm Sector ninewheels.

http://imagesocket.com/thumbs/IMG_4122fa3.JPG (http://imagesocket.com/view/IMG_4122fa3.JPG)

Here's my brothers ride, though I use it more than he does.

http://imagesocket.com/thumbs/IMG_41236be.JPG (http://imagesocket.com/view/IMG_41236be.JPG)

She's a Sector nine Hydra with Gullwing sidewinder II trucks, standard S9 bearings, and 69mm wheels. This sucker turns like a dream, you can cut some serious corners with this board.

http://imagesocket.com/thumbs/IMG_41251fd.JPG (http://imagesocket.com/view/IMG_41251fd.JPG)

Here's my cruiser. I take this baby when I just want to cruise and chill somewhere. Not as practical as the red board, but she turns nice and shes real smooth.

http://imagesocket.com/thumbs/IMG_41266ea.JPG (http://imagesocket.com/view/IMG_41266ea.JPG)

And finally, here's the second board I made with my dad. This sucker has three sets of trucks with smaller wheels in the middle, we designed her to be a tandom board (for two people), and the boards still a work in progress.

http://imagesocket.com/thumbs/IMG_41314a9.JPG (http://imagesocket.com/view/IMG_41314a9.JPG)

Finally, for size comparison:

In attempt to refrain from starting a new thread, has anyone heard of the skate company "chicago" and are they any good? I have a skateboard that I got a long time ago as a present and never really got into skateboarding. Mine isnt a long board. I was just wondering if anyone knew.

i like my arbor alot... basically as much as my friends sector nine. the deck seems way stiffer then my friends sector 9 however, but i like the way my arbor looks without the black griptape.

i have the blunt personally.

heres some pros/cons on the blunt specifically

Pros
Wide, flat deck enables comfortable cross stepping and speed control
Beautiful Hawaiian Koa wood with crystal blue wheels adds to the rich surf style
Randal 180 trucks offer a unique reverse pivot turning system - no wheel bite on deep turns
Cons
The board is less flexible than most longboards - this is both a positive and a negative
The clear grip adds to the board's beauty, but doesn't grip as well as regular griptape
The bearings are simple ABEC 3s. This is alight, but it you want quality, you will want to upgrade

plus arbor boards just plain look sweet

Flexdex pro40

Randall rII trucks, abec biltins, abec 11 flashbacks. Soooooo nice.

Edittt:

Frank, go to www.silverfishlongboarding.com for all your needs. The guys there are way chill, post any questions you have in the "resources Q&A" forum. They wont rag on you about searching, and the majority of them really know what they're talking about. I've been boarding for a few months and almost got an arbor, but decided on a flexxier, more snowboardesque board.

If you're willing to dish out the cash and want a nasty board, check out flexdex. I have a pro40.

Using the coupon code "brodeal" you can take a third off.

Wow, that whole thing sounds like a bunch of advertising stuff...sad. Goodluck though.
