he is very mediocre....personally I dont believe he has any business there....but actually as I was criticizing him, he did finally show some old 'cuse tactics and had a 6 goal/or 6 point game.... Anyways, there just are much better players than him in the west I think...

You know how good Casey is in field lax? Well, forget that....he sucks in box. And by sucks I mean.....he's average. A guy like CP should be nothing less than a superstar in this league.

Hoolie...you said it 100% better than i could, he's mediocre, no better than tony henderson or bobby horsey in boxlax....i think justice was served now that eliuk made the damn game, sad it had to be cuz buffalo's goalie is hurt tho.....

i was reading this article in IL on Marty O'neil. He said that the GM's of other teams dont vote for who they think should be at the all-star games, they vote usually who they think have big names.
pathetic

Hooligan

Marty always gives you the straight story, and if he did say that, you know its true. O'Neill is the Wings GM, and I've had many conversations with him....great guy.

But it is pathetic that Dallas Eliuk (the single most legendary, and still the best, goalie ever) has to ride in on someone's injury. I mean taking nothing from Pat O'Toole, Steve Deitrich, Bob Watson or Anthony Cosmo, but combined they're no Dallas. There is no reason in my mind why the single greatest goalie in box has back into this game. Its shameful.

As for electing guys like CP, you can see blatently where this "big names" theory happens. The NLL is mostly run by people who have no idea what box lacrosse is all about. The teams out West have a lot of these problems, and the evedence will be in this year's ASG. The NLL will not be able to take the next step to the top, unless the GM's and owners are able to know their sport inside and out, like the players and coaches. Until that happens, poor decisions all around will continue to run rampid in this league.

My dream: to hear an owner outside of the 4 eastern teams list their roster, without refering to it. (maybe they can, but I don't believe it)

Casey Powell is amazing in field just cause he aint a crazy cunuk. Id like to see the NLL players go play MLL they do just as bad prob

Hooligan
02-25-2004, 01:25 PM
LZ....note Tom Marechek, and countless other NLL players who either play up to, or equal Casey's skills in the MLL and are much much better than him in boxla. You kids may not understand this, but Casey Powell, and the rest of the Powell boys aren't as good as you all seem to think. They're good, but not so superior, that we should all bow down to them.

Fat Mike....Eliuk doesn't necessarily "fall" down, but he does play a low goal. He tends to go down and play the ball up, than stay standing, and play down. Its better as an NLL goalie to assume the shot will come in low, being as how the padding you are allowed can be used to clog up shooting lanes up top, and also you can use your stick and hands much better at eye level, rather than swatting down by your chest.

You can't see any NLL games in the Northeast unless you have the "evil empire's" network YES. Fox Sports New England didn't think there was a strong enough draw to get the rights ofr the NLL this year. Also, there is no NLL team in NE, so I guess they're just targeting the audience that can actually go see a game without driving 3 hours. It's still BS, though.

Hooligan, Powell isnt as good in box just because his size and i guess he cant work in small areas. the one thing that i noticed in indoor was that they arent as good at shooting on the run and definetly arent as good at using there opposite hands. two of the most important parts of being a great outdoor lax player. i guess marachek is athletic and can expand his game, i would love to see many NLL players go to the MLL, but I dont no why they arent.

hooligan when I saw eliuk was actually falling backwards into the net so that he was laying on his back

Take another look. Half the Bayhawks team is in the NLL as well. The Wings have representatives on 4 of the 6 MLL teams, and they're not the only ones to pull from field lax. The MLL and NLL pull from the same American and Canadian players.....

I was watching the game and i gotta say Eliuk is amazing. Stopping a ton of shots from the leagues best. I would still consider MLL goalies to be better because they have a larger goal and are more athletic.

i dont see how its hard to be a goalie in the NLL

jbear
02-26-2004, 02:26 PM
That's like saying "I don't see what's so hard about being an NHL goalie."
Have you ever played box? There are many, many more shots than field, and about 80% of them are from point blank range.
Box and field goalies are like night and day in terms of technique (field goalies use their stick more which is bad in box, and box goalies use their bodies more which is bad in field), but they both require equally insane amounts of skill and nuts.

Hooligan
02-26-2004, 02:36 PM
Montclair, get a goalie stick and play both box and field goalie. I bet that both are just as hard as each other. I don't think that any goaltenders are taking on an easy task.

LaxGoalieLZ
02-26-2004, 04:35 PM
Box goalies are mostly fat and just take up the whole goal and arent that quick because its harder for them to move there fat around.

Hooligan
02-26-2004, 07:34 PM
Out of 10 starting goalies, I can think of only 1 that I would say needs to slim up....

Personally, the two goalies on the Wings that I know (Dallas Eliuk and Nick Schroeder), neither are what I would call "fat". But I'll bring that up to them after the game on Saturday...I'm sure they'll get a kick out of that. To note....Nick and Dallas are in better physical shape than most field lax teams combined.

LaxGoalieLZ

Im just saying physically it seems that mll goalies are in better shape. I was just mad at Pual_gaitRulz for ripping on casey powell. I do lik eliuk hes my fav goalie

LZ,

I think as the NLL moderator, I should fill you, and everyone else, in on why NLL fans hate Casey Powell.

Casey, Mike and Ryan Powell are all amazing lacrosse players. But, in the NLL, they definitely do not bring everything they have to the floor. There is a group of players in the NLL who do not put their best effort forth in boxla, rather save that for the MLL. It pisses ticket buying fans off to no end to know that some of the best two league players are not going to play up to potential.

One of those players is Casey Powell. Its downright shameful that he is nothing more than your average NLL player. Sure, he is the highest scoring player on his team, but lets face it....the Anaheim Storm aren't exactly an offensive powerhouse. If Casey was playing for an eastern team, or Colorado, he would be somewhere around the bottom for one of those teams.

Its about the effort a player puts forth in the NLL. We love the players who'll go into the corner to scrape out a loose ball, we love the guy who'll land a crushing blow, we love the guy who can jerk the goalie out of his shoes. Casey...is not that guy in the NLL. In the MLL, he highlights his abilities with superior trick shots, and pin point passing. All we're asking as NLL fans, is that if Casy wants to play in this league, to please do at least some of those things in the NLL.

LaxGoalieLZ

Do a lot of NLL players cross over into the MLL and are they as good.

marechek and gait, i realized marechek is very crafty

MLL and NLL players by team:

Baltimore Bayhawks: Jake Bergey, Zach Burke, Paul Cantabene, Nick Carlson, Mark Frye, Kip Fulks, Gary Gait, Jamie Hanford, Bobby Horsey, Brian Langtry, Tom Marechek, Dan Marohl, Shawn Nadelen, Gavin Prout, Brian Reese

Boston Cannons: Brian Silcott, Mike Regan

Bridgeport Barrage: Roy Colsey, Keith Cromwell, Doug Shannahan, Matt Streibel

Long Island Lizards: Jay Jalbert, Kevin Finneran (retired NLL), John Gagliardi (retired NLL)

New Jersey Pride: Pat Collins, Jessie Hubbard, Pete Jacobs, AJ Shannon, Dave Stilley, Greg Traynor (retired NLL)

Rochester Rattlers: Casey Powell, Chris Schiller, Gewas Schindler, Mike Accursi

As you can see, the MLL and NLL do drive from a lot of the same talent pool. This list also shows you that its usually the cream of the crop that plays in both leagues. This is why NLL fans continuously bring up the Casey Powell situation, as a supreme disappointment.

Smitt, rather than honor everyone's gripe that I don't like Casey Powell to the point of building my own personal shrine to him (as it seems so many have), why doesn't everyone go back through this thread and re-read my comments. I refuse to continue restating myself over and over.

Maybe with CP comin to Philly in March, I'll take time to interview him for you gentlemen. I'll let y'all know if he wants to talk...

smitt I don't hate him persay, I just hate the fact that he has been now regarded and pretty much self-declared best laxer....I SAY BS!!!!! That is all, all these teens come on the net and praise him, but you know what, he is mediocre, heis no better than anyone else...Living proof should have been served this summer when john grant jr was to once again suit up for the rattlers, unfortuneately he hurt his knee, and I will remain a baltimore fan (hey I follow thegaits and marechek...so why not...)
