He was by far the best goaltender I had ever played against and the fact was he made it look easy, from stoping the ball to getting it up the floor this guy was awsome, my condolences go out to his family and friends as well as his teamates. Lacrosse lost one of its future greats.

Man, oh man does this hit us hard, our old drinking pal on the u-19 circuit is gone.
On the very very slim positive note, he died doing what we all enjoyed and he enjoyed most.
But very sad to see a fellow player die, especially one you knew well and played against so many times!
He was gonna get that starting job too!

that is very sad to hear.....did he have any heart conditions that he knew of prior to the heart attack???
He probably had Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (genetic heart condition):
"Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic disorder that typically is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion with variable penetrance and variable expressivity. The disease has complex symptomatology and potentially devastating consequences for patients and their families. The disorder has a variable presentation and carries a high incidence of sudden death. In fact, HCM is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in both preadolescent and adolescent children....
Death often is sudden, unexpected, and typically is associated with sports or vigorous exertion. Early diagnosis is of prime importance in order to prescribe an appropriate level of safe activity. Screening of first-degree relatives is useful to identify additional affected family members prior to the onset of significant symptoms or sudden death."

As soon as I heard about the death of Rick 'Tuggy' Passfield, I was shocked. Tuggy has more or less been my goalie coach for three years until now. The reason I played A ball last year was because of what he taught me. Throughout the years of watching Rick play lacrosse, I have not heard one bad word of the man. He was known around the province for not only his great goaltending ability, but also the service he provided various different lacrosse communities around the province of ontario. He will be sorely missed by not only his friends, family, friends and teammates, but also by every lacrosse community in Ontario. I know it's going to be tough going on without him there keeping an eye on me. My condolences to his family, Sheila, Mike, and Jordan.

As for clarification on his death, after the teams second 1/4 mile run of the workout, Tuggy went down to one knee so he could take a breather. The coach came over to check on him and he said he was just getting his breath back and he would be ready to go. The coach went back to the track and talked to some of the other kids, about 30 seconds later, some one looked back over at Rick and noticed him face down. They ran over and tried to recucitate him, but it didn't work, and he ws declared dead at the hospital.
