Ok so i just got home from my schools annual retreat. Each retreat gets more intense as you go. And holy god, that was the best experiences BY FAR of my life. It was so emotional and such a bonding experience. I mean i guess it pulled me a lot closer to god that i wouldve ever been. And i found out a lot of my classmates felt the same way as i did. Such an amazing experience. Has anyone been on one? If not, i HIGHLY encourage you to attend one.

that sounds awesome. my last retreat was last year when i was preparing for confirmation and it wasn't so great. my church did 2 separate weekends and we had to choose one, and all my friends chose the 2nd one but i chose the first because the 1st 4 tournament in L.A. was the same weekend of the 2nd (shows you whats more important in my life haha) and then i got sick so i was miserable the whole time but there was one point where i got pretty emotional and felt really close to God and it was at a time in my life where i wasn't very religious

My friend just went on one to camden. For those of you who don't know, it had the highest crime rate last year or something like that. Anyway, he said it was really fun, except it seemed like all of his stories were based on picking up trash. What do you guys do at yours?

I went to a retreat in 8th grade, while it wasn't so religious it really helped me bond with people.
But now I realized that sometimes spilling your feelings for everyone that you don't really know just because you feel overwhelmed at the moment isn't always good.
But religious retreats are always a good experience.

Ok..Don't make fun of me or anything, but what exactly is a Jesuit?
And back on topic, I'm going on a "girls' retreat" this weekend with my church. It's supposed to be a surprise where we are going but we are just going to go hang out in like LA for a couple days. It would be fun, except it's only me and a few sophomores I hate.. What a waste of a long weekend. I'm going to be studying while listening to my ipod the whole time...may as well get some homework done, otherwise I would probably kill those girls..no joke they are so annoying.

the jesuits are a order of catholic priests. when you becmoe a priest or nun you choose what order you want to be in, jesuit, bendictine etc. the order were started hundreds of years ago by monks and saints.
the jesuits have started most of the catholc schools on the west coast, high school and college alike. OLP and Saints in san diego are jesuit high schools, so are USD,LMU and most of the ther private catholic colleges out here

Yea places like georgetown, bosten college, st. louis, depaul, loyola are all jesuit colleges. They are the order that really started the catholic schools. there are also many high schools run by them.

yeah our jesuit retreats are so intense. i love going on them. i recently got back from one a couple of weeks ago. they really do bring you closer to God and your classmates. its amazing how you think all your classmates would think your weird or something if you told them how you really felt during the retreat but they feel the same way.
By the way SJLax the freshmen retreat is so much fun. its probably the best one youll have. ill be helping yall out to.

Nah, I'm with you, our religion classes are terrible and the retreats are only semi-fun because you get to hang with your friends. Other than that, their terrible. I hate when people try to convert you if you don't believe in what they do.

The only person I know who was well and truly retreating was a friend who was researching a film about the Afghanistan war (with the Soviets) back in the 80's and he found himself with the wrong brigade in the wrong place at the wrong time and his tale of his 'retreat' is not life affirming or evangelical at all.
Religious 'retreats', in my experience, have a lot to do with getting kids into confined environments with minimal outside influence for the purpose of theological indoctrination.
Kind of odious, in my estimation.

I go to a Jesuit high school and all the juniors are required to go on a retreat. My older brother went to one, it was a Kairos. I went to the prayer service for when they got back, and everyone that said anything said that they loved it and it was a great experience.

I did the emmaus, and kairos retreats in highschool...best experience of my life, they make you forget everything and help you reflect on the past and work towards the future

All I know is if one of the priests wants to teach you how to pitch a tent, you should run away quickly.

Where i am from, church retreats are pathetic excuses for anything related to God. One of my buddies churches had a week long church retreat to a camp in the mountains. He came back and told be about how he went snowboarding at the mountain for a week.
The Jesuit schools own the athletic world where i live here in Oregon.
Won 6A state football championship 56-7....nuff said about jesuit huh
the jesuit school where i live won state championship in every fall sport!
public schools here hate them, at times, i do.

I think you have the wrong religion. I don't know any Catholics that feel that way. You might be thinking of Baptists, because, correct me if I am wrong, only Baptists will go to Heaven? Or to the next stage of life so to say. I am not positive, but I thought I read somewhere that Baptists believe that they are the only ones who will go to Heaven.
