Lets try something new. Assume NFHS 2005 Scenario:The game is tied at the end of regulation play. The ball was in possession of Team A when the 4th period ended. Team B was down a man with 20 seconds remaining on his penalty when the 4th period ended. What is the call? Be sure to address all aspects that an official needs to consider including any rulings and interpretations related to the situation.

Overtime is treated the same as other periods if there is a man-down situation. Since the teams were uneven in numbers, whoever has possesion at the end of the period retains it at the start of the next, given the ball in the same relative position on the field, but outside the box if it's in the attack box. So Team B, even though they were the team that was man-down, could have gotten possession starting OT if they had had the ball. If the ball was loose, there would be a faceoff with the typical man-down restrictions, i.e. an attack or d-man can be in the wing areas, but not go offside.
Regulation ends. 5-min. intermission. Coin toss to determine ends. Sudden victory. 4-min. OT period. Each team has one TO. Team A retains possession of the ball as per laxfan25 above with Team B a man down for 20 more seconds. LaxRef by this point has collected his game check and is ready to exit. He will not be conducting a stick check after the next goal nor giving a discourse on the rules unless someone asks politely.

Regulation ends. 5-min. intermission.
Are you adding the extra 3 minutes to give yourself time to recover?

Answer: (1) 2-min intermission, (2) Coin Toss to allow captain who wins toss to select the goal they wish to defend, (3) alternate possession carries over (no change), (4) No faceoff, (5) Team A starts with ball - same relative position - outside goal area, (6) 20-sec left on Team B penalty.
And as Laxfan25 notes "uneven in numbers" - don't forget the "extra-man" [4-3 Art 1 Exception (1)] interpretation for awarding possession (not facing off) v. both teams "man down" and we faceoff at the conclusion of any period.

You guys are sharp. In my games I need the extra time to get my hands warmed up to flip a coin properly.
