I have been watching lacrosse for quite some time but there is one thing I have never received a clear answer on. I was hoping someone could answer it for me. Do players in the British Columbia and Ontario major box lacrosse leagues get paid? I have heard everything from them not getting anything, to getting stipends, all the way to receiving regular game salaries. If players do get paid, what is the going wage? $50, $100, $200 Canadian per game? I have no clue. Any info that you can provide is appreciated.

i think they would get living expenses, like money for food and what not. But i have also heard that some of the pros that are playing Sr. A lacrosse are getting some type of money but im not sure exactly.

i believe 1 or 2 jr a teams pay salaries to their players, and i know some players get salaries in major(tavares in awkesasne for example) but not 100% if everyplayer gets paid.

It's officially amateur lacrosse. Players receive money for expenses (gas, food, post-game beer, etc.). There's also a number of teams that help the out-of-town players find a place to stay and a day job.

Now, there's expenses, and then there's expenses. A hack might get $40 a game, while a top-tier player might get a few hundred a game. For what I hear, ringers like Tavares for Akwesasne actually get paid quite well.

Jim Veltman got $10,000 this summer to play for the Ajax-Pickering Rock....Senior B. I hear it is starting to become common that Senior players make relatively higher salaries and some of the other teams are not liking that certain teams are willing to pay this much for player services. Especially because the amount of fans at Senior B games is pretty scarce.

This is very true, back in the early 90's we would receive approx 75$ per gameand maybe 25 per practice. The real fact is,the more in demand you are the better chance you will receive more than this.......like john!

It all depends on which team you play for and whether or not you are a big name player, especially in Sr. B and the WLA/OLA Major.

The money would be nice, but other teams would rather help players get a job than pay up for the season under the table.

I heard a similar number for JT with the Thunder (What I heard was $500 per game). Figure he'll play in about 20 regular season games, so that's the going rate for an MVP level ringer in summer ball.

(Please bear in mind that what I heard is completely unsubstantiated.....I just know a guy, who knows someone, who heard from someone else, who might have made the whole thing up......)
