View Full Version : Dumb question...

Okay, this may be a dumb question and I have no idea which board it belongs under... but here we go.

I always run with music. For some reason I've always run with my walkman and the SAME tape (a very very old mix of TLC songs - lame I know). But now my walkman has died after 10 years of life. I tried running with my discman and it skips like crazy!

So basically... does anyone know of a discman I can buy that's inexpensive but won't skip while running?? I've been looking but can't really find anything. I think there are sports ones out there though. Thanks!

get the ipod, itll save you money in the long run, replacing all those cd players etc. plus its really light and REALLY small, so its the perfect size for running, etc

My ipod battery died fast.. like in 1 hour.. lol
I love it though...
But in my opinion, i would get those small mp3 players that are like the size of thumbdrives

Philips sells a nice skip free cd player...iotsl ike 30 dollars

Mp3 players rock. They never skip and are nice a small so they work well for running.

Dont ipods batteries ware out so why would you spend 400$ onsomething you can only use for a little over a year.

you can buy a replacement and the sony cd player is the g-shock i think something like that where it's not sposed 2 skip. Or you can buy a cassete player and copy the songs from a cd onto a cassete. Or you can get an mp3 player. Or you can buy like one of those running radio things that strap to your arm.

All lithium ion batteries wear out. That includes and is not limited to: Cell phones, laptops, cameras, Gameboy SP, and pretty much any portable lithium ion device. Its not invincible people... Ni-cad rechargeable AA batteries also dont retain MAXIMUM capacity after years...

If you charge your ipod fully, and it still runs for only and hour... call Apple support. BTW dont trust the battery meter, I was on low-0 for 4 hours. :agree

awesome. i love the low but retains energy FOREVER! except it dies... i'm using a 6 1/2 year ould (goin brit) cd player. that makes it about 50 in cd player years. 10 second anti-skip, it claims. that thing is deader than a deer on drugs. i'll have to retire it soon.

You cant replace the ipod battery though you have to buy a whole new mp3 player. Dont most things allow you to buy a new battery

You can get an MP3 player for under 50 if you're thrifty (rhyme not intended, hehe), the iPod is overpriced. It won't look as cool as an iPod but I figure it can't be any worse than a tape of TLC songs, no scrubs to the izzy.

I defend the ipod is not overpriced on these grounds:

1. Ease of use interface
2. Esthetic design
3. Large holding capacity
4. Extra features, and third party peripherals.

My biggest beef with those 50$ players is that you need to buy memory sticks to increase the holding... no thanks...
Plus i like the fact that every song in my library is with me, and i can listen to whatever and whenever.
I say you get what you pay for. I think best money I've ever spent, and i will definetely never get another CD player ever again.

BTW raine: "awesome. i love the low but retains energy FOREVER! except it dies... " -- Thats a firmware issue on the actual ipod, Which they are updating because of the mini.
Check the link for more info (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19556) To give a little background info this forum has been up since the first ipod...

If you cant afford the ipod i also suggest the iRiver - ihp120.
The Rio/Nomad/Dell jukeboxes blow so much ******* its incredible.

futureshop has a cheap 99 dollar rio player that would be great fo running. I wouldn't buy a ipod because i don't have enough music and I love my MD player. I can fit 250 mds on 3 disks and that lasts me a week at least..so if ur going to go a bit higher than the cheaper ones go with the md they rock!

Well, if you rip your cds, and add to that your mp3s, you get a library like mine. You could get a mini if size is not that much an issue.

I messed around with my friends ihp-120, damn nice, definetely ipods closest competition.

Mds are only good if you dont care about how much music you are carrying with you.

enjoilax im from canada, so with the currency exchange it would mean that an Ipod mini would cost 299 here....not worth it for me. but whatever floats your boat!

yah, i don't respond cause i'm lazy. personally, i love the ipod, the whole apple, the whole Aesthetic-that's right Aesthetic, highlighting the A, design. i think they're fantastic and once i get a job, i'm not buying one. i plan on buying supercrosses and a minidisc player instead.

Dude. I really dont care. I still think MD's are worthless now.
Talk about size limitations. No thanks.

I'm not even talking ipod here.
Dell DJ, Nomad Creative Zen, iRiver iHP-120, HP's new music player (which is supposed to copy heavily off of the ipod), Aiwa's new players, and hundreds of other ones that are, Smaller, lighter, and better than any MD player.

in conclusion: Really, get whatever you want, its the information age, so you should be able to make your own decision.
But there is NO ADVANTAGE TO MD. I'd imagine its actually a financially stupid idea, to invest in a dying technology.
But i am telling you that Hard drive based players are the new way. And they are definetely going to stay. They will definetely become more and more mainstream as companys introduce new technologies that allow for them to become even cheaper.
So want to be a moron? Get an MD player and like 50 Mini discs to go with it, which will end up costing the same as ONE Hard drive based player.

And they dont even sell the ipod mini in CA so what ru talking aboot, eh? :jk

instead of insulting me, you should be open to discussion not so closed minded that all you can look at is price.

Raine. Im not even going to start with you. If i said democracy was awesome you would probably try to disagree with me.

CA? Dude, look on a map and see that CA is California. The short form for Canada is Can! It doesn't matter that the i pod mini isn't sold in Canada because thats what online shopping is for! I am open to discussion and i have done my research. For me ( who doesnt have five or 10 gigs of music) i don't need one. I even have a friend who has over 40 gigs of music and he didn't get one. For me the price is one of the most important things and the MD worked for me. I don't really care that you love ur ipod because I love my MD.

I wasn't even talking ipod. Notice i mentioned several other brands above any MD player.

But whatever. We live in free countrys, and you are entitled to do as you please no matter how stupid it may be :laugh

ah, it's all about republics anyway. jerk. enjoi, i just like the options and potential excitement of a minidisc player. it's like...

"whoa, i had no idea i still had this disc with that really cool indie-rock band as well as some other really cool indie-rock bands."

instead of...

"blah blah blah, stupid indie-rock band on my stupid (but amazing) ipod, so easy to take for granted, blah blah blah..."

catch my drift, hippy-democracy boy?

"hippy-democracy boy" -- Raine

Wow. You know a more scathing remark would have been: "Commie!" That might actually have done something to me...
I was going to elaborate my socio/politcal views to prove i am not a dem. or a rep. But whatever.

To each his own. Believe whatever you want about me.
