Hey girls! Thanks for all your answers to my post a few weeks ago about being "new" to lacrosse.

I am now OFFICIALLY signed up on my FIRST lax team!! I'm really excited. After watching lacrosse and wanting to play (but being denied by the leagues because I'm a girl) for almost my whole life I will FINALLY be allowed to play!!

I'm really excited but am also nervous at the same time. What if I suck? Anyway, I want to start training and getting ready right away. I row a LOT but that uses totally different muscles so I'm just not ready for lax.

Any tips? Power breakfasts and healthy snacks? Do you do sit ups and/or push ups every day? Etc?

TIA!

go running as much as possible b/c you will need to be able to do just that. if skill wasnt the most important thing in lax, running would be. but dont worry about sucking, we all sucked at one point.

if you dont have a crosse by now then get one, and throw on the wall. i recommend doing this before your first practice just to keep people from marking harsh comments about your bad throws and dropped balls.

pay close attention to the players footwork if you come across a game or practice between now and when you start. last thing you want to do is get out there and trip over yourself.

alright, what i have mentioned above is really directed to someone who hasnt a clue as to how to play lacrosse, so i dont mean to sound harsh with all the negative remarks, but chances are your first day wont go perfect. anyways, lax is great and by the end of the first week, all the hard and boring stuff is coming to a close and you can feel free to enjoy lacrosse to its fullest.

You didn't sound harsh at all! I really appreciate the help. I've played in gym class and with friends but never on a team. This is the second year this league has been around so the coach told me that MOST of the girls on the teams are beginners. I won't have to worry about any harsh comments as we're all learning.

I have fiddle stix but haven't bought a "real" crosse yet. Will practicing with the minis do much good, just to get the feel of it? Or will it be completely pointless?

I'm starting a running program tomorrow as well so hopefully that'll help me by the time the season starts in a few weeks.

it will help, dont worry about that. when you are on the wall, the stick doesnt matter. just as long as you get the motion of catching and passing to become fluid you'll be fine. but i highly recommend that you get a real stick by the time you start practice.

oh, good! i'm sure you will love lacrosse. it might seem difficult at the beginning, but it is definitely worth it once you get your skills down solid.

i have so much fun with healthy snacks! haha. i really like the nouriche fruit smoothie things that you can get in the yogurt section of your grocery store. i absolutely LOVE to buy the big boxes of frozen soft pretzels. they aren't bad for you at all, & all you have to do is pop them in the oven for a few minutes. string cheese, grapes, & animal crackers are good, too.

Thanks girls for all the Congrats and Good lucks! I'm definitely getting pumped up. "Try outs" are in a couple of weeks to put everyone onto appropriate teams. I had hoped to buy a "real" stick yesterday so I could practice but they had just sold the last girl's one the day before. So I'm stuck with my fiddle stix! Oh well, I'll still keep at it with those. Thanks again!
