That really sucks. How could a team lose so badly and why would they just keep scoring and rubbing it in?

Anyone ever lose a game near this bad? Only time I can remember losing so badly is a 16-1 loss for us last season in lacrosse.

I like how they started the article with "The Hanna High School basketball team can take some consolation: It didn't get shut out." I am guessing this team loses every game as well? I remember when I played baseball way back before we had lax in my town, and one year I was on a team that lost every game, we got tooled on every game.

Worst we've lost was 12-1 once and 14-4, which isnt bad. But two years ago we beat a team 25-0.... They were out to hurt people, and so coach said... "Score as many goals as you can", we put in 15 of the 25 in the 4th quarter... Cuz they took a cheap shot at me, and I was out of the game... Our guys got MAD... it was brutal.

my team shut out a team 21-0 last year even with JV, switched defenseand offense. sometimes you just have to still play the game. and it is still exciting for JV bench players to score goals in the varsity game even though it proves absolutely nothing.and it sucks when you spend the game on the bench bc it totally screws with your stats. i hate playing unskilled teams.

i think its a completely different case in basketball than lax because in basketball its so much harder to run out the clock. in lax its easier to and the field is so much bigger and time can be worn down easily. but you pretty much have to score in basketball.

a couple weeks ago my indoor team beat a team 23-3, it was so bad that the reff took away one of my goals for skipping, SKIPPING FOR CHRIST SAKES. and it was like one of my best goals ever, i walked the ball up to midfield and started skipping, skipped up to my defender and did a sick split dodge, drove through 3 guys lefty and scored on a lefty bounce shot, then he took it away for "taunting"

in the 1st round of the playoffs my freshman year we lost 12-1 with a running clock in the 2nd half, we had 4 or 5 subs cuz no one wanted to drive up to the game which was far away

Bad sportsmanship is taking it easy so they score a goal, then cramming 5 down their throat. I think it is better to try hard the whole game. Its the only way to make the people you're playing better at the sport, as long as they keep trying their hardest too. Don't you feel the slightest bit of embarrasement when someone says "Ok guy, I'll take it easy on you, you arent that good..." ?

Its a tough call, I mean how do you put your backups in and tell them not to score or try hard. Those guys work just as hard in practice everyday, and never get any playing time, so their trying to move up the depth charts too.

But on the other hand, give me the ball and let me dribble through all five guys myself, I know I'll get at least 10 points................which is better than 2 :WTF: :WTF:

i was watching a middleschol jv game one time, and they were up something like 30-1 in the first quarter. They ended up just pulling the plug on it.I guess if they kept playing it would have been something like the score showed on the link.

I know in soccer that if u score more than 7 goals more than the oppenent that its considered unsportmanlike, and the coach gets fined.

But you don't need to score to work your hardest. Maybe play the entire game with your weak hand and need 5 completed passes. Or work on a play you always mess up, etc etc. Yes that's going easy on them, BUT both teams get something out of it right?

my middle school lax team--I'm a coach..lost their first game 13-1 :( but our record is now 2-3-1 so it's all good. we havent lost since our second game AND we tied tha team last weekend.
I've only lost badly ONCE in lacrosse. Freshman year..versus a team from Liverpool, NY...we were scared...seriously we're from cali what do you expect..we lost like 2-12 ishh it wasn't horrible. for the first 15 min we were fine and tied but then we died..I don't know why..
We tend to win all of our league games by atleast 10 goals but never more than 15 or 20..everyone in our league sucks. The other leagues have so much more competition. I HATE playing bad teams..because I get so much less playing time. Our key players still play most of the game and our crappy players do but the starters that arent the top scorers(me) barely play.. it stinks.

That guy obviously does not know how to face off, during summer league I face off against guys out of college that played for D2 teams and they lose because they think they can just knock me over. Good face off guys know what to do to counter that, get low and rake the ball out as fast as you can.

I'm with you.

Its sport, you play hard. And what if they were to come back and win? its happened.

In some seasons i've played the only close games were against willy, the others were just practice, and you cant slow down because you've got to pile on the goals for percentage.

And i would be more emabarrased to be a team that the others went slack on than to be beaten by lots. Likewise i never feel bad for winning by 30 goals, but i do when we start showing disrespect by mucking around, making jokes, or by only playing at 50%.

I've only ever heard of complaints about, or even heard the phrase "running up the score" in Australia.

A guy on our team would have the ball 1 on 1 w/ goalie right on crease & instead of shooting it he'd have to pop out & set up the play again..It was funny though cause since our O couldn't shoot whoever got stuck w/ the ball on crease also got hammered by trailing defenders while he was making his way out..Then 4th quarter he let the JV guys get in & i think the game ended 16-1
