im a middy, and a lot of kids on my team cant catch or throw very well. I am a lot better than most of them and i dont know what to do. Should i be a ballhog or just hope they catch the ball. I bring the ball up whenever my goalie can make a save and get it to me but whenever i draw and dump they screw it up.

same problem with my team, i say pass it to them and get mad at them when they miss it. so then when one of them gives you lip abuot being a ballhog just be like, i would pass, but no one is ever open and no one can catch

hey guys... a little tip... being a ballhog and/or getting mad at kids for not catching the ball never got any team anywhere. all it does is kill team morale. if you really want the TEAM to get better, encourage them to play wall ball in their off time, offer to throw around with em and offer some pointers on how to throw/catch better. But, yelling at omeone when they dont catch the ball does nothing but kill his self confidence, which makes the team worse as a whole. You cant run an offense by yourself... there are 5 more players out there for a reason.

YA BUT THE ONLY KIDS WHO WILL PRACTICE WITH ME ARE BEGINERS WHICH IS FINE, BUT NO ONE ELSE WANTS TO SPEND THE TIME ON GETTING BETTER. IF I DIDNT HAVE A BROKEN FOOT I WOULD PROBALLY BE PRACTICING RIGHT NOW. Oops i just realized i typed in caps lock

After practice, just tell them that they're staying late to practice. Tell them if they want to get better they have to practice. Here's their options: 1)get good and practice or 2)suck and not practice. The choice is theirs. Only they can decide whether they want to get motivated.

it doesnt have to always be practicing with you in their free time... just toss around for 10 mins before every practice... it will definitely help a lot. the worst thing you can do, though, is to get frustrated and start yelling at your teammates ir just hog the ball.

One point - They're never going to learn to catch if you don't pass to them.

Even if you're going to be a ballhog, getting them to be in the right spot is key. You can sell a dodge better if the D is watching for a potential pass.

So, in practices focus on drills that train them where to be and in which direction to be running. If they're getting these fundamentals right, you can give them passes sometimes, and do it yourself using them as distraction other times.

yea, u got to pass to them so they can get better. i used to be one of those kids, and the coaches son would always yell at me and i always felt bad. but iv gotten much better, and i rember one day he came up to me and said ur really getting better, im proud of u. the guy was a complete jerk, but he still would pass and every time i would drop it, but it helped me get better. keep passing to them, they will get better

Go to the beach on a weekend and pass the ball around with them.

Or dominate in games so theyget respect for you. Like take it just enough times so your team has a solid lead then start passing it.

But the only way they are going to get better is by practicing and it seems like they are not very self motivated so you should help them do it.

Are you a captain?

If you are make the players stay after for a captains practice and do passing/throwing drills, draw and dump, etc.

hold on to the ball if ur scoring and winning.. but if u suck and miss the net then whats the point of not passing?
