you take your stick and check a persons stick with the butt of your shaft... its like picking ice with your stick and digging with the butt end...
bad explanation

One kid from Upper Arlington Hastings(a school in Ohio)tried that on one of my teammates. It hurt him too, because he got picked first on the head, then it went down his jersey, and pulled him back. The ref did nothing(collage refs...hah). So this other big guy on my team and I beat the s*** out of him as he was about to shoot and he couldn`t get a pass off. HAH HAH Hastings!
Oh well, ice picks are good if you know how to use them, but the bad part is you only have one chance for a good ice pick. So if you happen to blow it, and there is no one to back you up, you`re screwed.

yea im not a big fan of the ice pick i mean its just a kid trying to show off and its really not that nice. Id rather see some one knock the hell out of a kid or rip his whole stick down or sumthin but an icepick to me is just for show offs. Now i am a big show off im not gonna lie but ill only go for an icepick with a short stick and only if im beat and trying to catch a guy from behind ill ice pick his arm.

I have never heard that ice picks are illegal for defenseman before.

Okay, my coach can take over-the-heads and raps, but if he saw ANYONE do an icepick we would be doing 100 pushups and situps+triple the sprints, even if the pick was good! Seriously, it is just for showing off, I would do the same thing if I were the coach, too.

i don't think that ice picks are illegal with long poles. generally the call on any ice pick is playing with a free hand or a push. regardless it is a bs check. I never have thrown them and when they are thrown they are often easy to get around.
I coach too, and if any of my players threw that kind of a check it is either push ups and or sprints.

I advise you not to try icepicks unless you know how to do them because if you miss its an auto flag(I think)

it's not illegal unless it hits somewhere that a normal check would be illegal. Also, the time to try that is on the GLE, so that the guy can't roll around you and score from behind the cage. Same thing with other risky checks. Chances are you have time to recover before he runs around you to the inside and has to go far up in order to get a good angle on the goal.

Yep, for middle school if you miss, you are in the box for 2 min. and that is not the worst of it, then your coach pulls you and gets real pissed off.

yeah, i think its a sloppy and lazy check. i have never tried one, nor do i plan to. and i think it would be near impossible with a 6 ft pole anyways. he would see it coming a mile away.

My team almost never throws it unless we have a certain situation. Usually we only will throw the ice pick when the guy we are on is showing off WAY to much. It embarrasses them and makes them chill so they arent being an @$$. For instance, in indoor the player on the other team wouldn't do anything but rolling, diving, and between the leg shots so one of my teammates used the ice pick and took his candy. Embarrassed the jerk and gave everyone a laugh.
ONLY USE @SSholic checks on people who are being @$$holes.
^I like that rule:agree

well, technically, all checks are show-offy except for a standard stick check. when you say an over the head check, doesn't it look really sweet? or the butt dig? the rusty gate? the pencil? these checks make the game better.

ice picks am ghey
The ice pick should really only be used in two situations. If you get beat and use it as a trail check, or as you chase after a ground ball and are out of position for the standard poke on the gloves. If you watch old tapes of Glatzel from Cuse you will see text book icepicks....
