yeah i agree with b-water about not standing around...try to really just run through the ground ball...it will probably lessen the attackers ability to level u if ur constantly on the move

GIT YO WEIGHT UP SON.

Height doesnt matter. We have a kid whose maybe 5'7 that destroysssss kids twice his size. Get someone to explain the whole concept of groundballs to you also, they arent too hard. You basically put your back to him and scoop. They cant hit you fromt he back.

On taking ground balls, as Zak says the best technique is to get your back to the other guy and give him no chance to hit you fairly. Dont worry about whats in front of you just run into it and dont slow down!!

If you are quite short that can be an advantage in hitting since you will need to explode up into them which is effective whereas some big tall guy is gonna have to go down to hit you cleanly.

The key to avoiding getting clocked is to keep moving, a good quick side step is good, spinning is also effective - really practice your hand changes so you can spin off hits (as soon as they're about to hit you start spinning and roll off their force/hit- kinda hard to explain that!) Keeping your stick away from them is key i.e. if you are right handed spin off to the left and change hands halfway through (to a lefty hold), this will stop them being able to stick check you after you have spun past them!

As you come out of ground ball, immediately go one handed and tuck you stick. To avoid getting leveled as you're picking it up, try to get as low as possible. To avoid getting leveled once you've picked it up i like throwing in a quick swim move and lead them on their way

the best way for me personally (which may very well suck horribly for you, everyone's different) is to take one step to the side, and then duck.

obviously, not duck like you've heard an explosion, just tuck your shoulder in and bend at the knees and waist.

almost like you're checking the guy that's checking you

it doesnt really matter how short u r, if u got some weight to throw around and u drop the shoulder the 6 foot guy is gon bounce off the 5'5 one, most groundballs that are isos agasint two people the person who drops the shoulder will win, cause they are still low whereas the taller guy, or man who didnt get lower boucned up a little.
