Hey, I just moved from a public school in NY to a private in NJ and I heard about Lax. I really want to try it out,but since all the local leagues are full i have been poking around here or where to start. I got myself a cheap stick so i can learn the basics - and everybody is talking bout cradeling ( Biggest Noob Question Coming Up) How do you do that? Is it with the wrist or fingers? I know thats the stupid question but no-where have I found the answer (probably cause its soo simple) But thanks.

watch some of these videos. and look at how they do it.
use your off hand to keep the stick from going crazy and your good hand to make the actual cradle motion.

Cradling is done by creating the biggest rotation you can using both your arms and wrists. For instance...

When cradling right handed, with your left hand on the bottom and right on top of the stick, these should be your movements. Your left hand should flick upwards and downwards (just a little) with your stick. Your right arm and wrist should curl towards your right shoulder, rotationing the face of the head almost as far as possible.

Hope I helped. If you have any questions or need clarification, PM me.

its basically a method of protecting the ball. The swinging of your ARM(not wrist) while cradeling pushes the ball down into your net, so its tougher for it to fall out. you basically make a big semi-circle with your upper arm(the one closest to the ball), and this forces the ball down into your net.

I have the same problem. I downloaded Quicktime a couple of times and it still does not work for me.

yea

u start basic cradling across ur chest...i dunno why but thats what my coach does to newbies. but once ur good on that, u do it sideways, so its not so awkward when ur running.

Practise cradling tones cz ull be doing it constantly in lacrosse

oh-and i dun think ne1 has mentioned this yet but when ur cradling, at the end of the rotation, the face of the stik faces the way which it is going to go. so at the end of the rotation u do a 180 twist, before bringing it back...

i noe that sounds confusing...

When you hold your crosse straight up (head at the top, handle down) and motionless, the ball falls out.

Cradling allows you to hold the crosse straight up and down without the ball falling out. It allows you to run with the crosse up and pass, without dropping the ball.

Cradling uses centrifigal force to pin the ball into the net. When you pull the stick back, you face the head forwards at the end, so the ball is pinned into the bottom of the net. Then you push the crosse forward and rotate it with your wrist 180 degrees, so that the head faces back at the end and again the ball is pinned with centrifigal force into the net.

Am I the only one that cradles more with the fingers? I roll the shaft (curling my fingers) from the tips of my fingers down to my palm, while doing a wrist motion (but not 180 degrees). It seems so much much easier to control the shaft than just using your wrists. Plus, I never lose the ball or get stripped unless its a really good check.
