hello,

im a 20 year old dutch guy who is going to study at the uni of ottawa for 4 months as a exchange student.
i currently play lacrosse in the hague, and i am looking for info to see if there is a possibility to temporarily play in a team in ottawa. I will be staying in ottawa from january till may. Im not an experienced player. when i arrive in canada i will have played the game for 4 months.
i am basically looking for a team where i can play along and work on my skills. I dont neccesarily need to play matches as i can imagine that my playing level is way below any possible team mate i would have.

much appreciated if anyone can help me out

cheers

j

Visje,

If you can make your way over to Carleton U, there is Friday night rec league 7-9pm inthe Carleton field house. It starts this week and it costs ~$110. It is "Masters Rules" which is basically box lacrosse with no contact (you only need gloves/helmet/stick). I am sure it won't be a problem starting in January as they are always looking for players.

I'll PM you the contact name.

"(you only need gloves/helmet/stick)." Yeah I would recomend a jock too esp. if the league has lots of new players.

"Here, let me just try a bounce shot." {BOING!}

Hey KLD - do they still take in players that are only around for a short time? Like someone coming for a visit to the in-laws over the Christmas holidays?

Well, I guess you could use a jock but there wasn't any problems last year. About halfway through there were only a couple of newer players and the rest were pretty good. Another rule you should know about, no shooting from far out(since nobody is wearing any gear). It should be somewhat obvious but some people dont really think about it. Also, if you stickcheck someone, there are going to be a few people that start complaining about it. If you do it, make sure their stick is far away from their body so you can say that its their own fault and that they need to learn to keep the stick closer to their body.

I think they'll let someone play depending on the turnout. Half the time they don't really know everyone that has shown up since its a pretty big group.

Yeah a jock is a good idea too ;)

I think they do drop-in for like $5/night, but because they are playing out of the university field house, everything gets closed up when exams start through the christmas break. I don't think there's any dates in Dec at all.
