Sounds like a stranglehold on the NLL.
I wonder who gets stuck with the inventory of ProJoy branded jerseys?? I guess they'll be taking that whole section out of their website (www.projoy.com)
Reebok better get some talented equiptment designers then because purely lax companies like warrior and stx will be hard to replace for there products.

I almost guarantee you that they'll buy a company. They've already bought maxlax, and they'll probably buy another.

i like this deal better than the similar one that warrior has with the mll, since reebok is obviously more main stream, and hoepfully will advertise their product much better.

Reebok, Nike, and Adidas all sponsor a wide variety of sports. However, the only ones that are advertised on a mainstream audience are football, basketball, and occassionally baseball (and golf with Nike). See a lot of commercials about Nike Soccer? No. Every see some ads for Adidas Tennis? Negative. The list goes on.

Wait it says "All equipment" does this mean that rebok is going to start making sticks and pads?

It will probably be all VISIBLE equipment...I'm sure reebok won't care what the players wear underneath their jersey. And I doubt that reebok is gonna come out with box shoulder, kidney, and bicep pads.

:chuckle: I dunno - it is pretty easy to make box pads - if Shock Doctor can, why not Reebok? Maybe they will buy Linwood Lacrosse (as seen in WalMart) or that Zebra equipment from Quebec (as seen in National Sports).
They will never take down canadian tires brand of crappy sticks. NEVER!

I think alot of players will have a problem wearing a reebok glove this season. They will have no experience making gloves...so they better buy another company soon.

Reebok already makes hockey gloves, I know, I know lacrosse gloves are different, but it's not like they're completely starting from scratch.

Being extremely familiar with the major shoe companies, I know a few things about this. It has been made public information that Trevor Tierney has been hired as the product manager for the RBK lacrosse line, and as we all know, he is pretty knowledgible when it comes to lacrosse. It will be run in conjunction with the hockey line, which is doing extremely well right now in the NHL.
Looking at this from the other perspective, Reebok is taking a big risk making such a big investment in lacrosse. As much as I love it, it is a fact that it is not the most profitable sport and for them to be one of the first big companies to put serious money into this, shows that they are very serious about it and are going to put their best foot forward on it.
It will be no surprise when the other big companies follow suit...

I don’t know if any one else pays attention the business section but Adidas bought out Reebok back in August. So really Adidas and Reebok both just jumped into lacrosse. I really think this was a bad move by the NLL…
This is the article about the buyout so no one thinks im blowin smoke out my butt…

we all knew they were bought out by Adidas that's why rbk just exploded on the sports scene this year because they had Adidas pulling the strings. This is adidas way of taking over the sports world and then turning rbk into Adidas eventually.

I have been playing both hockey and lacrosse for many years. Nike makes crappy hockey equipment, baseball equipment, now they will probably start making crappy lacrosse equipment. Which like their shoes cost too much.

oh no, the day the NLL became like the MLL
"players will have to use reebok even if they have deals w/ other makers.."
I'd hate to have it become the next riddel and be forced to use a POS stick by reebok and garbage gloves....
But hopefully they mean on helmet/shoes, and etc only, not gloves/pads/sticks...

All I know is that if the league is getting an arse-load of money from Reebok, the PLPA will be all over them for a (large) chunk of the new funds.
When does the CBA come up? I can't wait to see the players twist the league's balls and win yet again!

yea I realize that, so what happens with gloves?
What about guys who are paid to wear gait/brine helmets?
What about (insert rambles on and on)?
That is what I mean...
I hope this doesn't turn into the MLL situation because I know a few canucks that just won't play, because their money is made by sponsors for the most part.

and yes they should...i often side w/ the league but if the league is going to get in between a player and his equipment company, even if there is no change in the endorsement, the future value of the endorsement has become impaired.

the gloves are awsome i tried a pair on atthe rush scrimage, and there feel is almost exactly like the stx ignitors which are in my mind one of the best gloves ever made. The only concern i ave is with the palma , there 100% leather and there is very little ventilation(onlu tiny holes) some of the plaers say ur hands get hotter than usual.

Time to answer a few questions.
1. MAXLAX also has a line of player gear so if they wanted to make player gear they could.
2. as far as players who already have equiptment deals they still honour their contracts to the companies as per the NLL/RBK press release.

The Reebok lacrosse gloves were actually patterned after their hockey gloves. However, the cuff and the thumb are different than their hockey gloves so that they were made for lacrosse.

After listening to the press conference involving the NLL and Reebok, Commissioner Jim Jennings has stated that ALL players will have to use Reebok equipment under the current CBA between the league and the PLPA. Therefore, no blacking out logos on current equipment will be allowed, even though a player may have a contract with another company.

I think that is wrong. A great move by rebok but this is still pro and many players rely on those endorsment deals to make some real money. I just hope that we don't start to see players leaving the NLL because of this. I wish they had said that all the players would be using only rebok gear by a certain year. Maybe one or two down the road. It would allow players to keep their contracts with other companies and give rebok a few years to produce a variety of gear and test it. Next year is going to be dumb as far as sticks go. I wouldn't expect them to make more then 4 sticks (4 if we're lucky) and that means the players wont have much of a choice in what kind of stick they use. I just hope they make a good veriety for the players. It would suck if everyone had to use the exact same stick.

As for Reebok sticks, they won't be used in the NLL until the 2007 season. Therefore, players will still use whatever stick they want for the most part.

This is huge. One thing though now that more companies are competing to create the ultimate stick/head.. I'm worried that lacrosse will become too easy to play. Actually it already has become quite easy. With today's new heads you have to try and drop the ball... and even there people still have sticks and pockets that are illegal. When I see heads like Brine's pulse it's scary... too technological.
Another fear I have is that the sport may become somewhat like football. The minute big companies like rebook take a hold on the sport... they over advertise it... I'm scared that there will be too much hype for the game of lacrosse. I mean its awsome that it gets recognition, however, not if it'll lose the zest, the pizzazz of what lacrosse is all about. Like golf for example its all about tiger woods... these new hightech clubs that can adjust angles, balls that straighten out, plus no one walks the course anymore etc...
Idk it doesn't feel right to me. But then again majority rules... and then again majority in this case won't nescessarily be lacrosse players. Most football fans nowadays don't know much about football they just conform with society. I noticed that for the most part it just gives ppl something to talk about.. Hey so how were those eagles, eh..
You know what I mean?
EDIT: like Lax101 said its unlikely that there will be that much hype for the game of lacrosse... do you see soccer getting adversiment from nike etc. no
So lacrosse probably won't till a very long time. But I'm just really worried in the long run. There needs to be some regulations. We're seeing much of lacrosse being monopolized as it is.

Reebox does not have the whole NLL yet, STX has Calgary for a year and Brine has Toronto (sponsorship) for two more... Brine also has Edmonton (except for gloves) for a year... The Bandits are also with Brine for 2006...

Just my opinion but; I think the NLL "SOLD OUT" to a company with huge pockets. In the MLL at least Warrior is a reputable company with years of great lacrosse mfg experience, they have earned the respect of players, coaches and retailers. The problem I have with this whole NLL RBK deal is RBK has no experience and little idea how to mfg a great piece of protective equipment that a athlete playing the NLL would want to use. I feel RBK has bullied their selves into our tight night community "the lacrosse community" buy throwing corporate dollars at men in white collars with no spine.
The only good I can see that could come out of this will be if RBK puts some advertising dollars into main stream media mediums and gets the average house hold exposed to our great game....
I just hope that the calibure of play does not suffer because of the quality and performence of equipment made by RBK. Lets face it, Gentlemen your equipment is your armour and you go to war on the floor you want to trust your equipment.
Just my thoughts

I am sure the NHL did the same thing..................come on now!
Reebok hired an ex Warrior person to make sure this goes well and no company in their right mind would just do it "half - ***"to spend money.
They see lacrosse growing and want a piece of an ever growing pie. Not to mention RBK has had it's hands in lacrosse already. They used to sponsor the MLL as well in the first few years and the summer showcase.

If anything, the NLL will become better. The players should be able to make more money and that will attract more players. The only problem is that some of the top players right now may back out because they aren't making the money they should without the endorsment deals. In the long run, this is great for the NLL. I don't like it, but it is great for the NLL.
