THE GAUNTLET
Isn't that where you drop a ball in the middle of 4-6 people and the two teams fight for it? If so then THE GAUNTLET.

That sounds pretty cool, I've never done that. We do "Fireballs" though where they throw the ball way up and of course everyone tries to get it. I guess it's kind of the same thing, except sounds less fun when typing it out!

my gauntlet is where you gotta get through 2 attackmen while they hack the snot out of you, it's good fun, toughens you up in a hurry too. u should see my armscars (no armgaurds, and short shoulder pads)

I like the scramble drill. It's similar to what biopro said. You have a set number of people on both sides of the field. Have a coach roll out a groundball and the two teams charge in and from there, it's basically a scrimmage. 3 or 4 on 4 plus a goalie on both teams.
Another drill is the star drill we do. This is basically a passing drill. You have 5 points spread out in the shape of a star with 3 or 4 guys at each point. You start a ball at one point of the triangle. You pass to the second line from you(to your right or left your preference) and run to the end of that line. The first man in that line catches and passes to the second line from them and so on. You can incorporate the infamous roll away and switch hands or catch one hand and throw with the other.
Our method/variation is, our coach shouts out for example, "catch left, throw right, counterclockwise" and we all scream "ECHO" to ensure that we understand what the order is and we do it. When the coach says "ECHO," he wants us to go in the opposite direction with the opposite of the first instructions. eg. now we catch right, throw left going clockwise.
I hope this helps. They are both very enjoyable in my opinion. Sorry if the star drill sounds confusing.

Squares of Death...
You have a small square area, maybe ten yards wide and long, and you go in the square with one other person. One has the ball and has to keep it in their stick until the whistle...the other person has to try to get the ball. If you step out of the square, you do pushups.

My favorite is 3 v 2 split box. It help defensemen talk rotate and keep head on a swivle. It also helps offensive players work on ball movement and finding waekness in the defense.

ya I love the 3 on 2's, some space to move and they really force a quick release

musical ground balls... i divide my players up into groups of 8, put 7 balls in a goalie stick and throw them halfway down field. the kid that comes back without a ball is doing laps till the group finishes. then i take a ball out and repeat till there is just one kid left.

Big fan of 4 on 3. Great way to get your triangles tight and your attackmen figuring out how to finish with pressure.

6 lines, each line gets a number, evens are togetehr, odds are together......coach rolls out a ball and calls out a number(1-6) and what ever number he calls, thats how many lines go out. for example he calls out 4, lines 1-4 go fight for the ground ball and 5-6 stay.....its a cool drill, my fav

what does this syracuse drill consist of??
My favorite we call it... hmm actually i dont know what we call it. Everyone gets in a circle while there are 2 players in the middle of the circle. 2 men are inside the circle. 1 man is trying to catch balls from people feeding from the circle and the other man defends. We usually have 2-3 balls going at once, the people around the circle pass to eachother or feed it to the kid in the middle while the other kid defends him as long as possible. I make my kids catch 5 balls.

Man ball--- 3 people lay face down facing the field. The 2 wings are on a team vs the middle man. The coach throws the ball down field and the 2 teamates have to get the ball, one taking out the man and the other going for the groundball. If the single man gets the ball, then the other 2 are out till u have a single 3 man team.

i don't know, but since you're looking to teach, it might help to hear from someone (sort of) learning the game...
The man-ball drill has helped my team and I the most (though we begin with the three guys on their backs), while it helps a guy learn to hustle and make a pickup under pressure, it's also the best way beyong scrimmaging to get players used to a lot of contact.
that being said, nothing, NOTHING has helped me learn the game and vastly improve my own skills like any kind of scrimmaging.
hope it helps

Man-ball drills are good.
My fave is having two lines (d and attack/middies) between the restrainer and half-way. Coach calls a number between 1 and 5 and that many defenders run out followed by that number plus one from the attack/middie line - the goalie is already in. Drill is over when the attack score, throw away or d get the ball. Its basically a variation on the 3 on 2 drill but with differing numbers of players, the d is always man down. Really helps practicing differing zone formations on d and quick passing for the attack.

My fav is kinda like what L4CR0SS3NUM12 said but we call it the Star Drill. 5 lines stand infront of the goal. Each line is looking at the goal at a different angle. One man will be in the middle, when the whistle blows he cuts to the front of the line and that first person in line will feed him a ball (everyone in line has a ball). Then he just shoots on goal and keeps pivoting and cutting for a feed. We usually make it so that one half of the lines can only feed your left hand. After everyone in every line has thrown their ball you switch the man in the midle. It gets harder when we have a long pole on the man in the middle.

we do the donovan drill. starts out as a fast break with my coach rolling the ball from the box, then the goalie clears to another middie thats comes in from the box, and so on and so forth. it goes from 4 v 3 to 4 v 4 to 5 v 4 until its 6 v 6 then the middies run a quarter mile (only one lap but doesnt quarter mile sound tougher?) then they get a rinse(water break)
