One should assume for this quiz that A1 and A2 in the above quiz are not goalies...if they were that would complicate some of the above answers...

AR25 doesn't distinguish between exchanging with a coach or player, just that it must be in the coaches box or substitution area. Can a player enter the coach's box?

haha me and my friend made up a play like that once for fun. we didnt think it was legal though. we would be running in and do a crisscross and one of us would have the ball and we would give each other our sticks. i dont know if its legal if u have the ball

No! It's a conduct foul.

Now, when can a player be in the table area?

I guess never, that space would be for the scorer and timekeeper, except in a dead ball period for the purpose of seeking information. Players can only be in the special substitution area if they are serving a penalty or are going to substitute on the fly.
In reality, if the player comes to the sideline in the substitution area or in front of the bench area and hands off his stick for another, I would let it go. I have yet to see a lacrosse game where the teams have managed to stay 6 yds back from the sideline.

ar 26 in the 2006 ncaa book says that the crosse exchange may be made at the coaches area or the table area. I would be very very reluctant to call a conduct foul or an illegal procedure call on Team A if one of their players stepped into the coaches area or the table area to give his teammate a new stick. That seems a bit like "piling on" when A is already disadvantaged by having to run over there with no stick or a broken stick. Considering, also, that maybe you haven't penalized either team for having their players standing just in that coaches area or standing way up in the corner of the box watching the game...By the book you may be right. By common sense you'd be wrong.

That was the point I was making in my simultaneous reply above.

I agree. But I'd tell them to knock it off.
