alright, to put it simple, i'm a HUGE kid. not tall, not really fat (i do have some fat on me) but huge. i started playing lax like 2 years ago and i played attack which i still do. i'm 13 years old and about 5'5 160 pounds and i can bench press 150 pounds. i can run just as fast, if not a little faster than the other attackmen on my team. i was wondering if i should switch to defense since i'm so huge. what do you guys think?

well, do you really want to? attack is fun i love scoring goals. haha but seriously if you are faster than the others, and you have better stick handling, and you can shoot, why switch to defense?

If you switch to D you would have to work on footwork and get used to the long pole. But thats what I did and I love D, I'd much rather hit a lot of attackmen than try to avoid D-poles.

I see no reason why you should switch from Attack to Defense. If you already enjoy playing as an attackman and already have all of the skills down, then use what size you do have to further your game. I would not say that you are huge. Most of my players are that size or larger. One of my defensemen is 6'4" and 250. He just celebrated his 14th birthday. In my opinion, THAT is huge.

personal preference one of the best players on my h.s team is GIAGANTIC and hes probably gunna start at a d3 college, so if you like attack stick with it , and your size will work for your advantage, tkae this comeing from a defender its alot harder to push out a 170pound 5'5 kid then it is to push around a 135pound 5'10 kid

on one hand, you have the natural d build. on the other, you are a strong, will yeatman/ian dingman like guy. ur fast, which u really need anywhere anyway

the question is, R U GOOD WITH UR STICK SKILLS? if u don't have great stick skills, maybe u'd be better suited at defense. try d (it's always good to be multi-dimensional) but practice at attack too and find out what u like.

I don't know how your team is, but you might be able to get more playing time if you switch to D. I know that on my team, we have about twice as many attackmen as defenders, because all the new kids want to score but they don't want to run. Defense is a great position, so its really up to you.

If you have good stick skills, you don't have a reason to switch. Unless your team needs defensemen, you don't really have a reason. You would have to adjust to playing D, but if its what you want, I don't see any problems you would encounter.

I had the same probelm, i started to play attack when i was in 7th grade then in the middle of the 8th grade season, i decieded to switch to defense, i has poor knoweledge of sliding and stick skills, i had no playing time at all, i was pretty good at attack but i make the biggest mistake in my lacrosse career, it was horrible , later in 9th grade i switched back to atack, and i got planty of playing time, but it;s your choice, sometimes its good to take risks and some times its not, hope you dont regret your choice as much as me, still today i kick myself for wasting a whole year playing defense and knowing nothin, good luck

i would try it, it's a lot of fun. It's harder to adjust to than attack though, so make sure you can practice your checks, stick handling, sliding etc. I went from middie to D then back to regular middie, but i didn't put in the effort I should have.So i would go for it.

i play attack, and i'm pretty big too. i'd say if your stick skills are up to par with the rest of your team, stick with attack.

ya dude id say stick with attack...if your team is in need of D mroe then id consider but just play we're you're goin to get time & where you enjoy playing...now to set a few things straight, you're not that big...like obviously your not small im just saying dont let your ego float away from you kid, i'm 15 only about 5'8"(i grow slowly, but every male in my fam. is at least 6'2" & every female at least 5'8", so im hoping im still growing) i weigh about 155 but i can bench press 205 right now.......just cause your big doesnt mean your good, jsut like cause im strong doesnt mean im great, these are all credentials that will help you perfect your game, but there are much more important things to consider then just size

like everyone said stick skills..and what your time needs and how it will affect your playing time based on what position you are. theres no need to switch unless you no longer want to play attack. youve got plenty of time before HS to get ur stick skills down as well. im a defender now, but last yr i played middie for my varsity team. d fit me better since my stick skills were not as good as the others (id never played before..used to play bbal and i started lax as a junior lol). but if ur doing well at attack..comfortable and enjoy it..stick with it. most attack kids are tiny so ur size will be an advantage there. keep up the speed and good luck

We had an attackman that wheighed in at 210 lbs and was 5'7 we called him deiseil and he just ran through d guys and barley had to shoot because he got right of to the goal. he could runt o not as fast as me but faster than most guys. you shouldnt play d because thats what youd be good at you should play a position because you want to. Im a better middie than attack but i love attack more.

Just do what you want. A my HS played had like a 6'3, 250 pound middie. He seriously ate people. He was really good. But just do what you want, size doesnt matter.
