taping a buttend

i wanna tape my butt end of my shaft and want to do it right, i want just enough tape on it that it is legal...last time i did it it came out bulky, how do you put tape on the buttend(little stips of tape, big strips, etc....)

when you tape the butt of your stick, technically it should be taped so that it wont cause any unnecessary danger to another player. that is, no sharp edges and the like. i would use big strips. i usu. just take a roll of grip tape and run it around the edges, and then fold it inside. kinda like this:

i take off the rubber butt and take the regular width of my tape, about an inch or 3/4 inch or so and wrap it around a couple times. then, i split the tape to about 1/2 inch wide and wrap that around to the desired width.

Why don't you guys use the rubber butts. Is there a disadvantaage to use them.

I use a bottle cap and tape. I like the feel better than the rubber buts, especially those new extra bulky ones that i've been seeing lately.

the bottle cap is illegal.
You need to widths of tape, one that is about 1/8-1/4 of an inch and then the other side which should be about 3/4 -1 inch.
Tape the actual butt of the stick to cover the hole. at the extreme bottom of the stick use the smaller strip of tape to go around to make nob for you hand to feel, then run up the stick as far as you would like to give some grip, i usually dont got more than a couple inches, some go almost a foot.

I haven't heard anything about bottle caps being illegal. As for how to tape, put a bottle cap on the but end and tap it with a hammer until it stays on, then put a couple pieces of cloth tape ripped in half over it until you get the thickness you want. Then just wrap whole pieces of tape over that and however high up you want. I like to drip melted candle wax on mine and let it soak in for two reasons. First, it enhances the grip a little bit. Second, the tape won't fray as easy.

Dont use a bottle cap, it works, but my friend did it and he didnt tape it up good and it fell off and he didnt notice it.....

You've got to put alot of tape on it, not just one piece or two. I like bottle caps because with the plastic ones the stick will wear through after awhile. Also, I agree with the but ends that are out nowadays. They might look cool, but touch them and they fall right off. The HS team I coach had just gotten their sticks and the butt ends were flying off all over the place.

i put a bottle cap on teh bottom them tear long strips of tape into thirds(perfect width) i can't play with a stick with a regular butt now...i love my sticks....my butts stick off the stick like 3/4's a inch out

i use a rubber end on most of my sticks. there isnt a disadvantage that i know of, and i prefer a rubber end to tape or anything else.

i like the imple butt end that came on my db6000 not that shat that they put on the power grips and stuff. simple = teh best.

i'd say taping it over a bottle cap works the best rubber moves around and is weird i don't like that feeling

i can definatly verify that the bottle caps are illegal, however if you enjoy the bottle cap feel, go with what i said above, or tape the bottle cap on and cover the cap w/ tape.

i still use the rubebr end caps
i just tape them up so they don't fall off
i hate the one that get cookie cut though,
and the new brine ones that get stuck on your clothes cause there all wierd
but i need the rubber i hate the way that huge tape butt feels on the end of a stick

please enlighten us on the rule and where it may lie cause i have a bottle cap and e-lacrosse has it in there tips section and i wouldn't think that e-lacrosse would put something that is illigal on there site

alright this is the deal so i might have been mistaken, it was called in a high school game when i was in high school so a long time ago, i believe the penalty was illegal stick, soemthing to do with having open metal on the but end. good call on that guys. it looks like i was wrong, def. not an ncaa rule.

well open metal is one thing such as taking the but cap alllllll the way off but having a bottle cap protectes from that

I use a rubber butt end on my long pole...the warrior one, its not that bad and i tape over it so it wont fall off cuz it fell off 2wice in one game when it was raining and then i tape maybe 6 inches up the pole just cuz a butt end doesn't give enough grip for the end of the pole.
