How helpful of you.

First of all colin, for answers to questions like the one you asked, all you gotta do is use the search bar at the top left of your screen. Type in "Legal Pinching", and see what you find that can help you.

Actually it isn't legal to pinch a stick for American Field. It would be altering your equipment to give you an advantage

you can do it most refs dont notice or care but every once in awile you will get that strict ref. i pinch mine but nothing really insane just a little

yeah, while its technically illegal, you can still do it and 90% of refs wont care/notice. if, however, you are stickchecked and the ref deceides to measure your head and finds it illegal thats a 3 min non releaseable. so if you do go to pinch it look at the pinching tutorial or pm me and ill give you some tips

i dont see how its really illegal, i used to take faceoffs with a profile and it became very very pinched, just enough so that a ball can barely get out, i dont see why i would deserve a penalty for not being able to buy a new stick so soon, because the pinch happen because of a neccesary part of the game. weird

You can pinch the head a little. Don't pinch it so that it gives you an unfair advantage but pinch it so you can gain more ball control or shot accuracy.

if you dont pinch it extremely than its technically illegal, but i doubt they'll call you on it.

If you take the rule literally and follow it exactly, then yeah, its illegal. Will it ever be a problem? No, as long as the stick still measures up where it counts (ball doesnt get lodged, 6.5 inches at the widest part) then it will be fine. Its like restringing your stick. If you take the rule literally, then it is altering your stick for an advantage and is therefore illegal. Does anybody care? Of course not, I have never heard of a ref calling a pocket illegal simply for it not being factory, its only if it is too deep or helps the ball get stuck.

the refs care and will can call any stick that has been altered for competitive advantage illegal EVEN IF IT MEASURES MORE THAN 6.5 INCHES

and believe me, as a coach. i care very much if you get a 3 minute non releasable penalty. so much so that you will be riding pine and running laps for a VERY long time. my last player that got a 3 min NR for a stick spent several whole practices running laps around the practice field in full pads

if i pinch it and it still meets the requirements, how is it possible to penalize me for it if they dont have proof i pinched it?

WHEELAX2

that's why it rarely gets called, it's nearly impossible to prove...

because they are the refs.
think king henry the 8th in stripes.

their rule over the game is absolute. if they think you have altered your stick, they will penalize you. they dont need proof, all they need is that yellow flag.

wheel is right, its very rare that they will flag a stick that meets 6.5, but heads and pocket enforcement is becoming a point of emphasis for the refs. dont be that guy... especially you 92 since you may be playing for me next year :chuckle:

just to clarify: the kid i made run had a illegally pinched stick. but ive taken pinched sticks away from kids whose skills werent up to having the narrowed head

yeah i'll be playing for you next year, and i pinched my bionic a little bit. the dimensions are fine but i'm wondering should i unpinch it? (your post about running during practice scares me)

.....if they think you have altered your stick, they will penalize you. they dont need proof, all they need is that yellow flag.....

I recognize the existence of that rule, but it is one that is a complete a$s and needs be reworded

I know this is a picky argument, but it's also a valid one.

As written, the rules empower the referee to make an impossible decision on-field (has the head been modified?). I would argue that unless the refs carry reference material including dimensions for every commercially available head, they cannot be empowered to make that call.

As long as a head meets legal dimensions, and is not unsafe, what difference does it make if Warrior shapes the head, or if it is reshaped aftermarket? I'd say leave the dimension rules in place, leave the definition of the ball roll-out test in place and assign the 3:00 NR for having a head that is out of line with respect to either of these. Thus, no need to worry about whether it was modified or not.
