I was just wonderin if theres anyone on here that plays in the WPSLA or just lives in the Pittsburgh area. I play for Chartiers Valley and were in Division 2 south

yea i play for gbg central in d2 south. Who does everybody think will win the four divisions. D1 north, sout and d2 north and south. Just wanted to see who everyone thinks will win there division

I play for upper st. clair. D1 is once agian going to be a very competitive division with us, lebo, na, and franklin all having strong teams.

i think that mt lebonon will win d1 south and and seneca valley will win d1 north. d2 north belongs to either North Hills or Hampton. but as for our divison D2 south i think the favorite is Fox Chaple but Greensburg looked pretty good when we played them at the W&J tournament and i heard u guys played good against sewicly last year plus Quaker Valley was in Division 2 last year but u cant count out some of the other teams tho and i think itll be up for grabs

The one team I do not see it going to in the north is Sewickley. I know, I know. You are all think well of course that is what the SSA kid will say. However, although fall ball is not always a good indication of talent, Sewickley looked absolutely dreadful at Big Shot.

NA might have looked tough at W+J, but when people play them in the season they will not be a terribly difficult team.

Their D is big, but lacks knowledge of the game much like their offense.

Gonna be hard to predict the division winners simply based on Fall ball. Lots of guys were in football, hockey, basketball, swimming, etc.

And i also heard that there are gonna be just a d1 and d2 champ this year and no intermixing of divisions in the playoffs like in years before. I know that no d2 team would come close to top d1 teams like franklin and lebo but it was fun te see teams like gcc in there 2nd or 3rd year going in against teams like seweickly in the first round of d1 playoffs and hangin in for almost the whole game. and who do u think will be the overall d1 champ and d2 champ of both north and south divisions?

Whats makes u think gcc has what it takes to pull it off in d2. I heard they returned there entire defense and goalie from last year. I saw them play and there defense was tough! They may have what it takes but i just wanted to see what dragon coach saw in them.

Talented and able goalie
Able defense

I think that a really good goalie alone will steal a few games. It's enough to win D2 in Pittsburgh.

Yea its ringling i just didnt know why anyone would like gcc in d2 south since we just moved up. our team thinks we can but i didnt know anyone else did. whats up guys how have u two been? Dragon coach i signed in november to play at d2 wheeling jesuit on a scholarship. I also got offers from VMI, seton hill, wooster, st. vincent, washington and jefferson, and a half dozen other schools.

rizzo is fox chapel supposed to be any good? there the only team in d2 south that im worried about i know we can play with the others in our division. and north hills shouldnt give u guys a problem if you have two players like that on your team we played them at the w and j tournament and it was mostly there varsity guys against our varsity defense and our jv attack and midies and we beat em. we should do pretty good the only teams i see givin us trouble are franklin pcc and fox chapel and im pretty sure we play you guys to. we got franklin and pcc the first two games of the season sometime in march.

I play for Fairmont. This is only our second year and I doubt we will be much of a force since we will have a lot of new kids and only me and a friend were really the only ones that did camps or anything throughout the off season but we will have speed. We'll get beat on the defensive side though, because our defense is ok at best and our goalie is very inconsistent but maybe we will be in some games.

yea its alright, but as far as fox chaple is concerned we played them at slippery rock 7v7 and they werent that impressive but i dont know how many of their starters were there or what plus i dont think you can judge a team by how they preform in those tournaments cuz i know we were missin alota guys to other sports

My friends in coaching say the Coach Jayson is moving onto Win-Thurston. I can't say that I follow much of Alderdice's Lacrosse Team. My job is to track the top talent and top teams in the area.

I smell one too. D2 is goingto come down to either GCC or NH. GCC's defense is pretty solid, their offense isnt bad. Pat Bursch is a really good attackman. Probably a small D1 or big D2 recruit

I watched them roll -four- midfield lines at Peters last Saturday before using their deep bench. They also used -two- full attack lines before getting to their bench guys.

This is a team that should go deep in playoffs. I haven't seen a team like this in W PA in a few years.

They should be decent were losing three long poles and a bunch of middies but our young guys know the game and all the need is to bulk up and we should be pretty decent. We usually practice alot more than most teams just to try and catch up with teams that have feeder programs in elementary school. IF they work hard in the offseason they can be just as good as years before.

Ive notcied lately that the refing in the wpsla is terrible. They are taking away the physical aspects of the game and calling the game for whimps that cant take it. THe also blow so many calls out of proportion that teams can seriously be killed by the refing in close games and that would be a shame if games came down to a couple of old men running up and down the field. Has anyone else noticed that they arent letting it be as physical anymore?

No im the short goalie. I had 20 saves on 27 shots probally 6 1 on1 saves. Struss has had better games, but he still played well. We just shut off there transition dropped the mids back because they dont play well settled.

Hey how did u get recruited? did u go to camps or play on trvael teams or just play gcc? aretn u going to wheeling jesuit?

i got recruited/ letters by like 15 schools, not like huge d 1 but around 15 schools. i knew the three local coaches at svc, w and j ,and shu. i didnt even actually get recruited to wheeling they were a school i was interseted in but never was contacted by. i sent them a dvd of my junior year and met with him like three or four times and i signed in november. my advice is to go to the gettysburg camp. im not sure but i got 10 letters out of that camp alone. And if your good enough they have the head coaches from schools like air force salisbury navy maryland virginia and a bunch more. The most improtant part if to get a sick tape from your junior year. but if i were you i would definatly spend the money on big recruiting camps rather then travel teams. my dad gave me the option last summer of gettysburg or the rebels and i picked gettysburg and happy i did. i had an offer from vmi that was the only d 1 school but a bunch of d2 and d3 schools. its just all about getting notcied

hey, i play in wpsla for canon mac in 2d south and this year we went 9-3 and took winchester thurston to overtime in the playoffs, but lost by 1. we came into the season with low expectations and little respect from other teams. we lost to both fox chapel and greensburg cc by a deficit of 2 goals. we also beat winchester thurston, university, and morgantown in the regular season. do you think b/c of this year we will start getting more respect from wpsla teams?

Nice season everyone. Whos moving up whos moving down. We hampton our moving up to D1. I think trinity is moving down.

Hampton will not do well in D1. They got killed by SV 17-6 and central catholic 11-5. They barely beat trinity-the worst team in D1 this year. Hampton might win 4 games tops in D1 if they are lucky.
CC will do well in the north but will struggle without their goalie. He came up big in many games and the backup goalie is not that good. Offensivly they are pretty solid. #2 on attack had a good soph year. Donley returns but I think hes overrated :nut:
NA- Lose goalie and just like CC their back up is not amazing. They return rullen who is probably the best all around middy in the league. Jose returns thats a plus.
SV- sv is the sleeper team this year. they have potential if the underclassmen step up. lose johnson on D. return goalie. Cross is gone along with most of their leading scorers.
I personally think USC will have a horrible year. No more nacey, barkus, yealy, and sculli.
Lebo will have a great offense. Young, Tissambam, and Marsati (sp) will return. They lose Story and Schnirel. Schnirel was one of the main reasons why lebo did well last year.
Peters has a stacked offense. Sean Paul Mauro and Powell are sick. Spencer Smith has a rocket outside shot. Just like majority of the teams, Peters lose their goalie Cicero.

This year can be a complete toss up. Mostly all teams lose key players. It will be interesting to see who steps up.

On wpsla.org it has Heinricher as a senior...so i dont know. If he is going to be a senior this year than CC will have a pretty solid team to win D1 north.

i believe hampton will do well in d1 north. we had trouble with trinity yes we had starters out. but we handled pr and beat bethel. if u look at d1 north next year its not very strong NA and CC our the 2 top teams. Third place will be either Hampton or Sv. Pr will not have a strong team, neither will sewickly. And i have no idea about shadyside except they are getting cosgrove back who will be an all american

Sure they beat bethal and pine, but so did everyone else by a bigger margin of goals. Beating PR 12-7 is not really "handling" unlike most teams who beat them by 6 or more. And beating BP is not that impressive or nothing to brag about either. You didnt really crush them. D1 champ Lebo beat them 20-2. THATS handling a team. beating bp and PR does not mean hampton will do well in d1. i mean they almost lost in the d2 championship.

North Hills- will have a bad year. lose a lot to graduation (Kinslow, Musgrave...) They lose goalie Struss, who was underated in 06. They were very senior heavy in 06 and losing them to graduation will hurt them.

Baldwin- Midfielder Ian Wild and Defenseman Matt Iercia are the best two players on the team. Baldwin will not do that well but watch out for these to players.

Vincention- No chance at winning D2. Unless the players worked hard over the summer, they will not do well.

Kiski- watch for rising senior defenseman Paul Schwartz (SP) One of the best defensemen in D2.

that shwartz kid is overrated in your eyes my friend.... he trys playing offense with his pole and there is a fine line between getting the onfense going with a pass from a pole and a pole holding on to the ball way to long. ive seen him lose balls numerous times because he didnts put it in the offenses hands. So for every great play he makes on defense to get the ball which i do give hime credit for there is a chance the ball will be coming back the other way on an errant pass. Maybe he was just trying to make stuff happen this year but kiski did have a decent offense. so he should have left it in there hands

Deft- I dont know about GCC except they lose their goalie...i think. Burch returns on offense. They have a chance to at least make top 4 in their division.

longpole- i can see what you mean about schwartz. But im just talking about how he plays on the defensive side. he has solid checks and knows what to do. He could pass the ball more often on clears instead of running it himself.

In all honesty, what do you guys think will come of BP in this upcoming year ('07). I know we're still not going to be a powerhouse, but I definalty expect up to step it up from last year. I mean, how can't we, we aren't losing anyone...and that is no exaggeration, our entire team last year was juniors, and we'll all be seniors this year.

Offensively I think we are pretty well stacked, we're picking up a kid that used to play for us but moved, and is coming back to play some attack. He'll easily start. As for the rest of the attack, Wink and Ruby are always good for points.

Midfield wise is probably are weakest point, but still not that bad. Mason can pick goalies apart with his shot, and Polito has one of the best split dodges I've ever seen. I, Kaplan, hope to step it up this year, and we have 2 or 3 more strong mids to count on.

Our defense is still going to be tough. With budja running LSM, (and rusch, a sophmore filling) and Spadacene and Bozic down low, it's a tough combo.

Division III -

Here is how it is. No athletic scholarships. Get admitted like anyone else. Does it help to be a lacrosse recruit? absolutely. If you have the grades and test scores, it can still be good to exploit lacrosse to get the easy work-study jobs, preference in class scheduling, or preference in declared majors. For some schools, named grant/scholarship money can be had by the school's athletes.

Good consistent D3 programs (annual rank #1- around #12) use a lot of recruit planning. If you don't fit the coach's plans, count on maybe making the team as a red-shirt but not playing much. You'll have to be very dedicated and persistent. On the flip side, if you get admitted to Salisbury or Gettysburg for instance and you were a top notch HS all-star, you still have to tryout with everyone else, even if you were promised to start for four years.

For middle of the Road D3 teams, if you are a good athlete, then you should easily make the team. The coach would be foolish not to take you, but he too has recruiting plans. You may not play much until Jr or Sr year.

For teams ranked around #20 and lower, consistently outhustle and outperform the recruits and you'll make the team and get a chance to play right away. It isn't difficult for those who work hard, and you open the door to all of the financial perks that the school's other athletes may get.

Why are their financial perks? Simple. College alumni that played a varsity sport for their alma mater tend greatly to be more giving during alumni fundraising than those alumni who did not participate. It's hard to argue against that. When it comes to money, the colleges will take it from wherever they can get it.
