Well, i felt like I needed to create a new topic for Michigan. This is for the 2006 season. Also does anyone know when the unified teams are going to be split up, ie B-ham, Farmington, Huron Valley etc

uh well my highschool's freshmen team has mostly beginners. Ann arbor huron. they all play hockey though so they will become pretty good. and the majority of our people start freshmen year and were still ranked 6th.

Here's a little hint...unless you come from the Birmingham area, most teams have no feeder program (so all programs start as freshmen). What does playing hockey have to do with lacrosse? Not a thing. The skating doens't help with running because it uses different muscles so I'm kind of confused by your whole post.
On the whole breaking up Unified teams, they're going to wait as long as they can. You will still see Birmingham Unified (not that it matters because most of the GOOD players come from Seaholm anyways) and other unifieds together until they absolutely have to be broken up.
i believe his point is that hockey players often develop into lacrosse playersfairly fast b/c of the similarities in the styles of the game (i myself find basketball to be pretty similar as well). on the side, ann arbor does have emerson, who provides usually 10 really good players a year to start with

ya emerson is a pretty decent feeder program, with around 90 kids trying out each year. and covering grades 5-8. with exceptional 4th graders allowed to play. and hockey has many similiar characteristics with lacrosse. more then say tennis or baseball.
im guessing you havent been here in awhile, but most cities have travel teams for middle school these days.

about the unified teams or whatever, i play at rochester and our district is all about hating lacrosse so i could see rochester united staying together for a long time

so unified is basically multiple high schools put togather? that is soo sweet.
if ann arbor didd that we would be unstopable. fa sho

rochester united represent. it'd be sweet if we could have our own team, but if we split we may not have a team anymore cuz our schools doesnt sponser us or do anything for us. Adams might have a team but i dont think enough people play for stoney creek or rochester high

oh and before when this was about how hockey relates to lax its pretty much that u have a stronger upper body and u can take a hit better cuz you are used to it where ppl who play baseball or something if they get hit they will prolly fall

Dono if this helps at all but I played them on emerson last year. Very nice program, players knew what they were doing. Saw the HS team play a little bit last year. Extremely nice field and set up. Good luck with whatever you plan on doing.

well im not going to lie to you, you are more than likely going to have to go south. i live in an area where lacrosse isnt that big either(flint) so i went to birmingham for fall ball, and now i am playing in fenton for indoor. but i think i am going to be going to waterford though.
my team, flint powers, is going to be decent this year. we are most definetely going to do better than last year. we are more organized and we have more team players this year. its going to be a good season though.

Isn't Bay City Central getting a team? In fact, if I'm not mistaken, they scrimmage Flint Powers in April... speaking of which, how do you think Powers will do this year, jrmelax16? You guys have a moderately tough schedule (I think you play Foley twice, Prep once, LCN, and Canton), but you've got a new coach and (from what you've said) you should do better.

well im guessing(and hoping) that we will be above 500 this this year. we have a lot of good players this year, matt gregson, justin ward, and nick degroot to name a few. i couldnt tell you how tough are schedule is though, because i really dont even know what it is. yeh we have a new coach this year, but im not so sure about whats going to happen with that. he hasnt actually played lacrosse, but he will be more of an actual coach than what we had last year. its going to be a good season though.

hey i am visiting relatives in Michigan in a couple of days and need to buy lax stuff. There aren't many stores here in Houston and i was hoping you guys could point out a couple up there. Around Flint would be best, Saginaw maybe. Any in between couldn't hurt either. If you know of any post the website link if they have one. Thanks in advance.

the place you want to go without a doubt is peranis hockey world. its on dort highway in the dort mall i think. they have all of their older brine stuff 50% off. idk how many actual pads and stuff they have but they have ti's for really cheap. also you might want to check out premier sports in fenton, they have some stuff but its mostly the lowend stuff.

I can tell you that Perry is definately a good coach. He took Grand Blanc a little ways, and should definately do the same for Powers. He just has to light a fire under his player's asses to get them going. I know we lost to GB in our first game 10-4, but came back and beat his guys 11-10 in OT. Still a well coached team, and hopefully he'll bring that to the Chargers....
BTW, here's your 06 schedule-

i have a lot of faith in him. i have him for one of my classes, lol and hes always trying to recruit people to play so we are going to have a big team, and hopefully that gives us some more raw talent. yeh i heard that he lost a couple close games in over time. btw what school do you go to?? o and thanks for the schedule.

I created the team over at Howell. I have a ton of respect for the man, going back to when he helped us out with getting games added to our schedule (the two with GB). We also agreed to continue the tradition and play a game vs Powers, but had to cancel it. We had 19 games (one over the limit), so we needed to scrap one in favor for another scrimmage. Why we didn't just scrimmage Powers? I dont know, I didn't make that decision....

I was at a camp a few years back with a really good attackmen from Forest Hills. I believe he graduated last year, and was getting interest from a handful of D1 programs. Any idea who he is and where he went?

Yeah, that's our goalie. I'm assuming you're playing in Fenton then? He's really small (only a sophomore), but he's decent. He was all we had last season, but shared time at the end of the year with a new guy. I think he has some raw talent that can be polished a bit, but it a definite game-saver. I can think of multiple occasions where he kept us in big games.
How's he doing in that indoor league?

he's doing alright. it's kind of hard when you don't have any defense. lol and when you have a scoring powerhouse like powers. the guys on his team are grand blanc what a coincidence lol. but yeh im going to go to waterford to play for their next session and playing at fenton.

We played you guys last year (howell). I can tell you what, the first time around, we knew that we were both first year programs, so it was pretty even. Both teams played well and I think we definately had the advantage. Then, the second time around, was an absolute mess. We had a scheduling conflict for our game field (which I found out a few days before), so I had to try and work something out with Vorce. It was either playing at our practice field, or going to Dewitt. Unfortunately, I made the wrong decision and agreed to play it at Dewitt. As strange as it may sound, that choice costed us the game (and for that, I take full responsibility).
None of our guys really knew what was going on (that day I had to print out about 30 maps to Dewitt), and it was just bad. Guys got lost, it was just a bad day. In addition, I think we took Dewitt too lightly. Last time, we took you guys pretty easily, so we figured we could do the same thing. We were on a long win streak, and figured we could roll right into the playoffs. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, and the team got a reality check before our playoff win.
If I were your team (collectively), just work on your stick skills. Our opinon of your team was this- they are a bunch of football players that can hit, but can't play lacrosse. If you can add some lacrosse to that football, you guys might be good. I know we don't play you guys this season (I left the scheduling up to our AD who doesn't know anything about lacrosse), but if you guys opt for the tier 3 tourney, we may meet you guys in the playoffs.

Grosse Pointe is pretty good. GP South did well in the playoffs, we were seeded number 2 in our divison and 12th in the state. our middle school program is pretty good now, but was awsome in my 7th and 8th grade years (i'm almost done with my sophomore year)
