Hey, i need some new box rib pads and i used to wear the plastic STX ones and they were pretty good but i can't seem to find them many places so what kinda rib pads are you guys wearing? What kind will be enough protection for cross checks to the back and ribs? I am more of an offensive player than a defensive so i would want something that can move and is very flexible. Thanks

Yeah the Stx ones are definetly amazing. But what I do is wear field lax ones and put one of those cheap unpadded shells over them its the best.

I use the warrior hard plastic ones, and they work good. it's like a rib and back protector or somthing like that

....ur not supposed to hit on the back... .....

Yeah, and it never happens, because it's against the rules

Think about it for a second - you're not supposed to be slashed on the arms, because it's against the rules. So, by the same logic, I hereby recommend that you stop wearing arm guards :dummy:

Seriously - The Warrior and DeBeer/Gait box pads are cheap and perfectly fine. STX are OK, but don't go as high up the back

I haven't seen the Harrow ones, but you can look at those too.

bballplayer, I don't care whether you want this posted in the NLL forum, or the Equipment forum, but you can't post it in both. I merged your two threads together. If you want this ONE THREAD moved to the Equipment forum, I'll do it. Either post that choice here, or PM me.

Don't double post.

Yes, they do. But, its not popular in the box ranks, by any means.

You really need back protection. Hitting the back may not be allowed but it does happen a lot. You are allowed to push the back and in our legue, a push starts a foot or two away from the body.
Warrior makes one head for box but nothing else that's box specifics. They do have equipment that is able to be used in box though.

They make real kidney pads, and real "fibers" arm guards as well.

I saw a kid in major bantam house league this year take am accidental, but really nasty crosscheck in the back while he was wearing the soft padded just-like-those-STX-ones pads. This kid was no pushover either and he was hurting really bad. The very next game he was wearing the fibers and had no complaints for the rest of the season.

I know some kids will get away with playing with the soft pads, but they aren't made to take a crosscheck gone wild. As a coach, if I saw you playing with those soft pads, I'd be asking your parents to go get some basic fiber rib pads and KISS.

My kid had the max-lax one-piece - looks really good, but protects really crappy. He now uses the old-school white kidney pads with the extra long spine fiber.

Those Stx Shockers? Those aren't soft they are the hard shell with padding on both sides.

The STX shockers are essentially the same as the plastic STX ones except that they have extra padding on the inside and are all held together by the nylon covering on the outside. A bit heavier, but way more protective and comfortable to wear.

Yes, in looking the Shockers seem OK. I was referring to the field pads that do not have the hard plastic. If you are playing box make sure there is hard plastic.
