my school is finally starting a team, our club team has won about 3 games in 3 seasons, so i wanted to know if you gus had any suggestions about making us better. I know practice is good but how can i convince the coach to put the right players in? and how can i motivate my teammates to actually try?

first few weeks of practice, just whole team goes to wall. then get stick skills good then worry about set ups, and plays and all that mumbo jumbo.

dont skimp on the basics, right hand/left hand, scooping, cradling, switching hands, and some simple dodges, and checking

I think it is just about 90% coach dependent. If you've got the right coach in place, your team will improve. Last year was our program's first season, and we went 7-11. Not bad for a first year team. Our coaches were products of the Catholic League (UD Jesuit and St. Mary's), and very young (19 and 20 yrs old). This way, they both knew the game very well, and were young enough to coach on an almost player-to-player level. They encouraged the want to get better, and it showed. Also, because our head coach went to UD Jesuit, their head coach (Erik Foust) has offered to coach some practice in the offseason.

Because of this, not only to we have great coaches, but in the offseason we get experience by one of the state's best coaches at one of the most talented programs in Michigan. It makes the players want to get better, because they know they have the resources to get better.

In your case, you have a coach already in place, so it's his job to motivate the players. In order to win, you must believe you can. Like a2lax said, just get on the wall, but do it between now and the start of the season. Get the entire team to buy into the system, and work on their skills NOW. That way, by the time Spring rolls around, you can get right into formations and making your team good. With my experiences, we had a week or two of catching and throwing at the beginning of the season, and it took us until the second half of the season to get into a groove.

Other than, making yourselves good and building confidence, see if you can get the team to go to a few college/pro games before the season starts. Tell them that 'this' is how lax is really played.

ya, my high school had an amazing coach. with the majority of our players starting to play as freshmen, by seniors we have very good seasons. last year it was around 17-2. if you cant get a great coach, have players attend some camps or indoor leagues/clinics. they have some great coaches at those.

champion lacrosse has the old birmingham seaholm coach and hes pretty good. knows everything about lacrosse
