The Young Dubliners are a good rock band with a slight Irish sound although I am not sure if they are from Ireland or have Irish heritage. The Pouges are a very good band with an Irish sound although their lineup is different from when it started they are still an exceedingly awesome band. We can not forget Van Morrison he is not really a band but he rocks and he is from Ireland.

What exactly classifies as irish rock? Band members being from Ireland? Or is it a genre?

i'm with you about flogging molly, they totally rock. unfortunately, they'res not a whole lot of good irish rock out there. i would go with the pogues or the young dubliners. if you're interested in slightly more traditional irish music, i would recommend either the dubliners (one of my favorite bands of all time) or the clancy brothers. it's not exactly "rock" so to speak, but some darn good drinking songs

like rock mixed with traditional irish folk music. bagpipes, fiddles, acordians, etc. i'm a sucker for a song with a mean fiddle

haha you put good and irish rock in the same sentence. good irish drinking songs is diffrent. im not a fan of all the ra ra and grungy sounding guitars but the bagpipes are way sweet!!
