Clarington would have to release all those players to Whitby. Is this something they do regularly? Most club are very reluctant to release players.

KnightsLaxDad,

Does a miget aged player need a release to play on a Jr "A" team, in another organization, as an underager?

Midget aged players play on Jr "A" teams quite frequently. It happens in hockey a lot more, but check at roster or two and you will see a few "underage" players.

I'm surprised that they (Oshawa Generals) let little Johnny T play lacrosse at all.

KnightsLaxDad,

Does a miget aged player need a release to play on a Jr "A" team, in another organization, as an underager?

Good question. In general, an underage player can play "up" in age divisions within the same club. After certain number of callups, the player then has to stay up and cannot go back (don't know what the number is though).

Where it gets tricky is that Jr A/B teams are usually separate organizations from the minor clubs, even though they share the same name. I don't know offhand what the rules are about calling up players from a minor to junior team. If I had to guess, there is an "official" release between minor and junior clubs although it is understood and is not questioned, it just happens. I would think that there would definitely have to be a release if the Junior club is "different" from the minor club.

Rockstar or Roadies might be able to answer better than I can.

It is a wee bit complicated, but this out to clear things up: (scroll waaaaay down to find the eligibility, affiliation & minor regulations)

OLA by-laws & rules:

http://www.ontariolacrosse.com/documents/content_82.pdf

Basically, as I understand it:

Each Jr A club can be affiliated with a local minor association and a junior B team. Each junior B team can be affiliated with two minor associations.

R6.32(a)
Once a player has signed a Junior certificate and it has been approved by the Ontario Lacrosse Association, the team having signed him will retain the rights to his services until he is released unless he has been signed on the privilege of conditional release recognized by the Corporation or the player was signed to a Junior playing certificate while still a Midget age player.

R7.07(a)
Providing he has the written consent of his team, a player signed with an
Intermediate or Midget team may play in a higher series with a team affiliated with his own. He may play an unlimited number of games during the higher category team's regular season. (see regulation MR 5.05)

R8.01(a)
A player who is a signed member of a Senior, Junior, Intermediate or Midget team not affiliated with a club in a higher category may play exhibition games and not more than seven league (not playoffs) games for teams higher in category, providing he has written permission from the authorized officer of the teams for which he has signed. (See Regulation MR5.08)

R8.01(b)
A player signed with an unaffiliated team who does have the written permission of the team for which he has signed may play in as many higher categories as he wishes but shall not play for more than one team in any one higher category, and shall not play more than a total of seven league games in the higher categories, nor shall he play in any playoff game for any team other than the one with which he is signed. (See Regulation MR5.09)

R8.02
No player shall be permitted to return to the team with which he has signed in the lower series if he plays more than seven league games in higher categories; nor shall he be permitted to sign in the higher series unless unconditionally released, the player becomes subject to all other regulations applicable to signing certificates or qualifying to play for a team. (See Regulation MR5.10)

First-year midget for Clarington. I play offensive-transition, generally play the top.

In field I play center midfielder for Donevan (high-school), for anyone in the area.

omg. . conrad. . he used to be a stellar goalie. . hes actually has a mental disability, im drawing a blank on what it is, he just walked out on us one game during field lacrosse, thats not the first time he has done that. . hes a real meat head some times. and as for tavares. . hes just a child super star. . although the early ohl appearence is kind of crazy because, he is not that much better than the top 10 ranked kids in this years draft, he should have just done what hes done for years like a good 10 or 15 other kids did this year and played major midget aaa.

OFF TOPIC:

"he is not that much better than the top 10 ranked kids in this years draft"

Oh yes he is. Make no mistake about it, the kid is that good. Watch the Gens build a team around him for the next 4 years and pull in a Memorial Cup or two. No kidding.
