HS Letters. You get them for playing a varisty sport in HS. And you put them on a letterman jacket like so.

At my school you only get 1. And then you get pins to put in the letter itself.

In my school, if you want a letter you have to do more than one sport, at least, and several clubs and activities to even have a chance at getting one. Pretty sad because all the nerdy kids who do the clubs have letters and all the football players don't. There's a way around it if you sign up for clubs and go to a few meetings you could get one, but it's all based on points. Each club and activity is a certain number and each sport is usually like 15 or 20. You have to have 100 before you get a letter so if you only do sports, it will take you a year or two, or maybe even four. Needless to say, it's not something people care about in my school because they know it's a joke. Most schools hand them out just for playing a varsity sport, here, you have to play and do clubs or another sport to even have a chance at one. So no, I don't have one, but I will next year I believe. I better get one as a senior gosh darn it. I will have played varsity lax for 4 years and tennis for 2 and some different clubs.

I got mine for lacrosse freshman year. If you're on a varsity team at our school you get one, however, I'm not sure if they're given out for academics.

I got mine freshmen year for lax, then every year following (at least so far) i've gotten a star (meaning i lettered again in lacrosse) And i better letter this year... the lacrosse team has a point system of its own. 1 point for ground ball, 2 for goalls and assist, 2 for every shot a keeper stopps. Theres a whole list.
But year, my lettermen jacket is pretty fly... Got the "C" on the sleve.. Yall know whats up.

Couldnt of said it better myself. Everywhere you look theres letter jackets. Only 10% of them actually play sports or worked hard enough to deserve it. I really didnt care until last I learned you dont even have to be eligble to get a letter in band. Theyre just giving them out like crazy.
Freshman year for lax. Another this year.

at my school it is kind of weird we have freshman, jv, and varsity teams and they give out one letter freshman year if you play a sport and then when you make varsity you get a completly different letter.

I got one this year (frosh) for XC and wrestling and I am supposed to get mine for lacrosse too. Our colors are green and orange so one sport letter=orange (the letter is orange). 2=gray, 3= white.
