This is probably a longshot but figure this is the best forum to ask.

Like Wheelax, I have a boxla itch that needs scratching. Problem is of course I'm way down here in the DC area with no access to Canada period. I know the BILL exists, I found their website, as basic as it is but there is little info as far updates are concerned, and the next best google could offer was the e-lacrosse article on this seasons championship game. I was looking to find one of the lower tier teams as I figure it's my best shot and a DC team was listed but no contact info (edit I think that wasan old screen as I can't seem to find it anymore).

So, any B/W metro (or outlying areas) know anything else? Or am I just off on my own here.

Crazy--I just moved from Germantown, MD, to the Philly area...when I was down there, I was never really able to get a lot of info on the Baltimore league--still trying, in fact. Anyhow, there is another alternative...the Sports Network in Manassas, VA...albeit not a real box league, it's at least close. They play Saturdays, from about 10a to 1p...they typically have plenty of room for walk-ons. It's about one hour from Germantown--here's the website: www.sports-network.com
If you need any other info, let me know...

Side note: I've heard a rumor that there's a pickup league that plays in B-more on Friday nights...but I haven't been able to confirm that.

I think if you go on the Dewalt lax site, or any other teams, you might find some more info.. I'll look.. also, I think they're sponsored by Lax_world, and I think that if you contact them, you might get some more info.. are you anywhere near their Timonium store?? Is that what it's called?

Indoor pick up game wise my options the Rockville Sportsplex, and it's similar to the Manassas thing which I've looked into before. I'm interested in BILL because it's way closer to box (though still not true box) and because I work out of Columbia, so commuting to games in Canton after work would be a snap (and keep me awake towards the end of the day). Did some more digging and Baltimore Fire runs a team, I've played against them a few times this Spring/Summer and they're always looking for guys whether they're firemen or not, plus they're more into the lets have fun then go tot the bar mentallity type team I'm looking for then the top-tier teams I have no business trying out for, such as Dewalt( I know people say don't sell yourself short but Dewalt is a pretty lofty goal and I'd rather start small), the Fire seem more reasonable though they're websites old so I'll have to take a stab at seeing if the contact info is still good.

Timonium is a bit of a stretch for me, as well as the Hereford Team (previously Dr. Laxx who are all cool guys but is quite a hike).

this is actually just about the closest thing to real box this side of canada.. many ex and current NLL players play in the BILL.. all the rules are pretty much the same..

Even better, I must have heard differently.

yeah, if you look at their all league team, it's almost a who's who.... a lot of the dewalt guys are ex-D1 players; I know some of the Smartlink guys are NLL players, and there are a few MLLers in the league as well..

If any of you find any contact info for the BILL (or anything else around that area or Philly) could ya let me know, too? Wanna get in front of as many shots as I possibly can before next year's Wings tryout!
Thanks!!!

Here's the link for Ballmer indoor;
http://www.sportability.com/spx/leagues/client.asp?ClientID=321
It resumes in Feb!
He can sign up as an individual.

My question with registering as an individual player is if it has team placement or if your still on your own. I may go through the steps up until payment is required to see what's what.

....many ex and current NLL players play in the BILL....

Do the seasons not overlap?? If so, how do they get away with play in both?

I only ask because I heard a rumour that a current pro was barred from playing in a local winter rec league in Ontario.

(Bear in mind that I don't even know for sure that this is true, and I suppose that it might have been a policy of his team, and not necessarily the NLL)

It has more than one season according to the site. Fall which was Sept through Nov just concluded, and then a February Season is starting up for Winter.

This will be the first time that the BILL has played during this part of the year. Traditionally, it has been a tunr-up league for the Pros. I am the cpoach for the DeWalt Lacrosse Club and many of our players are former pro box players, some back in the old MILL days...

oh.. I will.. I need to find a job.. my sister is transferring to JHU for a masters program.. she wants to move back from San Diego... (I think she's nuts, but whatever).. she needs a roommate, so I figure, what the hell..

anyway.. this could put a serious hold on starting that new program, but I could make an appearance on a BILL team..

Wheel...

Are you coming to the DC area or Baltimore?? JHU is in Baltimore but they have a campus in Montgomery County which is near DC.

Royce...

You and I need to compare notes. Box needs to get organized in this area AGAIN. It used to be back when the MABLL was in play but has fallen off due to lack of organization.

Yeah sure thing, I'm all for comparing notes. My dad was telling me the other night how he used to go watch the indoor teams in the 70s beat each other up and down the Cap Center...which definately explains why he was always more into seeing Thunder/Power games as opposed to my field games...

And the JHU campus in MoCo offers almost as much as the main in terms of graduate work, I'm thinking of jumping into a program to become an ESOL teacher there to jumpstart my plan of becoming a teacher.

Well....with an ESOL cert., you'll have a job for life. I am a teacher in Fairfax County.

Your dad is talking about the OLD NLL back from the early 70's. I don't know if you guys have very seen this site. http://www.nlllacrosse.com/

Check it out...

Apparently my dad got comp tickets all the time while he was in the US Navy Band.

Guys,

FYI.....

We are making a big push to get the league in Manassas under player control. It has dwindled for years because Sports Network has no lacrosse connections. We were down to a low of 5 teams this past session.

We are proposing to re-ignite the Metro Area Box Lacrosse League (MABLL). A proposal has been sent to SN for the time and space rental. I have started to develop a website for the league (www.fairfaxfallbrawl.com/mabllweb/index.htm is the temp site while under construction) and we are sharing ideas.

Please contac me at boxlaxman@yahoo.com and I will get you involved and send you the propsed budget, etc. This league is designed to be run by a Board of Governors in a non-profit setting.

Lets bring Box back to the DC area....

Folks,

So that you know, the site is down for revamping, a server change, and should be back up in a few weeks, complete with 70's multimedia.

Hey Royce,
You'll get to see what your Dad was talking about. I've got Arrows footage from the Cap, off of an old 8mm reel, ready for the net.

And boxlaxman, thanks for the plug my friend.

Until then,
Dave

Trying to do the same in Australia so that a better team can be fielded at next years WILC.

Your site looks good. Good luck with your league.
