I just bought a Nitrous head on an Ignite shaft for my son. He is 12 and has been playing for 2 years. The shaft is very light and I do not think a 12 year old will dent it. By the time he can, it will be time for an upgrade anyway.
I am also looking for shoulder pads and elbow pads. Don't really want to spend $75 on Hitmans. Looking for something a little less expensive.
For elbow pads I am looking at the Warrior MPG's.
Any Thoughts ?

Warrior Mpg 4.0s are good shoulder pads. And for armguards i like the stx fusion Ags. You can find them both on www.lax.com

Another good elbow pad is the Warrior MPG 5.0's. I have been using them for 3 years.

No, they do not throw massive checks at this age, but sometimes one of the kids gets lucky. Looking for both protection and flexability. Thanks to all who have responded so far.

well I got new hitman's for x-mas but before that I had used just stx exo's and they worked for middle school. I would suggest going with some of these pads from www.laxzilla.com or www.lacrosse.com (laxzilla's got this nice thing they call "product face off" that lets you compare differnt pads side by side)
I found these in the 30-50 dollar range:
-warrior mpg sp 4.0
-brine spartan sp
-gait flare sp
-stx stinger sp
now I dont know you sons company preference's, but I tend to like Warrior and Gait gear better then Brine or stx but you can check out any of that stuff yourself and decide with your son whats best for him.
as for elbow pads, I would strongly recommend either the warrior mpg's like you stated or the brine ventilator X's both are very flexible and protective for mid/attack, i'm assuming you son doesnt play D, but if he does. check out the review colt just posted on harrows elbow guards.
overall goodluck with your search. and I hope you found this helpfull
