A helmet might help. Also some refs require athletic cups.

Yea, a helmet is a good idea. I've never heard of refs requiring athletic cups, but, by God, please wear one.

mouthguards are more important than you think, we had a kid split his top lip open from not wearing a mouth guard bcz he also had braces.

anyways armpads and rib pads aren't necessary??

armpads are...ribpads arent

helmet
gloves
arm pads- small ones are debeer flares
shoulder pads- smallest i think are brine spartan cores
cups arent required
rib pads arent required
mouth guard is but i barely keep mine in(just sorta hangs out of my mouth)cuz i find it harder to breathe with it in :P

yeah we get called for our goalie having his out. and alot of times for it just "hanging there"

and actually if you actually wear it you will get used to it.

You dont boil them!? Thats bad for your teeth isnt it? Anyways i got my mom to boil it and i just bit it. Pretty simple, just feels like a retainer now. The gag feeling drives me crazy at the beginning of the season.

actually you dont need full shoulder pads. I believe you only need a pad that will cover your clavical (collar bone). Im not entirely sure on this though. And you dont need arm guards. All that is manditory is a helmet, gloves, mouth piece, and i believe something to cover your collar bone??

im telling you if you want small shoulder pads look at the brine spartan core.
