a cheat strig you put at the bottom when you string mesh it allows you to put a bigger pocket and when a reff asks you to check it you pull it and make it legel

That is called the bottom string and you have to use one. Unless you string the sidewall all the way around the stick.

pull strings.
use a piece of shooting string just like you would a bottom string. or when u are stringen a bottom string with the regular string.
tie a not at the end of the string then tie another knot about 1.5 inches down(enuf to get ur finger in thier with gloves on) after you tied another knot put the string throught the bottom string hole then loop in around and put it through again.
then string the rest of the bottom string the same way. ive used for a few years. havnt goten busted yet and my coach refs Mll and ncaa.

do you just mean a really long bottom string and then you scrunch up the mesh before the check and hope it tightens enough, or is there actually a technique to making the string stick where you pull it? anyway, I make borderline legal pockets with the bottom string pulled all the way tight, so I see no need for this, but I'm interested in any way to cheat still.

Anyway, you could use two pairs of knots. The ones could be smaller so you could pull the strings through the holes with the knots. They don't need to be too big though because you still have to last through the stick check. Then just have a larger set of knots that can't slip through the bottom holes. When you get your stick back, just pull the mesh to pull the small knots back through.

this is an ingenious idea. i never thought of making smaller knot that can fit through the holes so it stays that way.

yes. I do, It's just really hard to explain without pics..

use it in the bottom of your mesh.. tie a knot on a small piece of string. put the string through the second hole from the left if you are looking at the back of the head. pull it through to the knot. weave the string through your mesh. .. then string it back through the bottom of the head through the third hole.. then instead of tying it off, loop the end of the string to the inside of the fourth hole, then tie it off..

It depends on the diameter of the stringing hole and the actually string itself.

I admit, I'm not the cleanest player. I'll take dives on groundballs for a free possession...thats bending the rules (haha, they also taught us to do that at Millon-Long Island kids are scum). But the bottom string trick is just blatant. Learn to use a legal pocket-its not too hard.

most of my pockets are legal, but just in case they stretch during a game, i have one. look at wheelax's pic above. i use a piece of an old leather.

i have a question about this... i use this technique also, but my sticks never illegal even if i do it (for being to deep). however, can you get in trouble even if its legal because of having a big hole there? i've heard different things and now its a gray area to me

no, and you shouldn't have a big hole there.. string your bottom string down further on your mesh..

and there's nothing wrong with having a gap there unless it keeps the ball from rolling out, etc..

"They know how to get away with things"...Yeah, if you crosscheck a kid in the back and the ref doesn't see it, it's definitely a clean, legal hit. That's a very very crappy perspective of playing lacrosse.

I also felt that the LI kids were scum because even though this was a camp based in Long Island, having some of the better schools with kids going to it (Smithtown, Manhasset, Huntington, etc.), they still acted extremely stuck up about their playing ability, yet the best players ended up being kids outside of New York (a kid from Brother Rice, a few kids from Michigan, a few from PA, and a few from MA). It's a dead fact that NY has the best crop of lacrosse players in the country, but that doesn't mean that there are just as many poorly skilled players in NY, too. A lot of the kids acted like they were God's gift to the sport of lacrosse, would pull cheap shots, and then complain about harder/questionable hits that they received.

Can't you just use a really thick bottom string? My coach at millon said all he did was use a really thick piece of sidewall and pulled on the strings before his stick was checked.

My Answer came factory strung with a cheat string. I don't really like for my pocket to be too much of a bag, so I ended up tying it off to make a (consistently) legal pocket.

those little clasp things on the strings of warrior gloves work well. if you knot one end of your bottom string and put it through one hole of the clasp...weave it through and make ur string however u wantr to get desired pocket depth...then put it through the other hole in the clasp, and knot it...all you have to do is pull the string tight when a ref checks ur stick, and since the clasp holds the string in place, it seems liek you have a legal pocket....then just loosen it again before you start playing....

A kid on my team tried to do this ealier in the season but he didnt do it right at all when he pulled the bottom string the pocket got to tight at the bottom and would get stuck. needless to say he ran many a lap for his stupidity. but i am not completely innocent either my freshman year i used one til a ref i am family friends with told me he let it go just cause it was a jv game but he would call it next time. so now i am a good lil laxer and use a good legal pocket....til indoor starts up

On my corner pocket the leathers can be used as "Cheat Strings" but I never used them to that extent. But im not gonna lie onetime my pocket was illegal and i tightened em when i noticed and thank god because afterward my head was checked (No one stripped the ball even tho they should have). The refs didnt really notice the leathers and i was all set. I wouldn't just do it all the time tho..its lame.

how about you guys learn to just keep your head in the game and not about your pocket. You don't want to be standing in the middle of the field making your pocket legal and pointing out to every one that you should be called for a penalty. So just string your pocket without a cheat string.

Not meaning to steal your thunder but most players who play with sticks like this will pull the strings after each goal, and each quarter. This is the o nly time your stick will be checked usually. After it is apparent the ref is not calling for a stick check they beat the pocket back out and are good to go.

all hes doing is progressing defensemen and making them work harder. so technically it shouldnt really be "cheating", but "progressing" the sport. i dont see the point but w/e

usually i dont even get a chance to try and pull and it cause they walk right over to you but my stick us legal so its not a problem
