My Coach asks you to play with the time all year round and if you do then you're on the varsity squad we don't have try-outs, and its the same if your a freshmen lyk i got asked to play with them in summer leauge and fall ball and winter so im on varsity, but sum1 in a different thread as a freshmen they wouldn't want to be on varsity and to me that doesn't make sense sinse you can start JV and Freshmen lax games so really you have expeirence when you hope the field for varsity. so srry for goi off topic but how goes your coach select your team??

Our coach has try outs. We only have a varsity team, no JV. Also if they do not have a lot of people try out, then everyone who trys out makes the team.

3 teams: JV, Freshman, Varsity

JV has to run 4 miles in 36 minutes. Varsity has to in 30-32 minutes.

Varsity also needs to be completely fluent with both hands.

In general, upper classmen will be taken over under classmen, but skill level is a first priority.

Thats a lot of running what school in mass do you go to? Umm well its the best players but our coach kinda has most of the team picked before the season even starts.

The people who get the job done in tryouts and the first few games, get varisty. Good conditioning is more of a necessity than a test.

we dont have tryouts. our coach just kind of decides who is on varsity. we have a lot of preseason stuff so that pretty much decides it

straight tryouts, the coaches have an idea as who they want to take, but if you screw up in tryouts you dont make it, near the end of the season the coaches will move up any jv players who did really well during the season bc jv ends before varsity does

hmm....all of a sudden our 3 miles doesnt seem so bad.

our varsity team is selected by tryouts. the best players make it. normally its the best of the juniors and seniors that make it, and theres always underclassman that try out, and theres usually only one or two that make it. anyways, talent makes the team, and talent plays. Once ur on one of our teams (freshman, jv, varsity) ur on. theres no moving or anything. our varsity team is the smallest. you generally have an idea of whos going to be on it, but nothings written in stone.

the first two weeks everyone practices together, then varsity and jv are seperated, its not so much tryouts as selective practices

Our school does tryouts.

Anyone think it might be easier to make Varsity as a defensemen considering there aren't as many players as attack and middie. There's only 5 defenders in my whole town. I'd say only two of us are really varsity material. And sorry to go off topic but I didn't feel this was a big enough question to make an entire thread

the enitire team gets into one big fight and the guys who come out alive are varsity

^Hahaha, that would be awesome.

Our team they sort of make decisions based on your performance in the preseason, and then there are regular tryouts.

one team. it'd be consdered varsity, but it's still not a sanctioned team. the best/most experienced players play. if you show up, you're on the team, but your time depends on your skill

Our coach just watches us during winter work-outs. That's also how he picks starters.

Winter lacrosse, basically has teams piccked out. Then formal tryout, which I guess is where underclassmen get oppurtunities. we have freshman, JV, Varsity. Im a freshman but wont be on freshman, caz we have a ton of new players who are freshman who will cover that team. Im guessing JV, maybe 3-4th line varsity.

Our team does fall/winter programs down in Trumbull (CT) where our coach usually can see you play.

We do have try-outs, but they are more like practices where our caoch has more oportunities to evaluate guys. But anyways, he usually has the team semi-picked before the season starts.

But honestly the best way to pick a varsity team is to take everyone that wants to play and have a royal rumble and who come out alive. Get to be varsity!!!!!!!!!!!

Well my School has a Varsity, JV, and Freshmen team and basically the Coaches pick thier teams like this. They go to Indoor Games and watch players. Then we have Try-Outs later in the year, they pick the best skilled and fit players. Freshmen can make JV and Varsity but it rarely happens.

ya, ti's all by talent....im palying for a new team this year so i cant say exactly but in the past it's been jsut whoever's the best(good attitudes also) none of my coaches have ever hesitated to bench a hot ehad even if he does score 10 goals a game.....w/ defense it's priority of who's the best, but then after that all of the defense has to be very close knit(including goalie), even outside of practice he encourages them to stay together(thats the entire team, but maybe it's just cause i play D it seems like there's more emphasis there)

legally seniors can't play on jv in jersey our our league or sumthing, so our varsity is seniors and most juniors unless you really suck and then really good sophs, and then theres freshman. coaches aren't allowed to go to our captains practices during preseason so basically we have a two-three day tryout for varsity and jv. everyone practices friday and saturday and then the coach asks prospective varsity to come back sunday, its a good deal so you have a whole day to cry on sunday if you didnt get asked back

laxwarrior26

since not a lot of games play in indiana (on 23 teams) our coach just watches us play during the first few weeks of practice and then makes a decision. captains are picked by the seniors and then the rest o the team

At my school we have preseason conditioning then tryouts actually start when season does. It's mostly based on talent, but you have to show dedication as well... you can't be skipping preseason and tryout pratices, or any practice for that matter. There are supposed to be two jv teams , a & b but it's kind of like one big jv that gets split up for games. People can move up or down, you gotta keep up your work and your game. Although we do have fights during season after teams are made, but that's a different story...

okay my school has a very small amount of people. 9th grade plays all varsity because we're not allowed to play jv. 8th grade plays both varsity and jv except for the really really good and the really really bad. 7th plays jv except for the really really good. those who are really good normally overlap, but sometimes they'll just play all varsity (very rarely. and it also depends on how much playing time they get on varsity.) school only goes through ninth grade
and the high school team i'm playing for was just started last year (club team) so there isn't varsity or jv or anything.

Ours is pretty common. 9th, jv, and varsity.
freshmen on are on 9th grade, really good freshmen, sophmores, and lesser? juniors are on jv.

then varsity is a mix of really good sophmores, juniors, and seniors.

problems with moving up, you dont get much play time, even if your amazing. they tend to give more time for upperclassmen. we have try outs for varsity, but really if you a senior you get it, if your a junior you get it, if you really good as a sophmore you get it, and freshmen dont have much of a chance.

freshman jv and varsity
andd sophs juniors and seniors have tryouts
a couple freshman tried out but only our goalie got moved up cuz hes already egtting looked at by colleges
they wanted to keep all the freshamn together cuz i guesstheyreexpecting us to get us a state championship
us freshman were better then the jv

freshman are usually on the 9th grade team by default...acceptional freshman are on jv and really really acceptional freshman are on varsity...jv is juniors and sophmores and varsity is seniors and acceptional juniors and really acceptional sophmores. We have about a week of try-outs, i thnk about 2 hour sessions or more if i remember from last year. We basically run drills and stuff since there's usually snow out and we are in a parking lot unless we are lucky and rent out an indoor place for a few days and we get timed runs and stuff

only have a varsity team, so everyone makes it. Wish we had two teams becuase we have a large roster (35 players, which is the biggest by league rules). If we get another coach, which im not stating that there is a coup being made by the league against our young coach (too young), but then we may have a j.v./varsity team where skills would probably be the deciding factor.

tryouts and the best players make varsity or the players whose parents donate a lot of money(politics) make the team

sthlaxman40

The players who have played for a while or show lots of athleticism in practice play varsity. The new players or people who suck play on junior varsity.

Our coach devotes the winter sports season to pre season lacrosse and we condition, work on stick skills, agilities, lifting and we go play indoor every thursday. only pre season players can be on varsity.

01-01-2006, 10:44 PM
hmmm well we do winter leagues that are coach goes to watch us...we also do the lifting/running/captains practices...i figure thats when they have a general idea of whose gonna make it....then we have a week or 2 of tryouts starting with a run of about 2-3 miles going into a practice...at the end they line u up outside a classroom and either ur cut or u made it mostly based on skill...but if there low on a position they'll just take ppl.

My school..- Varsity
Best Players get picked... and all returning from past varsity years no question-
Open positions my coach owns a gym so if he see's people busting ***.. then he'll take that in consideration come tryouts then see the improvment. Then tryouts are basic righty lefty shooting and passing fluent... Bascally the people that are on varsity can shoot pass catch about 95 % with each hand. The program will be at it's peak this year and the next.

ok its pretty simple with my school, all the returning players are on varsity, then everyone practices togather for the first week and the players that dont totally blow are given a shot at varsity the rest are on JV

JerseyD540

we have fairly big lacrosse team with quite a few volunteer parents who coach us essentially the entire offseason when our coaches are not allowed to. Naturally returning varsity players will be with varsity on the first day of practice. The next group so to say are the players who stuck out in the minds of our winter league coaches. They practice with a varsity for a few days and either move down to JV or stay up. Any JV or freshman player can move up to varsity if they show they deserve it, or are needed to fill roster spots due to injuries, the case late my freshman year.
