Alrighty, so my story, i travel 150 miles to play lacrosse, and i have to leave school and my friends to play. During the lacrosse season I hang out at a firestation where my dad works, ( he already travels that far to work every shift) and so basically playing over in this city works out good, but i have a social life here that gets trashed basically every lax season. My dad is assistant coach on my team and is very commited. Last year i started getting depressed every time i had to leave my hometown to go play. I had to lay around sometimes for 3 days just for a 2 hour practice ( this is middle school lacrosse), I do have schooling, but it's like the most boring thing ever until i get to practice. So this year i was thinking about just playing lacrosse for fun. I would hit the wall and practice everyday liek usual i just wouldn't be playing on a 'competitive' team. I just told my dad my thoughts and how i think i would be happier just doing this, and there is a guy here starting a team so i would get to play, even though the skill level would be bad. I mean, i love lacrosse with a passion, but i just don't think i want to leave all my friends and basically my life for a sport. Idk, I just wanna be happy and i don't want to be depressed over 8th grade lacrosse. Idk why im even posting this.. Just tell me your opinions on playing lacrosse for joy instead of competition.

You know what I think man? I think that you should play 8th grade lacrosse at whatever level you want to play at. Colleges don't even look at middle school lacrosse players or your records or anything. All that matters is highschool. have fun while you still can dude. Because life really is short, and to piss it away is the greatest sin.

Friends are very important. Especially good friends. And being HAPPy is probably the most important. Do what makes you happy--that's the best route for you.

Know what bro? I had to live in a place i didnt really like as much for three years...the only thing i really liked there was lax. Now i moved back to where i wanna be and i love it. I love my friends, and i still have lax here. My advice...stay home and hit the wall. Enjoy your time with your friends...dont leave them. trust me

thanks guys. This sport means so much to me and i just wanna have fun with it, and being depressed isn't really my idea of fun lol, my dads pissing me off, he's like " YOUR NOT A LACROSSE PLAYER IF U DON'T PLAY THE SPORT." it's almost like he's trying to live my life for me and it's making me mad lol, thanks for your help.

Yea, noone should have to travel that far for any sport. Just stay at home and enjoy yourself. There are more important things in life than lax. Tell your dad that you love lax but don't love the commute.
i'm assuming you live in seattle, since that what your location says... Why are you traveling 150 miles when there are most likely a couple middle school teams in seattle, and i know for a fact that there are 4 in the tacoma area?

I just moved, so i know what it's like to be away from your friends. You really don't know what you have till it's gone. Just stay where you are, be happy, don't worry.

personally im about equal with my joy/competetiveness(sp?)
parts of my joy are my competetiveness
just me
I couldn't handle that. Don't get burned out like that. I got burned out late in my career, 11th grade, and odds are that 12th grade is my last. Which is fine. I used to want to be like, college all the way, but I'm gaining perspective. Never let a sport dominate your life. Never. Take it easy, and even if you don't play, that's all right. You're gonna kill yourself on this sport and that's not a smart choice, especially at age 13.

I travel 2 hours to play and practice for junior lacrosse in ontario. I, however, have a driver's liscence so it's not too bad but my school marks started to slip pretty bad last year because of the traveling. I'd be gettting home at 1:30 in the morning sometimes and then getting up for school at 7. But, it's what I love to do so I keep on doing it.
For you though, you're 13 and it's just not worth the hassle.

ya dude, im in 8th grade, and luckily for me i live 5 minutes away from an indoor lax place
i think ur friends r more important than 8 th grade lax and maybe u can get ur friends to play
then maybe in hs u can play a lil farther away
even though u might play on a bad team u can still develop skills for higher lvl play
ive played on house league baseball teams, the teams i played were so bad i got 4 homeruns off groundballs in the same game
but i learned the skills
i was great in the house league and showed great potential
now i play on a travel team and still can hit homeruns and i excel even though i didnt have a competitive past
wow a long post for a guy who doesnt know y he made a thread LOL
though all in all HAVE FUN!

Yea at 8th grade you really shouldn't be worried about colleges looking at you. Even where your in high school colleges dont really get intrested in you until your a junior unless you are that best player to ever pick up a stick. I'd worry more about your friends than college recruiting at this point
