Hey, im a sophmore in high school, up here in WNY (Buffalo, NY where were known to have top teams) and im a dpole on varsity (first freshmen in school history to be on varsity last year and gonna be on this year, not to brag but im good) and i just got a letter from a college today from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, and said they were really interested in me, and have a good chance of going there for being a scholar athlete and being good at lax. Should i be worrying about all this stuff this early, and is there anything i can do extra for this coming lax season in the spring to make my chances even higher. I'm probably going to be a captain this year, and colleges are probably going to be watching my games this year. Is there anything extra i can do to increase my chances and standing out. One of my guesses would be to just be a leader in the locker room and on the field? Thanks a ton guys.

St. John Fisher (D3)... If you're as good as you say you are, you should be expecting better (not only from the Roc area, but from other places). At least if you're going to go Rochester area shoot for somewhere like Naz (okay, that's a really good D3 lax school but still, aim high).

Either way, you're young and early in the process. Right now you should be focusing on school and high school lacrosse. Start looking into colleges, but don't expect too many things. Right now there's not much you can do, all colleges can really do is not much more then send those standardized letters that everyone gets. So for now, get some ideas of where you might want to go to school, whether they have lax or not. If you're interested in playing lax in college, you need to expose yourself. I.E., go to tournaments, camps, anywhere that has coaches attending that you might be interested in applying to.

But really, right now, you need to be focused on getting better and keeping the grades up. You won't see much college action until junior year. That is when it gets fun. College coaches focus on the seniors to be, then the juniors to be, and then if they have spare time, the rest of the people. They can't really contact you, plus you're still young. So while they might watch you, no one will really show too much interest in you until they can really see some grades and skills. Keep up the good work, but don't get too wrapped up in this college thing. Your time will happen, don't rush it, but don't avoid it.

Yea thats wat i said, im still a sophmore, and my friend who is at mars hill and the other at 'cuse said im better than d3 definately. im still a sophmore so i still have 3 years to develop. But thakn you to all you guys for this imput.

NCAA rules prohibit colleges from mailing you til 9/1 of your jr year. Some smaller colleges will let some mail slip out, but top D1 programs wont mail you til then. They may send you generic admissions stuff on and off.

You can always e-mail college coaches. I would do that after your season this year, alert them to your bio- grades, season results, your 2006 awards, and your summer camp schedule.

If you are a 3-4 year starter in Western NY, I would assume you can play D1 somwhere. Make sure you have good grades. Nothing happens your SR year, its all over before then.

i mean bad d3 schools try and bait u early if ur good, sophmores dont get alot of letters until they go to recruiting camps. coaches dotn generally come to watch hs games for a sophmore. d3 lacrosse is solid but its no where near d1, outside the top 5 d3 programs. also maybe they sent u a letter cuz they know ur not gunan b good enough for d1 and they just want to start early in recruiting you.

Its only D1 that has to wait until september 1st. A d2 or d3 school can send you a letter when ever they want to.

You guys are ridiculous... The fact that you are getting looks as a rising sophomore is pretty legit... Just keep yourself focused, keep working hard, and do well in school... everything else will work itself out if you are doing the right camps, etc

u should have someone tape all your games this year and put together a highlight reel along w/ all your stats and then mail it out to some of the good programs in college that u want to get in to. also u shouldnt be focused on college just yet. just work as hard as u can this year to get as good as u possibly can, then start worrying about college. also over the summer attend some camps that the college coaches run so youll get noticed. but as for now, just get as good as u possibly can, and dont forget about the highlight reel, it worked for my friend.
