any of u guys in here play drums? i need some help with drum sticks. my brother is a big fan of like mike portnoy , joey jordison, and neil peart so i was thinking about getting him some liek signature model sticks. neil pearts are promark 747 oak tipped sticks. mike portnoys are promark like 420 hickory sticks with nylon tips and then joey jordisons are from a company called Ahead. ive never heard of them but aparently its liek a composite drum stick so there leik the harrow of drum stick makers. its supposed to reduse vibration and such in your hand only they cost liek 3 times the amount of the wood ones. hes been playing for liek a year and hes really into drums so any help would be great cause i know nothing.

I would probably dish out a few extra bucks and get him the composite drum sticks. Those are supposed to be pretty sweet. However, in the end, a drum stick is a drum stick and expensive ones won't make you better, just like expensive lax stuff, so don't get to worked up about it.

I am assuming this is for xmas? How much are the composites? Because if they arent prohibitivley expensive, I would get those because one it would be cool to have them, two if he plays lacrosse he will probably appreciate it more, and three I would assume that they would last longer than wooden ones. But take all this with a grain of salt, because I don't play drums.

well, im a drummer and ive used both wood and composite both work well, but i think the composites are truelysweet. I LOVE composites with nylon tips. You should def. get him a pair.

I play drums as well and have used all kinds of sticks but here are a few of my favorites: Zildjian - DIP Drumsticks Nylon 5A, Vic Firth - 7A Nylon Tip American Classic Hickory Drum Sticks, Promark - Lightning Rods Drum Sticks, Ahead - 5B Rock Model Aluminum Drumsticks, Zildjian - 2B Anti-Vibe Drum Sticks Nylon.
These, imo, are some of the best sticks on the market. Consider some of them for your brother. One thing you should consider is what type of music he plays. Is it fast and loud or more of a jazz sound? Does he have lots of dents in his cymbals, or has he broken any of them. This helps when deciding on sticks

yo, if hes into marching percussion, then Ralph Hardiman, if hes into drumset, Vc Firth 5A (wood tipped good sound)
Anything Vic Firth is good, they usually make good sticks, just make sure that they are pitch paired, and weight paired :agree:
