Do you use Internet Explorer? If so, why?

As a web designer, this should be interesting since most of my statistics come from the web development community, where the majority of people do use FireFox.

I just started using FireFox about 3 days ago. So far it's been a lot better and for me, more user friendly.

Firefox is indeed alot safer than IE. I've heard the analogy that using IE is like having unprotected sex with a stranger. You just never know.

I would delete IE of my PC if my mum didn't need it to do her internet banking, Damm Non-Firefox compatible bank website.

There's a Firefox extension that changes the page from using FF to IE but the page stays inside the FF browser window. Though, i think you still need IE installed, it would allow you to use only the FF browser.

But without the fun.

I have MSIE on this computer, just because it's there, and because it's running W95, which is too old for Firefox.

I'm waiting for Firefox to be ported to the Apple //e.

Firefox for a while was just as unsafe as IE (moreso, I believe) until they released an update.
However, I despise IE, so I use Firefox. And being the loyal little girl that I am, I even use Firefox on the macs at the radio station, even though there's Safari, IE, and Firefox.

I looked into Opera, but last I checked they were still charging for the full version, so.

Anyone hear/surprised about IE for Macs being dropped?

Mother of god you get even better by the second. :worship:

Opera is now free, but I still love my extensions and themes.

No I'm not surprised at all. Of course MS will take its toys away when Jobs brings his own in.

Oh, about the difference between a headache an an orgasm.

kidding. Um.. I'd have to say that there isn't too big a difference. That is, if you were using IE (as you stated you are) and you decided to switch to Firefox, you wouldn't suffer any sort of shock. Instead of "Favorites" they're "bookmarks" (afterall, Firefox is essentially a pared down version of Netscape) and you get the nifty tabbing ability. Kind of like switching from manual transmission to automatic. PC to mac.
I rocked the analogies section of the SAT, can you tell?

You should deffinatly try opera, I used to use avant but it became sluggish at times. Opera pretty much is the same interface but faster.

I use Internet Exploder, but between my manipulation of IE's security settings, my soft firewall set to ULTRA PARANOID, and my Router firewall, I'm pretty safe. Even with IE's gaping security holes, and my occasional visits to bad-news (XXX, Warez, and Movie/Music Piracy) sites.

Why do I use IE even though I know it's a P.O.S.??? Because IE is embedded into windows, and you cannot completely remove it. Since it's there anyways, I might as well just use it rather than having a duplicate program that's really not much better.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter squat what you're using.....if a good hacker wants in, they're getting in (You're on the web, so Port 80 or equivalent is wide open!!!!)

OK, I'm going to try to address a few things here.

AOL is just as unsafe as IE.

Avent is just as unsafe as IE.

That yahoo browser is just as unsafe as IE.

I think the plethora of security issues on IE should be enough to convince anybody to switch.

Nah, makes sense. Honestly, people switch to Firefox (or, for a more severe change, macs) because it's been touted as the safe replacement for IE. However, macs and Firefox both have become hot picks for hackers, but because of the publicity they've recieved for being so stable, users have a false sense of security.
You can't just switch browsers or OS' just because it's supposedly safer and then fugeddaboutit. You still have to take the same preemptive steps as if you say, were using IE on Windows ME (though doing so is an exercise in extreme sado-masochism).

JoshM

Firefox is the safe replacement for IE. So is Opera. Opera isn't without it's security holes either, however.

Here's an example:

A couple of mistakes here;

Mac's don't, OSX is a very solid OS. And the new macs coming out are very powerful.

The web browser you use does matter.
For one, a browser such as firefox is much more usable than IE is.
And most importantly, security. Almost any browser that doesn't use IE's engine is going to be more secure. Therefore, the web browser you use is important.

Most universities nowadays do. Granted, they didn't remove IE as an option for use, so the technologically illiterate (like my former roommate... "liiiikkee, how do you add an attaaacchmeeeenntt!?11") don't spaz out in public, but it is preferred that Firefox is used, because it is more secure than IE.
