This is mainly for people who don't have kids already, but everyone feel free to join in. How do you feel about adoption? Would you ever do it? Why or why not?
Personally, I am probably going to adopt because while I would be thrilled to have a child that is actually mine, I would be afraid for that kid to get the bad attributes of me.

My ex fiance was infertile and we had talked about the possibility of adoption. I believe adoption is a very wonderful thing to do, regardless of the reasons for adopting. As a Christian I look to Joseph's acceptance of the baby Jesus as my model. In the ancient Jewish tradition, taking the child in and acknowledging it as your own, made it your own. I know that many people out there want children, but can't have them. Adoption is therefore a great option for people willing to stay the course. My only concern about adoption, and it is minor, is that people seem really willing to adopt children from abroad but don't look at American children. I would encourage anyone contemplating adoption to look close to home first. Good luck though.

I think the biggest issue is that most people really, really want to adopt babies.

Its way better than abortion.
Does anyone else think its stupid if a woman puts her child up for adoption she can change her mind years later and get her child back from the adoptive parents?

I think adoption is great, if one of the two parents are infertile. I personally want to have my own children, but if that's not possible, then I will definately adopt a child.

If I get married, and my wife is infertile, or I become infertile, I'd have no reservations against adopting a child or two. Teaching, coaching, wife, and kids will really be all I care about when I start getting older...

If you are asking about what I said about abortion, I meant that its better to put your child up for adoption then have an abortion.

Same here, but I think I'd rather have children of my own.

A problem with adopting American children is a possible legal battle later in life, when and if the birth parents decide they made the right choice. It happens. If you adopt from abroad, the chances of fighting the birth parents for custody is slim.
I'm for adoption, it doesn't matter where they are from.

Well, if you or your spouse are infertile and you want kids, you really have no choice.
Unless you pull an, Abraham (the one from the Bible, not the one who freed the slaves) and have kids with the maid because your wife couldn't have kids at the time for some reason.

You've all discussed infertility, but let's not forget others who adopt - single people (Angelina Jolie, anyone?) who want children, and homosexual couples.
Either way, I think adoption is a good idea. And that, extenuating circumstances withstanding, it is a better choice than abortion.
