Maryland supposedly had one of the best D the only game i saw was one where the D did not cut it though.
I think Hopkins has a pretty good D underated but fairly consistent.
Syracuse 's D really blew this year.
Go Hopkins

I think for men Maryland had one of the best defenses in the nation this year. I think they are loosing some of their players though so I'm not sure about next season.

Maryland should still be in the top 5 D's this year. There going to reload.

In 98 and 99 we used Princeton's defense. It was great. In 98 as a D2 school we beat all but one of the D1 schools we faced then in 99 we were ranked as high as #2 in D1 and we had our great defense to thank. It was pretty complicated and took a while to learn but once we knew it, good luck to any offence we faced.
I plan on teaching my team some day but for now they need there basics to improve. The school I played for has not been able to use the defense since 99 because not enough players can grasp it.

Up until that hopkins game, I would've said maryland. Now I'm leaning towards navy. I was really impressed with them at the maryland game. Not always the best stick skills, but when the balls on the ground, there are middies around it like a pack of wolves.

I think what made the navy defense so effective wasn't really anything to special specifically on defense. yeah, they were tenacious and battled hard at every second of the game and on every ground ball. What I noticed from watching and from hearing in post game reports was that they transitioned from defense better than any team this year. Their middies were just that, middies. They wern't swapping kids out left and right like other teams, which allowed them right off the transition to storm into the offensive zone and often time go right to the goal quite easily cause other teams were busy switching out offensive middies with defensive middies and what not. They played a more old school style system in that respect.

maryland's '03 team were all first-team all-americans, but i think that since no one is coming back, they have a problem next year. navy had the highest ranked defense up until the championship (they might still have the highest), so i would say they had the best.

Maryland was going great up until that JHU game, then it was all down hill from there. Navy's defense was great, it's a shame they lost to Syracuse though. Navy's defense played there hearts out, they tried for everyground ball. Yes, they did have the best transition defense of all the teams. They didnt make to many substitutions when they were on the field playing so they could set up thier offense and defense more effectively.

Because they did so well stopping Ryan Boyle's 2 inside rolls to carry Princeton to the final four.

its true, they did mess up with him, and it was passavia bothe times, however he is ryan boyle, and very good. if you look at or saw any of their games during the season most of the goals being scored against them were from midies. they held navy to 6, UVA to 2, and GU to 5. Id say thats pretty good
