Don't know if you saw this, but ESPN had this thing on inspirational sports stories. TWO were about lacrosse.

One- Somewhere in Japan, this former lax player went to teach at a local middle or high school. He was sick of everyone commiting suicide, so he gave them somehting they would care about: lacrosse.
In the last 5 years, not a single student has committed suicide. I think it said he lost 3 students in 5 weeks at one point. Crazy.

Two- Everyone knows about the ten Bears at Morgan State. THats what that one was about- Kyle Harrison's dad and their team at the all black college.

Didn't see a thread on this, so I thought I'd add it. Good exposure for the sport.

PEACE-

It was Alaska, not Japan. The kids were Inuit.

Inuit just refers to a member of people who inhabit the artic.. Often thought of as Eskimos. The arctic refers to Northern Canada, Greenland, Eastern Siberia, and Alaska.

Not so much "inuit" people, just some towns in icolated places the kids get really hooked on cyrstal meth and end up killing themselves. Some places the suicide rate is like 90%

Kylo Harris (ESPN spelt his name Kilo) was the Athletic Director at the High School in Kugluktuk. He's in Manitoba now running/coaching the interlake lacrosse (Lakeshore Assassin's) club.

Kylo and I are working to spread the game North of Winnipeg, trying to expand the game. We've put on clinics in Dauphin and Grand Rapids as well as many small towns around the Interlake.

Like these kids in this story, I picked up the game late, not knowing a whole lot about it how to play it. I have since fallen in love with the game and play as much as I can. I was lucky enough that the Team Manitoba U19 provincial team was short on players this year and I was able to practice and travel to Kitchner Ontario with them. It was a great experience.

It's all about being passionate and spreading the game.

Good thing you cleared that up. I was thinking to myself why a bunch of japanese kids would be committing suicide so often. The inuit part makes sense. That region of the world (far north) is always listed as tops in suicide rate - mostly attributed to the lack of sunlight in the winter supposedly.
