He does hae a mann cup. He should be recognized as a good goalie.

He is a good goalie. And Philly's defense will be deadly this year. Give em time boys. With their youth, time is on their side...

Colorado can't score on Roik......last season behind Anaheim's defense, he Roik held the Mammoth to a big fat six goals.

BTW - In case anyone hasn't figured it out yet, Colorado is not going to do well this year. At best, 3rd place in the West, possibly as low as 5th.

RS...I'm on it dude...lol

Colorado once again is rolling out a team concentrating on vets over youth. Govett loves to surround himself with names, rather than potential. This time though, they'll have to find some offense out of those attackers...

Yeah, wings definitely had the game in the second half, but it didn't help that the mammoth were man down for almost the entire last 3 quarters. It was like amateur night for the refs, they were making stupid calls for both teams, and not calling a lot of stuff for both teams too. It was so intense at the pepsi center though, holy cow, a lot better than in arizona.

We'll get a chance to see how deadly the Philly defense is. If I'm not mistaken, Roik is suspended for their next game. Roik and Hajek for the Wings and Stilley for the Mammoth got Obscene Language Game Misconduct penalties after the game ended for talking trash to each other. So I think they'll all be out.

P.S. I agree with shoebag on the refs. They were really making it tough on both teams with the way they were running the game.

The reffing was horrible, I'll give you that. I didn't see many calls for either side I agreed with. I saw a point in the game where two consecutive hits were logged, 1 per team, the first wasn't a penalty, the second was. How is that? Ameteur night is putting it nicely.

I heard that the players involved in the post game problems were getting a fine and were going to be asked to make nice. If they get suspended, this must be a new policy, seeing as how this has happened in the past in the NLL, and absolutely nothing was ever done to those players.

I don't know this Doyle guy at all. Is he a Colorado local? New?

Tom Sutton does a lot of Rock games. I've also seen him in Buffalo and Rochester, so I know him well. He's OK, but if you accused him of favouring the home team, I wouldn't argue too much.

Rick Lum did a tonne of playoff games the last two seasons. Sometimes he did a great job, sometimes he did a horrible job. I'm still not sure what I think of him overall.

Reffing will hopefully get better as the season goes on.

I was just assuming they would be suspended because that's what it says in the NLL Rulebook. They probably suspend if they have a habitual offender.

I've seen all three guys ref the Mammoth games before, but I'm sorry, I don't know their backgrounds. I think these guys have done a decent job in the past. There's one ref that's been consistently a problem for the Mammoth. I'm not sure of his name, but our nickname for him is "Frosty". Last year, he was obviously frosting (lightening) his hair to make himself look younger. At least for the partisan Mammoth crowd, he really seemed to have it in for us.

Roik and Stilley are consistent behavior problems. Hajek will get into fights, and has been ejected from games before, but shouldn't be viewed as a problem. I don't see the NLL suspending any of these players. As I said, if they do, this is a new view on the policy. Whether or not its in the rule book, is beside the point. There are some things in the rule book, that aren't consistently enforced. Nothing against the NLL, thats just how pro leagues are.

Roik and Stilley are consistent behavior problems.

I can definitely see Stilley being a behavior problem as far as the league is concerned, but when the "problem" is on your team, it's a whole different story. I think as a fan, you look past the behavior because you like to see a guy out there who's fired up and wants to kick some b**t. He can hurt the team sometimes by taking a penalty at the wrong time, but can definitely liven up the crowd and the team by his example, bad as it may be. I sit 4 rows behind the Mammoth penalty box and when Stilley's in there, you know how he got there and the crowd supports him. Now if I could only get him to use his anger on the drunk guys that sit in front of us, that would be great! But that's a different thread I need to start.

Believe me Marty, having watched Stilley for some time in Philly, I can say that his game has never changed. He's a great guy, but when he steps out on the field, he atomatically becomes a completely different person. He loves to incite situations. He fills his position perfectly, he draws penalties, and will trade himself for a teams better players. But talking about bad penalties, Stilley has taken his fair share. Trust me, I'm not down on Dave, but understand what he's out there for. He's not exactly the best defenseman on the floor (mind you he's not bad).

I agree with you totally, Hooligan. He's a lot like an enforcer in hockey (is that a lacrosse term, too?).

As far as defense goes, I also like watching Pat Coyle. I know he's pretty hated around the league, but I love watching his skills. He's not as fast as he once was, but he knows how to be as effective as possible when he's out there. My favorite thing about him is his outlet passes when he picks up a ground ball. He fires that ball straight as an arrow to a transition guy running down the field.

I try to tell my son to watch Coyle's passing and other techniques when he's out on the floor. My son usually plays crease attack in field so he doesn't have to pass as often as some guys, but I tell him that improving any of your skills is important no matter what position you play. I have him watch Coyle because my son isn't the fastest guy, but he's got size that makes up for it. I kind of see that in Coyle, as well.

Coyle is a hell of a player, despite whether he's liked or not (he's the only player to be perminently banned, and then to be allowed back in).

The Mammoth have a lot of talent, a lot of it is former Wings talent. You'll win your fair share of games. But be advised, the team still needs some youth. If they keep avoiding getting younger, and getting more vets, you'll see more and more of your guys in Gary Gait's position before too long.

Affectionately called a "frosted hair freak" by another NLL player......

Is that Bruce "Eminem" Crawford #5, by any chance?

He does have one positive attribute, and that's consistency.

However, he's a field-trained ref, and the way he runs games is offensive to my sensibilities!

Now we were being nice by not bringing his name into it. Way to go... :-p

I might have to ban you, btw, for uttering that curse...saying Bruce Crawford on this forum, and in any setting, is probably worse than any 4 letter word I can think of....lol

got to say bout ,coyle still got skills... not much speed. but its nice to see people notice that outlet pass!! Just lays it out there.. made steve toll famous in case anyone remembers!! after pat went so did that sweet pass and eventually toll went too!! Not necessarily for that reason but... col should get a speedy field? player with hands to take advantage of that play. Have watched him for years and he (pc)also has a "joe montana long bomb " pass thats sweet to see.Have seen roik and HE IS A MONSTER!! Can win big games (also has monster attitude !!)but thats why I watch lacrosse more than hockey lots of intensity!!Ref Lum HAS TO BE CENTER OF ATTENTION!! nuff said One final note HARDLY ANYTHING ON GEE NASH GOAL!!! That goal was so great. And it was close to not making it in. If Nash would've bounced it about six inches or a foot shorter, it would've gone over the crossbar instead of hitting the front of the net. And it was hilarious to see Roik running out of the Philly box as the ball slowly bounced past him. I'm sure no one expected it to actually go in.

I haven't figured it out, but I wonder how the average age changed with their new faces - probably not much, if at all.

I was pretty impressed with Dan Carey, who the Mammoth selected first in the entry draft. He was really in the plays and was looking to set up guys as you can tell from his three assists. If they could get more guys like him, that would be a step in the right direction.

Philly could have won by more but I think they are still getting used to each other...
If this game were played during the middle of the season Philly should have won by more...
Philly has a very good team this year and Colorado is still going to suffer this year...
